How It's Playing Back Home
Two smart piece this morning about how the stimulus package is playing back home in Congressional districts. The first from Erin McPike of Congress Daily notes that Democrats supporting the measure seem to be getting a good reaction. The second, by the Los Angeles Times's James Oliphant, notes that in Rep. Connie Mack's district, the Republican is facing questions about his opposition.

No lie. Josh's post on the "Stupid" should be read by Obama and every member of the Democratic Party.
Why more Democrats aren't front and center making the very reasonable arguments in favor of this bill is baffling. And the fact that Democrats like Boxer and Schumer are trying to load it up with even more tax cuts to businesses boggles my mind.
Although Bob Somerby and some other purity advocates may disagree, I'm not against a little demagoguery. Why not just say "You know how a trillion dollars is? It's an Iraq War. and what would you rather have: a trillion dollars spent on putting Americans back to work through investment in their bridges, roads, schools and healthcare, or a trillion dollars spent on a war that was based on lies and has done nothing to make us safer?"
"And where were these Republicans when the Bush administration was shoveling money to Halliburton and Blackwater? Where were their concerns about wasteful goverment spending and the deficit then?"

5 Oval Office interviews ... Obama couldn't have set the media stage better if he was the networks' news producer

Yep. Everybody has to stop whining and let him work his magic. It's as if nobody has been paying attention to what he has done over the last two years. He's only been in office for two freaking weeks and everyone is expecting all the republicans to sing kumbaya, the deficit is gone, the economy is booming and the housing crisis is miraculously fixed. Jeez. Talk about unreasonable expectations. Let him work the obama magic and let's see where it takes us.

Off topic. Breaking News: Daschle withdrew his nomination. The drama is over. Awesome. Now maybe obama will appoint dean. He would be better for the position in any event.

I disagree. Daschle was perfect for the job. Dean may know about health care, but the skills required here are different. Daschle was there for his knowledge of the intricacies in getting legislation through congress.
