New CBS News Communications Exec Called Obama "Incredibly Dangerous" For Israel

Five years after that whole mess over forged documents about then-President Bush's service in the National Guard, CBS News sure seems to be trying awfully hard to convince the GOP that they aren't a Dem outlet.

Here's a very interesting piece of information about Jeff Ballabon, the Republican lobbyist and political strategist who was just hired by CBS News to be the new CBS News senior vice president for communications. During the 2008 election, Ballabon wasn't shy about courting Jewish voters and telling them just how dangerous Barack Obama is when it comes to Israel.

Here's what he told the Orthodox paper Hamodia:

Obama is incredibly dangerous. Not because he is evil, but because he is naive. Agreeing to meet -- without any pre-conditions -- with the terror-supporting president of Iran shows his naivete. And even his Jewish advisors want to pressure Israel to divide Yerushalayim and to make sacrifices of defensive positions against the will of the military and security experts in Israel. They want desperately to appease the UN, the Europeans, the Arabs.

On the bright side, Ballabon is denying an allegation that he called Democrats evil. Greg Sargent reports:

"I never said Democrats are evil," he told me by phone just now. "My mother is a Democrat."

Asked whether he would have any impact at all on editorial content at CBS, Ballabon said: "No."

But Ballabon wouldn't comment further, and he declined to say whether he still thinks Obama is "incredibly dangerous."

The VRWC begins to take shape! Let the which hunts begin.

Obviously, looking at the career arcs of Glenn Beck and Keith Olbermann, you can only conclude that the solution to CBS's flagging ratings is more right-wing nutjobs. Obviously, having three networks duking it out for the viewership of 28% of the country is the best conceivable business model.

Same with cnn and abc. All fox entertainment wantabees. Break up the media conglomerates and get competition again. No competition and all you have is right wing propoganda outlets and cheerleaders for the republican party. Pathetic.

I am still trying to figure out how meeting enemy leaders without preconditions is so dangerous. The last time I checked, diplomacy wasn't about meeting a pre-existing set of demands, it was about negotiation. The best negotiation is conducted on a clean table, and the conditions can be set from that beginning.

I look forward to someone on the intertubes convincing me otherwise.

The question is:

"How would the United States be harmed if the State Department met with Iran without preconditions?"

I look forward to the answer.

Republicans and the MIC need their boogiemen.

Um, because it "legitimizes" them or something. No, I don't understand that argument, either.

Seems to me that by refusing to talk to them it gives the rogue states more legitimacy. They are so tough and smart that the us refuses to even talk to them. The us is scared of them and what they can do so the us won't talk to them. It really is a foolish position to take and hurts negotiations when you actually do wind up acting like an adult and talking to them.

Like churchill said, "to jaw-jaw is always better than to war-war." You would think that the wingers would recognize that.

Uh, these documents have not been proven to be "forgeries" to date. It's all political spin and bullsh*t. Where are the king's guard records anyway? Hmm, I wonder.

How about rather's side of the story:

It's the right wing media at work again. Rather wasn't a team player to bolster the king's image and the republican party's image, so he was vilified and cut loose. Sad state of affairs concerning the right-wing media.

Why should I be surprised that the Israel Lobby is still in business?

"Incredibly Dangerous" For Israel

WTF.

Israel is dangerous for Israel.

Gimme a call when statehood is mentioned.

Perhaps if we dispose of the idea that the goal of the broadcast nets and cable news outlets are ratings, and accept that their true goal is to protect the interests and further the agenda of corporate America, things make a bit more sense.

These words from before the 2008 election sound pretty familiar.

I don't know what this guy Ballabon's tune is today, but IMO using something from the 2008 election rhetoric about Obama's foreign policy and the statements from that time from those in opposition is kinda stale.

"LIBERAL MEDIA"??

WHAT LIBERAL MEDIA??

What with this anti-American-people exec on CBS and Rupert Murdoch at FOX, I guess I'll have to give up watching sports, particularly the NFL. As they say in the swamp, scum rises to the top.

I worked closely with Jeff Ballabon in the 1990s, when he worked for Senator Danforth. He does not "hate" Democrats. He was probably the most responsible Republican I have ever worked with, with a basic appreciation that you have to work together on the things you agree on (in this case, expanding after-school programs), and agree to disagree on others.

I disagree with his statement about Obama's position on Iran, but what he said was not different from what others said at the time, including now-Secretary Clinton and almost all Republicans.

There's no reason this appointment should be a point of controversy. But maybe that's easy for me to say, since I can't remember the last time I watched CBS News or looked at its website.
