RNC: Did We Mention Our New Media Director Is A Christian?
You might get the feeling that Michael Steele is going out of his way to please the religious right -- to the point of really laying it on thick -- in the wake of his flap over abortion.
The RNC just sent out a press release announcing the appointment of former Microsoft executive Todd Herman as the RNC's new media director. This is a key part of Steele's efforts to get the Republican Party tuned in to digital media and its place in modern politics.
Now take a look at the very last sentence: "He currently lives in Washington State, where he works at his most important roles: Christian, husband and father."

These people are so pathetic.

Todd Herman's pathetic because he considers his important roles to be " Christian, husband and father"...?

Its pathetic because in a sane world, the guy's resume would be more important than all that professionally irrelevant stuff.

A man's most important life roles are to be a father and husband. If he looks to a particular spiritual model for guidance in his execution of those roles, that is probably a good thing.
How he performs his primary role has little bearing on how well he does his job. Some of my most unfortunate business relationships have involved men who were wonderful fathers, husbands, and Christians. Some of my most rewarding have been with philandering, neglectful heathens who knew how to do nothing other than work.
Choose your poison.

Kindly explain in sufficient detail why you are, as your screen name states, "anti-Strauss".
What do you take to be the meaning of "Straussian", and how does that actually relate to the teachings of Leo Strauss?
I warn you that I am an acadenmic specialist in the pedagogy and philosophical positions of Leo Strauss, and I am dismayed at how his name and positions are mindlessly bandied about these days. Not pointing fingers (yet), but if the shoe fits, etc. Just saying....

No, no... Johann Strauss.

Actually just by the name, I'd go for antipope.

FYI, those little snipet bio lines are usually written by the person themselves.

That is a good point. This mawkish little blurb was probably drafted by Herman himself. Which I suppose just proves that few of us are good at this kind of thing.

Especially in the case of the new MEDIA director.
I would hope he would be able to craft his own press release announcing his hiring.

Steele should think outside the box and get a reformed ex-Guantanamo, Yemenis gay refuge recovering drug addict for his next position.

He's already been tapped to be Commerce Secretary.

Besides the blatant pandering, what the hell does that even mean? How exactly has he been fulfilling that important "role" as Christian? Had he been busy at Microsoft trying to convert employees? Maybe he became available because he got tired of Microsoft HR calling him in to tell him to stop harassing the employees?

This reminds me of USDA's screwup. They had some clown in charge of their IT whose main qualification for the job was he was a publisher of Christian music. They had two major gaffes within a few months; they posted personal information on both farm program recipients and on USDA employees. It's good to see the RNC still has its priorities in place when it comes to hiring. Maybe the new guy can get together with the idiot who posted the names of former Sen. Coleman's donors.

Reminds me of all of the times I've advertised for a lab technician and the first line under "work experience" is "I served a two-year mission in country X." And that is germane to knowing how to perform molecular biology experiments how??
It's always guys who do this, too. Here in UT it's code for "You can hire me even though I have no pertinent experience because I'm just like you." Got news for you. . .

I didn't think you could be a Christian and work for M$....

It's really appropriate, because Michael Steele is the Zune to Obama's iPod.
Btw, Todd's last position was at a conservative media operation that nobody has ever heard of. Here's his profile: http://spinspotter.com/team

Have the Right Wing Christians caught a case of laryngitis ? They have been relatively quiet.
Yes, some of them are still talking. But are they a lot quieter than they used to be ?
They could form their own party and force the two big ones to compete for their endorsements. But, it seems, they are not inclined to do so.

I think you all are making mountains of a molehill. The last line of a bio is often a place to list residence and family [*]. Probably Todd Herman wrote it himself and if he chooses to put his religion over his family that's his prerogative. What's the big deal?
Yes, the Republican Party is beholden to the religious right, but this isn't evidence of that.
[*] The best bio I read had as its last line "He was named a Knight Bachelor in 1983." So there are exceptions to this rule!
