Steele Apologizes To Limbaugh, Praises His Leadership
In the new game of chicken between Michael Steele and Rush Limbaugh, the loser is...Michael Steele, who now says he never meant to diminish the voice and leadership of Limbaugh.
In an interview with the Politico, Steele said: "My intent was not to go after Rush - I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh. I was maybe a little bit inarticulate...There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership."
This comes after Limbaugh tore into Steele for declaring on CNN that Rush isn't a leader of the Republican Party, but is an "entertainer" whose rhetoric is "incendiary" and "ugly."
"I went back at that tape and I realized words that I said weren't what I was thinking," said Steele. "It was one of those things where I thinking I was saying one thing, and it came out differently."

Can this possibly get any better?

Oh, it can. And it will. Rahm and the Dems are going to milk this for everything it's worth.
It's a wondrous, self-reinforcing cycle: Democrats, citing evidence, insist that Rush is the party leader. Republicans, not wanting to seem like total tools and/or be completely marginalized, insist that isn't the case. Republicans get attacked by Rush for their apostasy. Republicans apologize to Rush. Democrats, citing new evidence, insist that Rush is the party leader.
Shampoo, rinse, repeat.

Amazing that Limbaugh has so much sway with the Republicans. The idea of deifying this guy and hoping to attract moderates and antithetical. If Republicans hope to become more main stream, they better pay attention to how many feel about the disastrous Bush years and the disgusting bigotry of people like Limbaugh. However, I doubt they want to make the sorts of changes needed for recovery after the disasterous G. W. years. Poor things.

So Michael Steele has made a groveling apology to Rush Limbaugh within a few hours of being smacked down as ineffective and pathetic by Rush.
If there were a Nobel Prize for political gamesmanship, Rahm Emanuel would be the hands down favorite for what he has pulled off in the past two days. He has made Rush the indelible leader of the Republican party for 2009 at least.

Yes, it is amazing that anyone spends a moment of time worrying about what is in the mind of Rush Limbaugh. Frankly, what is in there is so doctrinaire and silly that I simply have no interest in even trying to hear what is there. Every time he opens his mouth lately, he is castigating Republicans. Yet not a word of criticism of G. W. Bush. That alone shows the gaping hole in his reasoning power. I left the Republican Party last year because of the party's sharp move to the right. If they get any "righter" they will find themselves out of power just like they were during the long spell of Democratic Presidents.

I'm puzzled why everyone takes Rush so damn seriously these days. He's not even on FM radio anymore. Instead, his pathetically repetitive and one-dimensional show has been relegated to the backwash that is AM radio for years. What are his ratings like? What's his market share on AM? 2? How many people still listen to him? Who on earth lends this bloated drug addict any credibility at all anymore? My guess is not many. The truth is that he's become completely irrelevant, just like his portion of the Republican party. The post 9-11 world that the Bush crowd loved to trumpet as an excuse for all sorts of ill-conceived shenanigans has morphed into the post economic collapse world where the RepubliCONs are largely held to be to blame for the awful mess we currently find ourselves in. Their spin has become more than obvious for most of us by now, to the point where the same old message (read lies) bellowed by the same old crowd of blowhards (Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, O'Reilly, etc.) not only fails to make them any points but actually costs them in the public arena. They come off as clueless ideologues, blind to the failure of thier ideology, completely in denial as to their own culpability for the current situation and completely determined to cling to the messages and unethical methods that worked so well for them 15 years ago, even tho it is abundantly clear that their efficacy has passed on into history.

The Republican party now has approx. 50 million people who self-identify. Probably less, my numbers are old. Let's say 45 million. About half vote in any election, probably 1/4 at most in any primary.
Limbaugh has about 13 million listeners, steady, with a few million more sympathizers. They might be only 1/10th of the total electorate, but they are currently 1/4 of the Republican base - much more in some states. In a Republican primary, he can mobilize his dittoheads (think about that nickname for a second) into a pretty potent electoral force for or against a candidate.
Ubu Rush has got Mike Steele, and the Republican party, by the short hairs. And as gross as that sounds, I'm makin' popcorn.

DAYUM!!!
This must be how they do the do in Chi-Town. First POTUS, then Rahm, and now Tim Kaine, DNC Chair Response
"Democratic National Committee chair, Governor Tim Kaine, just released the following statement:
Kaine Statement: Steele Apology to Rush Limbaugh Proves the Point:
Limbaugh is Leading Force behind Republican Party
Washington, DC – On the same day GOP Chairman Michael Steele apologized to conservative talk radio show host Rush Limbaugh for courageously challenging Limbaugh’s role as leader of the Republican Party calling his show “incendiary” and “ugly,” Governor Tim Kaine, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, issued the following statement calling on Republicans in Washington to stop following Rush Limbaugh’s lead:
“I was briefly encouraged by the courageous comments made my counterpart in the Republican Party over the weekend challenging Rush Limbaugh as the leader of the Republican Party and referring to his show as ‘incendiary’ and ‘ugly.’ However, Chairman Steele’s reversal this evening and his apology to Limbaugh proves the unfortunate point that Limbaugh is the leading force behind the Republican Party, its politics and its obstruction of President Obama’s agenda in Washington. Just this weekend, Rush Limbaugh repeated his claim that he is rooting for the President to fail. The last time Rush Limbaugh said he wanted the President to fail, virtually every single Republican in Congress followed his lead and voted against the President’s plan to create or save 3.5 million jobs.
“As Congress works to pass the President’s budget, Republicans need to stop following divisive figures like Rush Limbaugh, stop apologizing to him and put aside the failed politics of the past so we can put our economy back on track, reform our health care system, break our dependence on foreign oil, improve our schools, and lay the foundation for long-term growth in the 21st Century.”

March 2, 2009 8:41 PM | Reply | Permalink
Or, they could let the press get excited about this, as they are predictably, while Congress discusses the budget, which starts tomorrow.
If Republicans weren't busy trying to figure out how to disassociate themselves with this blowhard without ticking off his wealthy backers, they would be all over the air waves explaining how cap and trade will tax all Americans and how Democrats are killing investment by increasing capital gains.
Instead, Obama will have a sort of free pass to explain the big budget items on his terms. A large energy working group was together last week. This week a health care working group is meeting. I assume an education one will be going on shortly. I'm looking forward to hearing the details coming out of these groups, which hopefully come out shortly.
But you're right, the MSM is starting to say Rahm is trying to paint Rush as the voice of the GOP. They need to be careful and hope the GOP doesn't call them on it.

Truly, don't worry about this. Rush can be counted on for two things: never shutting up, and always moving to the far right. So, all you have to do is triangulate; hold the elected Republicans up against Rush's pronouncements and ask 'em if they agree or don't agree. If they agree with Rush's latest fatwah, they lose all national credibility. If they don't agree, they get to grovel for Rush's forgiveness within 24 hours... and THEN they lose all national credibility. So, y'know, take your pick. And the beauty part is that Rush is so megalomaniacal that he can KNOW that this is a Dem. strategy but he still won't be able to stop himself.

(Of course, firing Geithner and Summers would help a lot with that...)

In other words that dog ain't gonna hunt. However this is McCain's cause so he'll look to get some publicity for it. The Obama administration could suggest that McCain talk to his junior senator from Arizona about his earmark requests.

Yeah, it's his issue, Jonze, er, sorry, Mr. Mitty, that is.
You know, the Ancient Mariner ran against a particular noun during his idiotic campaign, "greed." Bad noun! Bad! :-)
And he runs against "earmarks." Okay, but how does one fight the earmark noun?
You want some guy to vote for your bill. He says, "Well, okay, but where is the funding for this farm project I told you about? You want your bill, fine, but my state needs its farm project." So what do you do, say, "Look, if that's how you are going to be about it, we won't do either one!"? I'm serious. I'm against earmarks, too (also, greed). But what exactly do I do about it? Or do I compromise? Legislation is the art of, uh, what was it again?
Oh, McCain!

I say call Bobby Jindal. Maybe he can exorcise Rush from the party!

I didn't think it was particularly nice of Brian Williams to explain to his audience that Rush really doesn't run the party and to say so, was part of a Dem strategy.
Of course nothing could be further from the truth.

TS at Instaputz has coined a meme that's worth propagating IMHO:

Here comes the groveling! I wondered how long it would take 'til Mr. Steele begged from the bottom of his hip-hop heart for forgiveness from dear leader Rush Limbaugh.

Each and every day this group proves to us what clowns they are, rather than leaders. I don't know who Rush thinks he is, but the others are elected officials, participating in some juvenile, middle school ritual of toeing the line for the class bully. It makes me sick.

So then who is the RNC Chairman? Is he the de-facto leader , the ad-hoc leader , the excepted leader or just the pretend leader? The question seems to be; why was Michael Steele elected?

Who's next as RNC chair?
Joe the Plumber?

Michael Steele. . .Uncle Tom
Uncle Tom. . .Michael Steele....hmmm, oh I get it...they're one and the same!!
Steele, get some cojones!!

My question is: Did Rush let Michael use his hands to unbuckle and unzip, or did he make him use his teeth?

Poor Michael Steele. I don't know how he can call himself Steele. He should refer to himself as Michael Cotton. "Steel"e is hard and Michael "Cotton" is just a soft "Cotton" picking, boot licking Negro voice for some Overweight, White, Right-Wing Racist, so-called conservative/entertainer, drug addict named Rush. It easy to see how he's named Rush. Every chance he gets, he's pill popping.... trying to get that "rush" to the head and Michael Cotton "RUSH"ed to apologize to him for semi-exposing what RUSH really is all about.
