Bachmann Spokesperson: She Just Wants To Keep The Dollar Here
Michele Bachmann's office is now clarifying her proposed legislation to require that the dollar remain the currency of this country, rather than switching to some kind of global money.
This comes after Bachmann questioned Tim Geithner over China's proposal to adopt a global currency -- more accurately, an exchange unit made up of a basket of individual countries' currencies -- rather than relying on the dollar as a reserve currency. You might recall that Bachmann interpreted this to mean the United states could abandon the dollar.
So is Bachmann trying to legislate against other countries and the global economy adopting different exchange mechanisms or reserve currencies? The answer is no. "She's talking about the United States," Bachmann spokesperson Debbee Keller told Greg Sargent. "This legislation would ensure that the U.S. dollar remain the currency of the United States."
Of course, nobody was even remotely pitching the idea of replacing the U.S. dollar here in the United States.

Wow! The depth of her ignorance is stunning.
I hope the dolts in MN who elected her are keeping tabs on her.

Unfortunately, it appears that the "ignorant one" is held in some esteem in her district. My Minnesota friends in sane parts of the state are just plain embarrassed.
Reading her blog, there are those who are cheering her on, without any indication that they consider her stupidity to be, well, stupidity. One or two brave souls try to wade in with facts, but to no avail...

I guess its good that they've got them confined to one Congressional district rather than just letting the poor addled souls wander the countryside at random like they do here.

Confined?
perhaps a better word be "quarantined"?

Actually, with the coming census, Minnesota may lose a congressional district going from the current 7 to 6. Now if I were to draw up the new districts...

Isn't she from a rather affluent district, which I would ordinarily associate with better informed and educated voters?

There is no need to make embarassing remarks about Michelle Bachmann. She is perfectly capable of doing that for herself!

Okay everyone, Name the Global One-World UN Conspiracy Currency Unit Competition.
I propose "Quatloo."
Hurry and enter. The black helicopters that will be delivering the bundles of new currency are warming on the pad.

I don't know what it will be called, but considering that it is an Illimunati/New World Order plot, it will probably have weird Masonic symbols on it and stuff.

Totally agree! Thank God there's nothing like that in our currency!

I'll confess, there seem to be some aspects of conservative logic that are so subtle that they seem almost...stupid.

Ah, the old "keeps the tigers away" method! She'll know doubt be crowing to wingnut audiences for years about her victory in keeping the dollar as the US currency.

Hey...it might be worth listening to Representative Bachmann. I mean, she's the brilliant mind who wondered what our founders would think about taxation WITH representation. At first I thought that they'd be quite OK with that because, well, representation was kind of what they were fighting for during the War of Independence...they weren't fighting against taxation. And then they went and gave Congress the power to lay and collect taxes in the Constitution. But then I realized that the founders were likely speaking in a super secret code that only a select few can understand, like Bachmann. So I guess that's what's going on here - while the discussion was about an "exchange unit made up of a basket of individual countries' currencies", what they were really saying in secret code was that they want to replace the dollar with a global currency so that instead of buying things at stores here in the US with a Washington or a Jackson or a Grant or a Franklin, we'd be using the new Mao Che Obama bill.

Michele Bachmann's paranoid delusions are sometimes frightening, sometimes comical, but always real. I typically find myself alternating between disgust and pity when I take pause to consider her outlandish, ignorant behavior.

I'm leaning toward the pity side at this point. Even considered writing her and telling her to double check the facts before she embarrasses herself any further.

It's actually comforting to know that Ms. Batshit Crazy is occupied with something so inane, useless and irrelevant. It keeps her out from underfoot of those who are working on that *other* stuff, you know, the economy ... Iraq ... health care ... the environment ... little things like that.

But I still think China's proposal is foolish and will not take off.
This "derivative" currency would still be essentially a fund of several currencies. I'm not sure why we need this. The prices of oil can be set in multiple currencies in real time. Ever hear of computers?
This sounds like China trying to impose a solution that seems to help China with China's particular problems.

Actually no one has posted or read what the head of the central chinese bank was saying in detail. What Guithner understood him to mean was keep the current infrastructure but increase SDR'S. This is confusing because SDR'S have not been that much of a factor in the monetary market since the collapse of the Gold standard. In my opinion he is saying the SDR'S should be a bigger factor in the monetary market. That would be good for countries in my opinion that devalue their currencies on purpose to gain an unfair advantage in exports. One of the biggest culprits of that is China so I am confused. Someone that understands this stuff please explain. As for Bachman she is an idiot, congress can not legislate a world market, or a reserve currency.

In other news, Michelle Bachman is also fighting to keep the American Flag and Apple pie.
fwiw, her district is exurban fundie-land. Lotsa dead fetuses on billboards there, if you get my drift.

Thank goodness she has handlers that can step in after another of her spewing spells and explain this Bachmann gibberish in plain English to the rest of us.
At first I thought it was me. I am a pretty good listener, and I paid attention even. Still could not make head nor tails of her pronouncements.

She's just mad that they may do this before she can submit her proposal that we start using leaves as money, making us all fabulously wealthy. I so wish Obama would direct some of the stimulus funding for the "Ark B" project. Travel would do Bachmann a world of good.
