Joe The Plumber Blasts Michael Steele's "Hip Hop" Ambitions

At a meeting of conservative activists in Milwaukee, Mr. The Plumber had some tough words for the RNC chairman: "Unfortunately we have a chairman up there who wants to redefine conservatism; he wants to make it hip hop, put it in a new package and sell it."
"You can't sell principles; either you have them or you don't," he added, to applause from the audience of 800 people.
Joe The Plumber has really embraced his self-proclaimed role as the voice of the right-wing working-class voter -- quite a different audience from Steele's desire to expand the GOP into minority communities. And Joe's pronouncement that conservative principles can't be repackaged and sold -- you either have them or you don't -- is strikingly similar to Rush Limbaugh's line from CPAC that conservatism is unchanging and permanent, solidifying a definite line of anti-Steele thought.

Has Joe-the-not-a-plumber paid his back taxes yet?

Well, yeah, to the extent that white working-class support for the GOP exists at all, it's predicated, first and foremost, on fear and loathing of African-Americans. Well, that and giving gays and gyno-Americans "special rights." Which is to say "rights." But mainly, it's a racial thing. "Reagan Democrats" were really Rust Belt Wallace Democrats.

Non-Joe the Non-Plumber is a bigot. That's why so many of those struggling whites are republicans.
In 2004, the local news in NC interviewed a guy who was struggling--lost his job, his healthcare, etc. He said "the Democrats offer a better deal for me but there are too many black and brown people in that party." He actually said that on camera.

I don't doubt it. This is the era of no shame. Just think of all the things Bush said "on camera."

Well at least that ol cracker was honest about it.
The wealth and power that racism has propped up for so very long has depended upon the idea of white privelege providing at least some small benefit even to the poorest whites especially in the south. For most poor whites all white privelege ever meant was that there was an insurance policy in place that meant you weren't ever going to be on the very bottom of the heap because the black people would always and forever be beneath you.
The Democrats(thankfully)abondoned that idea several decades ago. The racism lashed so closely together with the power and wealth of a small group of people has so infected some whites that they cannot relinquish it even when they know it would be best for themselves if they could put it aside. Racism, like nicotine addiction, is sometimes so bad that even though you already have cancer and your larynx has been removed so you can only speak on one of those awful handheld things, and you have emphysema that you keep smoking anyway because the addiction has overcome whatever willpower you may have once possessed. It's a sad, pitiful thing. Joe's got it.

Joe seems a bit prejudiced against hip-hop. I wonder, how often does he use the "N" word in non-mixed company?
Maybe he would have preferred that one of the former KKK Southern Dems had beaten Steele in the race for the RNC chairmanship. I would guess most of the Palin/Limbaugh/Joe the P crowd would have preferred someone of their own color.
This reveals one of the deepest chasms in the Republican Party. The bigots in their midst (especially south of the Mason Dixon lione, but certainly not exclusive to that part of the country)are not prone to supporting people of color, quite the contrary.
That portends difficult times ahead for the GOP, especially if they plan to grow, which will be necessary for their future political survival, let alone their current political power.
It is hard to keep growing when you resent and marginalize (over) half the nation's people, because they aren't a member your own race or religious cult.
