Democratic Governor Considers Turning Down Stimulus Cash!

We now have another governor who says he's thinking about turning down the small portion of the stimulus package for unemployment benefits -- and he's a Democrat???

"We are evaluating this piece of money, whether it makes sense for us to take it," Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. "We may well be one of the states that say we can't take on that portion of it."

Well, if this guy was ever on the HHS short-list before...

Keep it up! By 2010 the unemployment rate will be over 10% and these fools are going to get what they deserve.

He's my governor and I'm calling constituent services first thing in the morning.

Today he said he thinks he's on the short list for HHS secretary. Not anymore!

Ummmmmm,wow....

There apparently aren't any Democrats in public office in Tennessee, anymore. Just Republicans who don't know their ABC's well enough to distinguish between an "R" and a "D."

Dumbass (and chickenhearted) southern Democrats have always been the weakest link in the chain. I hope he gets drawn and quartered for such a gallingly stupid and craven move.

Governor Bredesen is not actually from Tennessee. He is from the Northeast and made his money as a healthcare executive. His objections to the funds are based on his reluctance to change state law permanently, incurring higher tax liabilities long after Obama's stimulus money is spent.

So don't change state law permanently. Just put a sunset provision on any change.

From TN. This is his last term, so he won't have to deal with the mess when it is all said and done. I think he shld rethink his Washington aspirations.

Democrat in name only. What a massive tool this guy is. And no, you're not getting HHS, dude! Screw this guy.

NH Governor John Lynch is considering something similar.

Lynch, a Democrat, said yesterday he understood the concern but will be cautious.

"Sure, I'm prepared to either turn down some of that money or not apply for certain grants," he said. "There are probably a couple of hundred different types of grants that could be applied for, and I would be interested in applying for those grants that really are an investment in our future in New Hampshire."

But NH hasn't been hit as hard as other parts of the country so they can afford to be more selective if they choose to do so.
