Former RNC Candidate Blackwell: Steele Needs To Re-Read The Bible

Ken Blackwell, the former Ohio Secretary of State and ex-rival of Michael Steele for the chairmanship of the RNC, just made this statement to TownHall.com, positively lambasting Steele's comments in the GQ interview:

"Chairman Steele, as the leader of America's Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work -- or get out of the way.

You might recall that Blackwell's endorsement of Steele, when Blackwell had dropped out after four ballots, helped put Steele over the top.

Now he's telling Steele to read his Bible or get out of the way. Ouch.

Why hasn't he been indicted yet?

The Bible, AND the Constitution?

??

Why limit that recommendation just to Michael Steele?

user-pic

BINGO!

user-pic

Absolutely. I think mr. blackwell should read both. He sure doesn't know what's in the bible or the constitution, that's for sure.

user-pic

*cue tumbleweed*

"There's only enough room enough for one trophy black leader in this town, pardner."

user-pic

Maybe Blackwell should go back and read HIS Bible. Where in the Bible does it mention abortion?

user-pic

Not abortion per se, but it specifies that causing an injury to a pregnant woman is treated as a property crime against the father, not murder. All the pro-lifers who use the Bible as their justification need to re-read it.

user-pic

> ...causing an injury to a pregnant woman is
> treated as a property crime against the father,
> not murder.

I don't think that that would make a difference because evangelicals throw out all of those Old Testament rules with dispensationalist theology.

However, abortion did exist in Jesus' time and as far as I know, he never said a word about it.

user-pic

Except for Leviticus 19:22. That little paragraph is the prime motivator of contemporary conservative political dogma.

user-pic

I like the part right after the ten commandments where it talks about selling your daughter into slavery and how much you should expect to get for her.

user-pic

I like all the "smiting." The bible really gets into that. It's a veritable smite-fest!

But it does say not to beat up too badly on your slaves. Mainly 'cause they aren't worth a darn if they're all bloody and have broken bones.

user-pic

The funny thing about all of this is that it isn't Steele who's driving the party into the ground. It's the fellow republican reactions TO Steele ,such as this one by Blackwell, that are making the party look even more horrible.

user-pic

Was there ever comedy this golden on our side when it was the Democrats who were banished to the political wilderness?

user-pic

if this were a slightly different situation, someone might say something about pots and kettles...

user-pic

The Bible? For a public policy discussion? I'm not sure that African Americans (or anyone, for that matter) should advocate consulting a book that advocates and rationalizes slavery so vigorously.

user-pic

Oh, the actual text of the bible is never the issue. For pete's sake Jesus was to the far left of the current democratic party. It doesn't say 1/2 the things these people say it says and then they ignore the good things that are in the bible out of political expediency. They just use the scatter-shot references to the book to justify oppression, theft and sh*tting on the poor and less fortunate. That's the game plan for the grand old southern party stuck in the 19th century.

grand old southern party

The GOSP.

user-pic

Funny you typed that, I almost typed in gosp. By the way, if you think about it, virtually all the gop leadership back to the b-movie actor has been from the confederacy. As they said, the confederacy would rise again and it did for a while. However, they are now circling the drain into the dustbin of history once again. They are 0 for 2.

Newt. Bob Livingstone (short-lived as it was). Frist. Delay. Dole is from Kansas.

Good point.

Bring on the Kat Man!

user-pic

You gotta check this out, Michael.

(Warning: may induce hysterical laughter):

The RNC is hiring, and they know about that cool young people thing called YouTube. . .

user-pic

That was hilarious. Thanks for the link. The gosp in a nutshell.

On your list, you forgot trent lott, who praised the segregationist in I think it was lousiana. Also, turkey man from kentucky, a border state, but a slave state. Howard baker, majority leader from tennessee under the b-movie actor. Cantor from virginia. Roy blunt, missouri, slave state. Dick armey, texas.

The vast, vast majority of the republican leadership since 1980 has been from the south. There are only a handful from north of the mason-dixon line. And we all know that hastert was a figure head, so he doesn't count.

user-pic

Blackwell is forgetting something about us Catholics.
We don't read the bible.

user-pic

Blackwell forgot about the commandment against stealing when he rigged the 2004 election for Bush in Ohio.

user-pic

As a good psycoxristian scociopath Blackwell does not think of it as stealing. He and the lying bunch of liars in Ohio think they are doing "gods" work, which is really completely to "their" advantage, so THEY ... ARE ... GOD ...... get it ....?!? They are too humble in god's service to actually say this clearly in public but they have their codewords for everything xristian and wink wink it's a FAITH thing! Happy Rapture Everyone!
