Gregg To Vote Against Stimulus Package

It's official: Judd Gregg will vote against the stimulus package.

On the one hand this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. His refusal to vote for it even while he was the Commerce Secretary-designate -- his recusal was effectively the same as a No vote on all cloture motions -- indicated he was never really on board.

But having him now officially against the bill, the day after he dropped his own nomination to join the cabinet, should tell us where things will be going forward. A week ago he was a bipartisan member of the Obama Administration -- and now he's a solid opponent.

Judd Gregg: Trojan Horse.

But who is the victim?

IMO the decisions the Republicans in the house and senate made to vote against the stimulus is all about the 2010 elections. They are taking the gamble that the economy will still suck 16 months from now and they will get to say, "i told you so."

I am no economist, but i do believe that this is the bottom and by the end of the year or early next year things will start to turn around. If i am right it will be the Dems telling the voters "i told you so" and there will be another blue wave in 2010.

Wish I could agree with you. Unfortunately, we're still facing a couple more financial body-blows - in the form of another wave of mortgage crunches looming, and the multi-trillion dollar credit card debt mess looking to implode.

The repercussions from these events will serve to only deepen our financial misery, I'm afraid. I believe we're looking at another year+ of fiscal stupor before we begin to creep our way out of the morass.

Too bad we can't count on "The Party of NO!" as being on our side; Barack could really use their help - even if that consisted solely of ceasing rowing their side of the boat in the opposite direction from where we're trying to go.

With the future of their party riding on the failure of Obama (and the country), the Repugs aren't just expecting failure, they will be working night and day to bring about that failure.

and John McCain has the unmitigated gall to complain that Obama needs to reach out more to Republicans.

Now that McCain is a Republican spokesman, he seems to have lost his maverickyness--or is it just me?

Yet the lamestream media says Gregg is the victim.

Barack extended an open hand; Repugs responded with clinched fists.

Not to mention that Gregg agreed to be in the Cabinet after Obama's plan for the stimulus framework was released and the $825B price tag was known.

This is one thing that Gregg already foreshadowed when he was asked (last week?--it was reported here) about the stimulus and he sidestepped the question. Even though he was trying to be in the Obama administration, he would not say that he was for the stimulus even then. I'd bet he was already having second thoughts about Commerce even then.

With this episode Gregg has confirmed that he is just as flighty and uncertain as McCain was last year when McCain suspended his campaign, as if that sort of 'mavericky' move would've done anything to help people. just poor judgment and unsureness. why did he bother to say 'yes' to Obama when he clearly meant 'no' (as in his vote). what an idiot. and he looks old.
