Report: McCain 2008 Staffers Angered By Palin's Prayer Remarks
CNN reports that former McCain/Palin staffers are now very unhappy with Sarah Palin and her latest antic: Declaring at an Alaska GOP dinner last week that none of her staffers had been the sort of people she would want to pray with.
Palin told an anecdote of her final preparations before her debate with Joe Biden. Check out the 4:00 mark here:
"So I'm looking around for somebody to pray with, I just need maybe a little help, maybe a little extra," said Palin. "And the McCain campaign, love 'em, you know, they're a lot of people around me, but nobody I could find that I wanted to hold hands with and pray."
One anonymous staffer expressed his outrage to CNN. "It's about us people who were on the plane, who showed extreme loyalty to Palin, continually getting thrown under the bus or slapped in the face by her comments, whether she means it or not," the staffer said, adding that this is the kind of thing that would "cause you to question not only your loyalty but her judgment as a leader."
This whole thing might have gone unnoticed, but for one thing: The Alaska GOP has posted the entire speech on YouTube.

It sounds to me like she's saying that no one was good enough for her to pray with. The phrase "that I wanted to hold hands with" is very negative-sounding. I would be very offended if I was one of the people she snubbed. It doesn't sound like she asked anyone if they would pray with her - she just made up her mind that they weren't people she wanted to hold hands and pray with. Geesh. I wonder what her criteria is for people she will pray with? White and Pentecostal?

Well, of course, you are right. Statements like this only reinforce her appeal to the core Republicans, who get up in the morning and start judging other people's faith and patriotism before they are done with their morning piss.

I can't believe I'm doing this, but here goes.
I watched the clip, and I was taken more by the "holding hands" part than the "praying with" part--in other words, I thought she was joking about how there wasn't anyone that she really wanted to hold hands with and pray, and not that there really wasn't anyone she wanted to pray with.
Maybe that's a meaningless distinction, but that's what I took from it.

I can't believe your doing this either CT. Sometimes a fruit cake is just a fruit cake. God knows Palin is not beneath issuing disparaging remarks and meaning every word of it.

The wealthiest oligarchs robbed us for years and now are robbing us of TARP bailout money and will keep robbing us until they accomplish their main purpose...making sure there are no entitlement programs like SS or Medicare or any National health care plan.
If you haven't yet read Glenn Greenwald's post at salon today where he points out exactly how and why and that our leaders have been bought out to accomplish this purpose.
Only recourse left is to shoot dead the oligarchs wherever you find them or end up sick, poor, prisoner, or slave. I'll be dead soon so our kids and their kids will be making this decision but I encourage them to do what our bought and sold government is too afraid to do. So few good men left there.

I don't pray, but I guess at the end of the day some prayers were answered- therefore here we have Palin in the dark video still relegated to the icy corners of the world.
Thank God, as they say in a prayer.

Been seeing a lot of Romney's "Free Strong America" PAC advertising on winger sites. If he goes for it in '12 and so does Palin ... he's going to destroy her.
A part of me wonders if she is cooling her jets for 2016 ... and another part of me wonders if she could keep getting elected to something in Alaska for that long.

The only way to stop her is to totally discredit her. She needs the spotlight on her until she explodes.
Palin is the most dangerous American politician today.

Maybe I am missing something, but it appears she meant it literally, and the underlying meaning was that the people provided to her as staff from the McCain camp were insufficiently Christian. Perhaps even non-Christian?

Is it me or is her voice pitched so that it is impossible to listen to? The only other voice I have heard that is so reliably irritating is from some Chinese entertainment programs. Maybe Alaska is close enough to China that the influence has rubbed off on her?
On a serious note, what are the Republican Party organizers thinking with their selection of speakers for their events--Rush Limbaugh, Anne Coulter, and Caribou Barbie as keynoters? The Democratic majority will be closer to permanent than the Republicans ever dreamed theirs could be.

PLEASE GOP! RUN PALIN IN 2012!!!!
in my state (AZ), Janet Napolitano was so formidable an opponent when running for re-election to the governor's office, that the GOP (in the state of Barry Goldwater!) had to go to the FOURTH-STRING to find somebody willing to be the sacrificial lamb and ran Len Munsil, Arizona's answer to Sarah Palin (think Palin with some brains and no skirt and no election experience as a candidate).
He got creamed by Janet, the AP called the election 5 minutes after the polls close.
If Obama and Geithner get the economy into a recovery by 2012, I would not be surprised if Palin ends up as the nominee for the same reasons.

What strikes me is noteworthy is not merely that her universe is populated by two kinds of people -- those worth praying with and those not -- but that the purpose of prayer is completely utilitarian and narcissistic. "Thy will be done"? Not so much. It's a power-up mechanism that will push her over the top.

I do wonder if she meant it more in a "These folks are so mean to little old me!" way.
Not that they were insufficiently faithful-after all, it took an awful lot of naive faith in a higher power to select her in the first place-but that they didn't treat her as the smart, powerful woman she believes she is.
She's never exactly been known for her fine phrasing, after all:

why doesnt this repulsive woman tell us why god didnt want her and mccain to win the election?
obviously she was allowed to become governor so the world can see the depths of stupidity that people can sink too.
any other time the idea that she can "see" russia from alaska thus giving her foreign policy ability would have been enough to laugh her out of office and into oblivion.
i can only assume god needs a good laugh now and then as to why she stays around.

how absolutely UnChristian
Is there anybody a true christian should say "I don't want to pray with them"?
Jaysus would tell her that even the least among them...and so on...and that they are the ones who need the prayer and your attention the most.
On a totally unrelated note, she is already running out of Fresh Date. She won't be a hottie in 4 or 8 years. So a large part of her cache is slipping away every day.

I think if anybody was praying it was McCain's staff who were probably making bargains with God (or maybe the devil) if she just wouldn't make a fool of them all during the debate. Most bizarre debate I have ever seen, I hope she runs in 2012 just so we can see her debate the Republican candidates. See if they are as lenient with her as Biden had to be.

Maybe her confession is that she was not strong enough to display her faith. She was embarassed by it, so she could not come out and admit to anyone she felt alone and needed support. I know, I'm giving her a vulnerable, human side here, but stay with me!
The questions that immediately follow for me are if you are the candidate, why don't you feel the support of these staffers? Is there something you have done that has warranted their not being supportive of you?
Maybe you need to listen to people instead of taking an "I've read the Bible and I have it all figured out for myself" attitude. Maybe they read those passages and thought something else about them. Maybe one of those passages as above-mentioned, "Judge not that ye be not judged" might be just one example.
Clearly it has not occurred to her to admit, she really cannot keep up with the professionals in the Lower 48. She lacks the qualities and skills necessary to be successful in the Lower 48. One would think she might wake up some day soon and say, I may be #1 in Alaska, but I really can't compete here in Washington DC. My preference is that she runs again, the lunatic fringe gives her the nomination and the Reich gets creamed again. But I would not begrudge her the realization AFTER that. That she would come to appreciate that she didn't have to leave Alaska to find happiness because all she ever wanted was right there on the tundra in her own back yard.

Let's see if I get this correct: She didn't feel anyone else was WORTHY of holding hands with and joining her in prayer? From a follower of Christ, who "palled around" with lepers & prostitutes? This, from a woman with a bastard grandchild, a traitorous husband (secession IS treason), who is greedy and lets the less-fortunate feather her nest with expe3nsive clothes, fancy trips & luxury hotels, who charges the taxpayers of Alaska for staying at her own house, who violated State & Federal privacy laws by snooping in her ex-brother-in-law's confidential worker's comp files, who set out on a vendetta against him. SHE couldn't find anyone "good enough" to pray with her?
