DNC: Jindal Has Turned To Limbaugh As His New Speechwriter

The Democratic National Committee released this statement today, in response to Bobby Jindal's remarks last night attacking Democrats for demanding that Republicans not want President Obama to fail:

"We understand that Governor Jindal has had some problems with public speaking lately, but turning to Rush Limbaugh to be your new speechwriter doesn't help. What we know has failed is the reflexive partisan politics of the past that Rush Limbaugh and his Republican party continue to be mired in. Rather than rooting for failure, we urge the Republican party to play a constructive role in moving the country forward and offer a budget proposal," said DNC National Press Secretary Hari Sevugan.

The Dems clearly like calling the Republicans the Party of Limbaugh -- and the Republicans keep on giving them the openings to do it.

Jindal must agree with this great quote here of Limbaugh's:

"We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black, because this is the first black president"

Hey, Limbaugh's disapproval across the nation is quite high so keep associating with him guys and the Dems will keep on enjoying an advantage.

One little quibble: in an official statement from the DNC, they need to be careful about their grammar.

...continue to be mired in.

If one is careful, one can and should avoid ending a sentence with a preposition. I know, a little obsessive, but it dilutes the message when there is an obvious grammatical error.

I disagree. This particular grammatical rule -- while not as antiquated as the use of "thee" and "thou" -- is well on its way. It may dilute the message for you, but it doesn't for most folks -- including many of us who recall when it was still a rule.

When told that he had committed the type of "error" you describe here, Winston Churchill responded. "That's a rule up with which I will not put."

Thanks for bringing that gem up. One of my late Father's favorite quotes.

That is a great quote! It had me laughing.

Re grammar: even Strunk is lenient on this point, and he is one authority I would not argue with.

Reminds me of the classic joke....

One day a blond was walking across Harvard yard when she asked a passing student, "Excuse me, can you please tell me where the library's at?"

"At Harvard," the student replied, "we never end our sentences with a preposition."

To which the blond replied, "can you please tell me where the library's at, asshole?"

I am liking how snippy the DNC is, they don't pull punches.

If Bobby Jindal is still a viable candidate for the presidency in 2012, he has now given himself the death sentence if he is going to use Limbaugh as his speech writer.

This shows the desperation of some politicians.

Republicans will not begin to find a clue about what ails them until they lose AT LEAST one more election, the 2010. That's when, I believe, they'll either honestly begin their long overdue self-assessment, or they will slide further, perhaps, irretrievably, in to political oblivion.
