Alleged Pentagon Burrower Played Key Role in Pro-War Pundits Program

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) is trying to get some answers on two potential cases of Bush political appointees "burrowing" into long-term positions at the Pentagon's detainee affairs office.

One of the two has right of return to a civil service position, according to the AP, but let's look for a moment at the second official -- Tara Jones, a special assistant in the detainee office.

Jones was a central figure in the "Pentagon Pundits" scandal, helping to coordinate the military's courtship of former officers who used TV appearances to promote George W. Bush's Iraq war policies. When the New York Times first broke the pundits story, using internal e-mails obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, it was Jones' account that the newspaper had asked to view. (The full complement of her publicly released emails is obtainable here.)

One would think Jones' past might make it easier for Feinstein to ensure she doesn't burrow into the system -- but that likely depends on what explanation the senator gets from the Pentagon.

Given DiFinks past and present predilections for the DoD and increased defense spending, Tara Jones using retired Field and Flag officers for pro war propaganda is a non event.

I don't have anything substantive to add to this but I would like to ask why Colonel Jack Jacobs is still employed by MSNBC? He's been demonstrably wrong more than once, so why do they keep him on as an "analyst"?

M-I-C. Companies who own the television networks are also massive war/defense profiteers.

Wrong as are most bushies. Using retired Generals and Admirals working for war profitering companies is NOT a nonevent!

The Pentagon Pundit scandal was the most important story to come out last year. It incorporates everything that has gone wrong with the American experiment. We have gone from an ideal of agrarian democracy to a postmodern nightmare of military industrial kleptocracy. I apologize for the hyperbole, but it angers me that this story has gotten buried. It rips away the curtain and exposes the little man with levers but since corporate media is knee deep in complicity it is relegated to the margin.
