WH Counsel's Office: Hillary, Reform, Chicago heavy
Amidst the confirmation of Eric Holder and the president's first dis of the Sidwell Friends School--he mocked the institution, not by name, but for cancelling school today in contrast to hardy Chicago where the coating of ice that closed D.C. schools, public and private, would be all but ignored--there was some interesting news.
The counsel's office had some interesting appointments. One is the highly regarded Karen Dunn, a longtime Hillary aide and Yale Law grad, whose presence further solidifies the number of former Clinton aides in the Obama White House. (Like her friend, Howard Wolfson, she's a Nita Lowey alumnus, too.) Susan Sher, the former corporation counsel for the City of Chicago also joins the counsel's office strengthening the Chicago contingent. Maybe most interesting is Norm Eisen, one of the founders of CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) and a special counsel for ethics issues helps carry through Obama's commitment to ethics reform. Friends of General Counsel Greg Craig will note that he's brought his assistant, Catherine Whitney, over from Williams & Connolly, too. Neal Wolin, a veteran of the CIA and the National Security Council, will be there, too suggesting a return to a traditional legal view of those agencies. This will be an interesting office to watch.
The counsel's office is important in and of itself but it's also a springboard to many other jobs. Lisa Brown, who holds the important position of Staff Secretary in the White House--the person in charge of paper flow--was Al Gore' s counsel. From John Dean to Fred Fielding to Lloyd Cutler, it's always at the center of things. Putting a Hillary alum and a special ethics counselor in there makes the mix that much more intriguing.

I agree, it is a joke that east coast schools, and DC in particular, shut down at the first sight of white stuff falling from the sky. There is no excuse for it, its ridiculous.
It is especially ridiculous when a little bit of snow grinds the federal government to a halt.

The problem in DC is the lack of snowplows. It's always a problem, has been for decades, when it snows in DC. Very difficult for people to get around. Maybe easier now with the Metro, but still a big problem. Yes, it's funny. But there it is!

There are plenty of snow plows in rich MOntgomery county but they are much quicker to close up than DC.f Unlike Chicago, however, the DC metro area has plenty of hills.

I was talking DC specifically. But your point is a good one.

DC public schools were not canceled today. All the surrounding counties were. Maybe its that rich folks--who send their kids to private schools--are wimps. What do you think Mr. cooper? Obama engages in class warfare as well as regional bigotry.

What next an article about how Obama's tall, lean figure and full head of hair shows disrespect for short, fat, bald guys?
I am happy to know that this is only his *first* dis of Sidwell Friends. I am sure there will be lot's more. I mean can you imagine the first time they put BBQ ribs on the school menu. Plus there Baseball team sucks.
The description of the Obama's choices in the counsels office suggests that you only plan to report selective facts that bolster some preordained set of dramatic narratives. So every person with experience in the Clinton administration SOLIDIFIES the number of Clintonistas in the Obama white house. How many will it take until they can stage a coup? I swear this is the most conventional and brain dead journalistic theme out there.
Hey and one person who served in Chicago government STRENGTHENS the Chicago contingent. How long before the ghost of Richard Daley starts getting permanent access to the Oval Office? Heavens to mercatroid!
Why not mention that 9 of the 14 associate counsels have been clerks to Supreme Court Justices (4 Breyer, 4 Stevens, 1 Ginsburg)? Those folks are practically taking over the place.
How about how the Harvard and Yale law school alum are tighten their grip within the administrations practitioners of law. I hear several of these folks used to actually work for really elite law firms, too.
All these really competent people is starting to look suspicious.
Or how about how the lesbian, black, hispanic, jewish, muslim and hot chick factions all strengthened their toehold within the White House by at least one? There's even a dude who was a Navy Seal in there.

I think it's worth noting that I am precisely two degrees from Kevin Bacon, in the grand scheme of things.
