Coleman: I Need "Good Americans" To Contribute

Appearing last night on Fox News for an interview with Sean Hannity, Norm Coleman made an interesting appeal for money: That he can win this race if "good Americans" contribute to help him pay his legal bills, versus the lefties out there who support Al Franken:

"Sean, this recount is an expensive proposition. Al Franken's got George Soros, he's got MoveOn.org. I need just good Americans to contribute," said Coleman (emphasis his own). "ColemanForSenate.com, www.ColemanForSenate.com. It's an expensive proposition. Don't let George Soros, MoveOn.com or the far left buy this race."

A few Republicans got in trouble in the 2008 elections for using phrases like "real Americans" to describe their supporters. But now that the election is over, and this is purely about courting the base and bringing in the necessary cash, Republicans can really say whatever they want.

I am a "good" American.
Not $.01 for this clown!

user-pic

Using all the buzz words "Soros", "MoveOn" and "Good Americans" didn't he. I assume he must have called Franekn an "evil librul terrorist and tax luver" in there some where as well.

user-pic

and not just any buzzwords, either. The whole demonization of Soros is based largely in an appeal to anti-Semitism, which has ever taken the guise of various "enemy within" and "stab in the back" motifs (one of the many registers that the GOP's "Real Americans vs. un-Americans" meme tickles).

So basically, you have the Jewish head of Republican Jewish outreach making a calculated appeal to anti-Semitism to fund his doomed effort to keep the Senate seat he lost. Truly twisted. He'd walk over his own grandmother to keep the contributions coming.

user-pic

it's not a recount! the recount happened! you lost, dude! you're asking for money to fund a lawsuit. this is a different thing. jeebus.

user-pic

Let's see what can I call Coleman that is fair: liar, whiner, loser, failure, carpetbagger, thief, punk, Republican, CONservative, idiot, fool, annoying accented dolt, anti-comedian, and 'You're Fired!'. oh there are many other words that would be descriptive but I can't write them here.

user-pic

I got some confederate dollars I can send him.

user-pic

Those might be rare enough to be worth something these days. How about some Iceland krona?

user-pic

Old Italian lira would be better. It use to take a couple thousand to equal a dollar.

user-pic

They also looked very much like play money.

user-pic

Speaking of the Lira, FIAT yesterday asked the Italian government for bailout cash. I wonder what that does to their partnership with Chrysler.

user-pic

"...FIAT yesterday asked the Italian government for bailout cash..."

Would that be fiat currency?

user-pic

Or Zimbabwean dollars?

user-pic

I wouldn't even send him play money: he'd likely find a way to bribe someone with it.

user-pic

I need just good Americans to contribute

And those would be real Americans, no doubt, the same ones that only Sarah Palin can see. Be careful where you place your modifier, Bub.

user-pic

He obviously doesn't want my money.

And he obviously isn't going to get it.

user-pic

I guess when on Day 1 the court throws out your "evidence" because it's been doctored, and on Day 2 your sympathetic witnesses admit to having committed fraud in casting their ballots, ya gotta do something! Fox "News" is as good a place as any to try something.

user-pic

Such scum. I really hope we don't let our foot off the gas in 2010 and we can crush this party for the next 40 years.

user-pic

I've got some spare Belize dollars. Do you think he would want those?

user-pic

What has Belize done to deserve the suggested association?

user-pic

I got yer contribution...right here.

user-pic

Watch out for your reputation: should you raise a finger to him he may take it as a donation.

user-pic

I'd contribute, but I'm saving my money so that I can get my teeth to look just like Norm's.

user-pic

Don't let the left buy this election. Give us money so *we* can!

user-pic

So Norm where's your rich Republican friends now that your in trouble. O yeah that's right your disposable now aren’t you. You asked for it when you made the "mid life" change years ago when you became a Republican. Talk to Lieberman maybe he can help you. Me I think you should just open the window and jump to freedom.

user-pic

Norman, I am a real American and the best thing you can do for my country, and my state, is exile yourself to the Third World. Perhaps you can ingratiate yourself with a nice despot, you've done it before.

user-pic

THIS IS GOOD...(blah, blahh, blah)

I have a nice new flag waving in front of my garage; I have not had one in my entire life!!! I am buying a bigger one today (one not made in China, too!). I am a good American. Norm, FU.

user-pic

Hey Normie... the people voted to elect a GOOD AMERICAN, Al Franken, to replace you. Shame on you for attempting to drive this divisive wedge between Americans of differing points of view.

user-pic

Beautiful, sister!!! And the post below about if Norm were a real man, made me pump my fist in the air!!
Ain't it fun to be on the winning team, finally??

What happened to Sean Insanity claiming Franken would "steal the elction" by way of the court system? Who's stealing now, Mr. Hannity?
"Fair and..' oh, nevermind.

user-pic

I sent the good former senator a little note via his website, stating that if he were a real man, he'd concede the race.

user-pic

I'd contribute, but I'm saving my money for SaraPAC, cuz the Republican party needs a read American snowbilly to lead it.

user-pic

Well, You have to admit, Coleman really knows how to pick suits. I guess GOOD Americans wear GOOD Suits.

I wonder where he buys them.

user-pic

ha ha!

user-pic

I'm thinking of organizing a group called, "Convicted Felons for Norm" and raising contributions for his legal fees. We'd kick it off with a press conference in St. Paul, with actors playing key roles. Anyone else interested?

user-pic

I can have a web-ready Flash file for you later that day...

user-pic

Let's roll!

user-pic

When and where?

user-pic

What's the main city jail in St. Paul? Alternatively, is there a federal penitentiary there?

user-pic

Coleman is out of luck. Big Republican donors expect a little something-something for their contributions, and Coleman won't be able to fix so much as a parking ticket.

So considering that funding for his challenges will be coming out of his pocket, if I were Coleman, I'd cut my losses now.

Since I'm not, I'll send a few bucks to Franken.

user-pic

I'd have to agree with you on that one. He's not going to get anywhere with this lawsuit, just look at what happened in the 200 election when Gore vs. Bush happened. Did Gore get into office? no, not at all. He's going to go broke with this lawsuit and he deserves it.

user-pic

"Good Americans"? "Real Americans"? What is it with Coleman, Palin and other GOP losers, who call out to their dwindling base to throw them a life line. Real good Americans love justice, fair elections, the Constitution, real leadership on behalf of Americans not corporations, integrity, and real patriotism. He is not getting any money from this good American.

user-pic

Let's see: Mr. Soros contributed $2,000 for Al Franken's campaign . . . and over $6,000 for a Senate candidate in Nebraska named Kleeb. Out of tens of millions of dollars raised by the Franken Campaign, what was so magical about the miniscule fraction donated by Soros? For that matter, Norm's own campaign raised as much or more than Franken's campaign. Raised it and spent it. For every George Soros on the liberal side, there are a dozen billionaires on the right-wing side.

Coleman made a choice in the 1990's to quit the Democrats and hitch his ambitions to the Republicans. If his conversion had been a true ideological change of heart, I could respect it. But Norm's ambition has always been the driving force . . . and the sincerity of his party switching has always been doubtful to me, although he had Rove convinced! Now Norm is hanging on by the thinnest thread, hoping that somehow his desperate lust for political office will magically overcome his apparent defeat in the election--hoping for a "Triumph of the Will."

If Al Franken ever gets to the Senate, Al will definitely have earned the love and gratitude of GOOD Americans across the entire country---for ridding the Congress of Norm the Chameleon, if for nothing else!

user-pic

Good point. There's scant reason to think anyone whose initial run for office was on the GOP ticket in the last decade picked his party affiliation in any manner besides taking his finger out of his @ss and sticking it in the wind.

user-pic

OK, anyone want to set the over/under for when Al raises his hand and get sworn in to the US Senate?
I'll start...February 9th

user-pic

I'm in. I'll say Feb. 19.

user-pic

Yeah, that's a whopper.

The whole "real Americans" thing comes into play with Hannity's show more than with the other meathead outlets. When you listen to Hannity's radio show, and listeners call in, they'll often start their phone call by saying "Sean, you're a great American". It's a little catch phrase of nothingness that they like.

I love Josh's phrase on the main page right now -- "dumb jocks". That is exactly right. It's like their own little clique that stands by the water fountain in their letterman's jackets, saying "nerd!" as you walk by. Only in this case it's "bad American!"

user-pic

Norm, how about asking those "good Americans" in the top 1%, you know, the ones to whom you gave BIG tax cuts?

user-pic

The two most prominent recent cases (Minnesota Senate race and 2004 Washington State gubernatorial race) in which statewide elections results have ended up being challenged in court have both followed the same pattern.

1) The Republican candidate has a very narrow lead after the initial vote count and specifically calls for their opponent to concede immediately despite state laws REQUIRING a recount.

2) State laws specifically make a manual recount the ultimate determinant of the outcome of the race.

3) The Democrat takes the lead on the manual recount.

4) The Republican refuses to concede after manual recount and takes the race to the court system.

5) Republicans continue to make baseless allegations of stolen elections while also characterizing the Democrats as sore losers who would rather win in the courts than at the ballot box.

6) Press continues to report both sets of Republican statements without pointing out the inherent contradictions.

user-pic

What Norm really means is that all those "faceless" Americans are going to take back their country if Big Oil doesn't pony up the cash real soon, so Coleman can steal an election.

I guess Norm needs a lawyer that is better at “doctoring” the ballot evidence but that has got cost big bucks $$$.

And we all know that Repug contributions are considered "entitlements" by their constituency, so that if Norm can't get it from big corporations, than he must not be a good enough corporate kiss-ass to be even be consider for a seat in congress in today's GOP. Any member of today's GOP has to be 100% corporate whore to be viable, because what about maverick McCains's ANWR vote did the McCain campaign have to learn in his moneyless runup for Prezinut? And we all know that "drill, baby drill, and "shop till you drop" Palin never had any problems at all getting money from big oil and corporate interest -- now than did she?

user-pic

Coleman and Hannity are Commies.

user-pic

Send him a check for a dollar or 50 cents. the transaction costs for coleman [if I am correct] exceed the value of the transaction. Also in the notation blank, put "witness fees"

user-pic

Don't waste a whole dollar on Norm's recount charity scam. If his crack web team ever gets the links to his website fixed, donate ONE CENT to this maggot's cause. If his contributions page accepts $1, it will accept $.01 and definitely will cost him more money than that to collect it. We need to start draining this weasel's slush fund now, one penny donation at a time.

user-pic

I don't know about anyone else, but every time I see or hear Coleman, I want to go take a shower. This guy is very sleazy. He sort of has that child molestor look about him, doesn't he? Would you ever leave your underaged children alone with him? That's what I thought.

user-pic

According to blog at http://minnesotaindependent.com/24761/disenfranchised-voters-crash-colemans-site-unlikely-says-blogger

Coleman's donor database is wide open for anyone who can hack to go at it. Nice way to treat "good Americans", eh?

user-pic

As has been pointed out (by Digby?), Coleman knows this is a lost cause and has already moved on to a new gig. The Republicans are staging this Kabuki simply to get a head start on demonizing Franken, trying to plant the meme that he "stole the election."

After all, they don't have Hillary to kick around in the Senate any more.

user-pic

As much as Mr. Coleman, and his opinion, are concerned, I am determined to remain a bad American.
