Dems Raising Money From Limbaugh's Joke About Ted Kennedy

The Senate Democrats are now raising money off of Rush Limbaugh and his latest comments about Ted Kennedy's work on the health-care bill.

In a fundraising e-mail from the DSCC, the Dems play up Rush's public role in the Republican Party in order to show how important it is to get to 60 Democratic seats:

Rush Limbaugh has no shame. That's clear after his latest outrageous and inappropriate remarks about Sen. Ted Kennedy's health.

Limbaugh keeps crossing the line because the best way to fire up the extremist base is to undermine and obstruct President Obama's agenda. And because he leads the rank-and-file, Limbaugh has 41 Republican senators willing to filibuster anything he wants.

Thousands joined our action against Rush last week - thank you for standing with us. But there's one more way to make him irrelevant. Win that 60th seat and Rush can rant all he wants and it won't do any good.

Sixty seats requires recruiting the best candidates early and organizing the best grassroots networks now. Rush is already plotting for 2010. We can't fall behind.

Full e-mail after the jump.

Dear Friend,

Click here to make a contribution of $5 or more to the DSCC. Electing a filibuster-proof majority is the best way to fight back against Rush Limbaugh.

With the markets tumbling, foreclosures threatening, and health care costs skyrocketing, this country simply cannot afford any more of Rush Limbaugh's scorched-earth politics. We need solutions, not stunts.

Senate Democrats are doing everything in their power to support President Obama's bold agenda for change. If the Republicans won't help, then it's up to us to replace them with more Democrats who will.

That's why the DSCC is gunning for 60 seats in 2010, and that's why Rush Limbaugh and his cronies will stand in our way every step of the way. We need your help to fight back.

Click here to make a contribution of $5 or more to the DSCC. Electing a filibuster-proof majority is the best way to fight back against Rush Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh has an outsized influence over the actions Senate Republicans take. As long as we don't have 60 seats, they have the power to obstruct everything we try to do.

Limbaugh's outrageous statements have shown that he's diametrically opposed to everything President Obama and the Democratic Party stand for. It's up to us to cast him aside.

Sincerely,

J.B. Poersch

What was the joke?

user-pic

Yes, that would seem germane...hello?

user-pic

The link to the joke?.....

We're tuned in, sure, but we're not that good.

user-pic

The joke was Rush suggesting President Obama's healthcare bill will end up being named "the Ted Kennedy Memorial Health-Care Bill."

user-pic

That wasn't a joke. Rush wasn't joking. He was wishful thinking. Calling that horrible comment a joke gives him an out-- "Liberals can't take a joke." It wasn't a joke. He was serious. He hopes for Senator Kennedy's demise the way he hopes President Obama fails. He's not funny. He's not joking.

I agree; don't give him any room to play the "I'm just an entertainer" card. He's made it known publicly, by castrating at least two politicians, that he's moved beyond that point.

I call these "humorless jokes." It's like, did you hear what the lawyer did to his two kids?! He KILLED them. Ha-ha-ha-ha! It's naked, unleavened aggression most thinly masquerading as humor. The word "joke" works better socially than "outbursts of malice." As in, "Did you hear that great outburst of malice that Rush spat out? It was so great, totally malevolent!"

Ted Kennedy and Ruth Badder Ginsburg are grown-ups and they can take it. The real joke is many Republicans believe what Rush tells them and will follow him into the ground. Now that's funny!

Actually Rush may think he controls life and death but he does NOT! Not even his own. Senator Kennedy has proven over and over again that he can overcome terrible odds. That Rush would even intimate that he has any idea of the time of Kennedy's death is blasphemy. I heard one of my neighbors the other day, saying, "Only God knows the time of anyone's death and believe me, the womanizing, hateful, nasty, disgusting person named Rush Limbaugh is far, far, far from being a god. He is a hate filled, mean spirited, disgusting toady that makes lots of money off of his nastiness." If I were Rush, I would spend more of my time worrying about meeting my maker after his long life of hate-filled rhetoric. Poor thing needs to prepare for his after life since he seems to break every health rule around. Grossly overweight, smokes, seldom speaks a pleasant thought. Poor, poor thing. He is to be pitied!

I think Chris Wallace would have called it a "joke" too. Akin to Wallace's 'Rush was just saying he wanted the president's policies to fail' defense.
