Gore to Testify Before Kerry's Foreign Relations Committee
While we're on the subject of climate change today ... Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) just announced that Al Gore will be testifying before his panel next Wednesday on the need for carbon emissions regulation.
"America must act decisively in order for the nations of the world to reach agreement on a climate change treaty at the December 2009 meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Denmark. The timeline is short for us to respond to the threat of climate change, and this hearing will examine what America must do to lead the world in crafting a truly global solution," Kerry said in a statement on the hearing.

With all due respect to former VP Gore, I think thepanel would be much better served to have actual climate scientists testify on the need for carbon emissions regulations. Perhaps they will in addition to Gore. But to headline Gore is the wrong direction since it just further antagonizes the denialists. The science is quite strong and should be delivered by a climate science researcher, first-hand, as opposed to a well-meaning ex-VP who can only relay what others have told him. Gore is an excellent communicator on the subject but he should not be the focus.

Gotta agree with you here. Gore's a messenger to the people, but not to Congress. I'm sure that the Union of Concerned Scientists could provide a good representative, or just some ordinary published climate scientist would do nicely.
