Coleman: Election Trial More Important Than Law & Order, Just Not As Exciting
Norm Coleman briefly spoke to reporters outside his election trial after it ended for the day, and he stressed the importance of the drawn-out proceedings we've seen -- with a handy pop-culture reference.
"What you're observing out there may not seem as exciting as what you see on Law & Order," said Coleman. "But the principles that we're fighting for, that I fully believe are being established today, are more important than anything you'll see on Law & Order."
Later on he said that the trial is "not as exciting as Law & Order, though I'd take [Coleman attorney] Joe Friedberg over Fred Thompson, at least in the courtroom."
Fred Thompson must be feeling pretty put down right now. First Norm endorsed Rudy Giuliani for the Republican nomination, and now this.

Eric, you should get hazardous duty pay or maybe combat pay for your heroic coverage of this drawn-out, brain-numbing saga.

C'mon Eric lives for this stuff. He's gonna be wistful and cranky when it's all over.

Someone should ask Coleman how his new job's going. Must be nice to have an employer whose happy for their new recruit to lollygag around in a courtroom all day.

ROFLMAO, to put it mildly. I never did get that episode--seemed like such a complete out-of-the-blue non sequitur. Surely there must have been a previous episode somewhere in which some reference was made to the character being gay, but if so I've missed it despite all the reruns I've watched. Or did they just throw it in there for the heck of it?

It's funny because Norm *wants* it to be like Law & Order--which is why he's got a criminal defense lawyer fronting for him.
There are some bits of interesting history, though:
Friedberg represented Coleman’s father, now deceased, on a disorderly conduct charge. Friedberg also represents money-man Nasser Kazeminy, Landslide Norm's alleged benefactor who, along with Landslide Coleman, is reportedly a target of a federal investigation.

Presumably, at least Norm's father got off;)

It's funny because Norm seems to be adopting the same style from a certain impeached Governor.

What exactly does Coleman think he's fighting for - for a washed-up, carpetbagging, corrupt Senator to continue in office, in spite of receiving fewer votes? On the hubris meter, Coleman is reaching for a new low. And every day that he drags this thing out, polls will show that more Minnesota voters want an end to it.

He's fighting to make the "stolen election" argument, not just for this seat in six years but for all Republicans across the country in two years.
Of course sane people will look at the outcome, say it was litigated to death and heard by every level of court imaginable and say that if there was any monkey business it would have come out at some point and been settled. The republicans are counting on people thinking that the longer it goes on the more "irregularities" there must have been.
