Bachmann: "Do We Want To Be Free, Or Do We Want To Be Slaves?"

Michele Bachmann did an interview posted yesterday at the right-wing blog Atlas Shrugs, where she talked about the danger of a global currency and other Obama economic policies. And she made this bold declaration: "And so we need to once again decide, do we want to be free, or do we want to be slaves? We have to make that decision. And I know I've made my choice, you've made your choice. And we have to act in concert if we want to make sure that we can hold on to what we have."

On the plus side, there was a point in the interview where Bachmann continued hearkening back to the American Revolution -- as she did during her fiery interview with Sean Hannity last week, when she said America was reaching the point of "orderly revolution" against Obama's Marxism -- but this time she was abundantly clear that she meant people needed to organize against Obama in elections:

The best thing that we can do, I believe, is to inform the American people what's at risk and what's at stake, and a better way forward. And if we can convince them -- because all we have right now is we can do that -- then perhaps we can turn this around in 2010, and at least stop the progress President Obama has made, continue to inform the American people, and make sure that his first term is his last term. And then we have to be extremely bold, if we are fortunate enough to win the presidency in 2012.

DC Observer - A stain in your shorts.

user-pic

I can't believe you went to that web site Atlas Shrugs. I'd run a full sweep virus scan to ensure some sort of virus that flashes subliminal messages on your computer screen saying "GOP Rules...Obama drools" wasn't installed or something.

user-pic

Batshit crazy isn't a computer virus that can sneak onto your computer.
The bigger danger is in the social engineering.
That is, you may actually take some of the content seriously.

user-pic

"do we want to be free, or do we want to be slaves?"

The idea that a white beauty queen rich Republican has the gall to even ask such a question is astounding.

user-pic

She never ceases to amaze me. It really is astounding the garbage that spews from her pie hole. I would say that some of her rhetoric in the past borders on sedition and she keeps pushing that line. I would hope that somebody would lock her up at this point and strip her congressional privileges. She is advocating overthrowing the government and violating the constitution that she has sworn an oath to abide by. Slaves? Give me a break.

user-pic

Some of us have been working for nearly slave wages for years now. Especially since Bushed entered office.
Where the hell do they find people to vote for someone so clearly insane like Bachmann? Did MN have a dirty bomb go off that made most of the voters reichwing nutters?
It boggles the mind!

user-pic

New Leader of the GOP?

Choices choices
Limbaugh?
Cantor?
Beck?
Steele?
The guy with the spray on tan?

user-pic

Throw in Palin, Mc Connell, Cornyn & Bachmann herself of course, plus God knows who else will decide to join the fray. Gregg, for instance, seems to be interested in becoming completely out of touch. All: out of touch, out of their minds.

user-pic

Well I for one think this should be our own choice! All those fat cats in the big ol' government, God bless 'em, really should just keep their noses out of personal decisions like this!

For example, I want to be free! But if our black friends, God bless 'em, want to be slaves, well by golly, that's their choice!

user-pic
'...and at least stop the progress President Obama has made..."

And every once in a while, a Republican tells the truth.

user-pic

Ya know, I'm really beginning to suspect that this twit is developing a bad case of presidential ambitions. I mean, why not? She's a milfy, brunette psychotic. What other qualifications are relevant to the Republican establishment these days?

user-pic

Yuck. I almost hurled. "Milfy"? Not in a million years. I agree with psychotic and brunette and I would add pea brain, but "milfy"? I'd rather join a seminary. Also, I bet both of them haven't done squat in that department for a long time. Too much ego and narcissism there. They both remind me of my ex-wife, maybe she should get involved in politics. Yuck. I'm going to go hurl now.

user-pic

Haven't you ever heard of hate sex?

user-pic

Lol!!

user-pic

Hate sex? Self-hatred maybe.

user-pic

That would be some pretty angry sex.

user-pic

Dunno, I always pictured Sarah in leather.

user-pic

Ewwww.

user-pic

Oh, c'mon people. I'm not saying I'm attacted to her. I'm not even saying I find her attractive in a hate sex kind of way, because, yeah, she's just too horrible for even that. I'm just saying she'd be attractive for her age if you did the Dollhouse thing on her and replaced her personality with one that wasn't criminally insane into her skull.

user-pic

I bet she makes Joe the Dumber horny.

user-pic

Dude,
I've got genuine crazy eyes - you know, pale blue, with the whites visible all around.

Her eyes make me very nervous. Like constantly checking my surroundings for means of egress, and improvised weapons nervous.

user-pic

Here's a terrifying thought. Maybe she's positioning herself for the VP spot in 2012. Imagine a Palin/Bachmann ticket.

user-pic

I think the only thing that would make Jon Stewart happier is if Joe the Plumber was somewhere on the ticket.

Dude must be prayin' hard, don't you think?

user-pic

Again, she is merely repeating the mantra of the Ron Paul movement. This is how these people talk. They hate the federal reserve, they fear global currency, they speak of revolution and liberty.

She has become one of their heroes.

user-pic

While I do not exactly agree with the Libertarians, you are quite far off the mark here. I can almost guarantee you that all of Ms. Bachmann's followers are the base Republicans.

user-pic

"I can almost guarantee you that all of Ms. Bachmann's followers are the base Republicans."

Oh they are BASE all right. Actually, I can see some Paulistas being attracted to Ms. Bachmann Overdrive's particular insanity. But some are actually smarter than that, tho most of them ascribe to a kind of individualist anarchist anti-any-government ethos that I find of no real use in the real world. But I can agree with them that the Fed's policies have been insane for 30 or more years and even that it should be abolished. The Fed is run by private bankers who police themselves, thru the Fed, and give themselves trillions of free dollars on the taxpayer. We have a crisis where trillions have vaporized off the banks books (and there are orders of magnitude more where that came from) and we intrust these very same incompetent, greedy slimeballs to "fix" the problem.
Oh, something is being "fixed" all right.
The rape of America. These selfsame bastards who have successfully de-industrialized and down-sized the working people of this country now are successfully sucking the Treasury dry of electrons representing tax receipts of far off distant years. They are the freakin' problem, people. Dissolve the Fed and/or subsume it under a new Bank of the US. Along a Hamiltonian, Lincolnian, FDR intention, to direct credits to re-start productive activity in our economy by making things and building infrastructure. This, as opposed to the path recently taken of merely making money off of money, the get rich quick jive of the American psyche, the disaster of Nixon tanking Bretton Woods, then the Reaganomics Zeitgeist and its subsequent strains (the virulent Bush strain, and the slightly more benign, but every bit as incompetent and contrary to the national interest Clinton strain). Obama so far, in this arena and also in his AfPak policy, is listening to bad advice. Ones hopes he dumps Summers, perhaps bring in Volker (I'm still not sold he's one of us), buck up Geithner or get someone stronger. Take on the banks. Declare this system dead, go thru reorganization and come out the other side with a smaller economy that is built on a foundation to grow good, well paying jobs and an understanding that we are on the right path for a better country in the future.

user-pic

I'm afraid it is too much to ask for..

user-pic

I know the GOP of the last 30 yrs, especially the last 8 years, has literally sucked the life out of me.

user-pic

It's wonderful that they aren't in power any more (well, not counting the Supreme Court), but the Republicans keep getting worse and worse, like a bacterial infection. It's unbelievable. Who would have thought they could spawn so many "leaders" as bad or worse than Tom DeLay. I guess where he was pure Evil, these guys and gals are just out and out nutjobs. Ugh!

user-pic

Entirely predictable, actually. When you're insane and governing, you at least get feedback from your craziness in the form of bad policy outcomes. Some of those bad outcomes are at least dimly percieved by the crazy people, because they at least have a rational desire to get reelected. Thus, the bad outcome feedback tends to check and contain the craziness to some extent.

Cut them off from the feedback that results when their craziness is translated into policy, and there are no limits and no brakes on how crazy they can become.

user-pic

Bush and company never gave a shit about their bad outcomes. They didn't even pay attention to them, other than to determine how to lie about them.

user-pic

Who would have thought they could spawn so many "leaders" as bad or worse than Tom DeLay.

Oh! The GOP as a hydra-headed monster: cut off one head, and two just as ugly pop up in its place. I like that analogy.

It's probably also fitting that the stench from the Hydra's breath was enough to kill. There is certainly a powerfully corrupt stench arising from the current GOP, and I don't doubt that it is deadly...

user-pic

How about a little Mary Antoinette justice ... starting with BockMan.

user-pic

Michelle Bachman is apparently a submissive when she isn't a foreign correspondent on enemy lines.

NTTAWWT

user-pic

Bachmann is trying to be her party's darling. maybe she's contemplating a run for president, at least she has a law degree. She knows the nuttier and dumber they are the more republicans love them; how else do you explain the popularity of sean hatetity, rush limpballs, bill-o the clown, steve douchy and palin the Pathological et al?

user-pic

She actually mentioned elections this time? What self discipline. Someone must have had 'the talk' with her.
I'll bet it lasts no longer than the next interview with someone who eggs her on for a cheap ratings bump...

user-pic

Bachmann, turn her, over, drive.

user-pic

That's very funny. But its not nice. I want her to go back into her batshit cave, but I don't want to hurt her.

user-pic

You ain't seen nuthin' yet

user-pic

I'm sorry but this chick is starting to sound a little dangerous.............

user-pic

This woman's completely out of her tree. What kind of person votes for her? We have some elected prize nuts of our own here in UK, but I don't think we have anything like her.

user-pic

That's because you haven't developed gerrymandering into the high black art it is in the states. When a state legislature tries to pack as many voters of the opposite party into a single district as it can, so as to limit the number of seats they can win, it often ends up creating a hothouse growing conditions for extremism.

user-pic

I bet she makes Joe the Dumber horny.

user-pic

Oh dang! Replied to wrong NCSteve post.

user-pic

Pamela Geller and Michele Bachman star in "When Batshit Met Batshit".

And remember, Pamelot is a very crazy person who happens to be the former publisher of the NY Observer and a bud of John Bolton.

user-pic

i just find it utterly preposterous that a person like her actually exists.

user-pic

It may be that given her meager stature and diminutive following that she should be ignored.

user-pic

"and at least stop the progress President Obama has made..."

sigh

user-pic

I continue to just LOVE Ms. Bachmann. She is a constant reminder of just how crazy the Repubs are and continue to be. I would like nothing better than a Palin/Bachmann ticket...can't see the getting more than 42 percent....and that's a scary thought...

user-pic

someone has to give her her medicines back, please.

user-pic

Can we just strap this gal down to a chair, give her a IV of caffeine, and just keep the tape recorder rolling? This just keeps getting better by the day.

user-pic

And she made this bold declaration: "And so we need to once again decide, do we want to be free, or do we want to be slaves? We have to make that decision. And I know I've made my choice, you've made your choice. And we have to act in concert if we want to make sure that we can hold on to what we have."

She continued, "It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not. We've got each other and that's a lot. For love. We'll give it a shot."

user-pic

She continued, "It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not. We've got each other and that's a lot. For love. We'll give it a shot."

Ugh. Please hold my hat while I upchuck my toenails.

user-pic

I would enjoy spending a weekend with Pam and Michelle discussing the variables of freedom and slavery.

user-pic

Do you think that right wingies like Bachmann know their history and that the guy that they are claiming would be enslaving them actually represents a race of people that suffered through ACTUAL slavery from our country's founding fathers???? Incredibly ignorant and insensitive.

user-pic

It's not at all surprising that the typical GOPer says things as stupid as this. Did you see the racial makeup of who was on the floor of last year's Republican National Convention? For them, slavery is merely an abstraction. Their party is as tone deaf as they are incompetent.

user-pic

Incredibly ignorant and insensitive.

And this surprises you how? This is the Republican Party we are talking about, remember?

user-pic

Michelle Bachman's new slogan: Stop the progress.

user-pic

Of course. That is fundamentalism at its core, is it not?

user-pic

Now if we just get Bachmann - Palin Overdrive on the 2012 Republican ticket ... Of course, Huckabee - Keyes would be almost as entertaining.

user-pic

Free, of course! Free to quit Congress and go far, far away to an island where the voices can't find me. Go on now, get crackin'

user-pic

I've listened to the audio of the interview on Atlas Shrugs. I didn't hear her say the "slaves" comment. Was there a mistake, or did they scrub that part of the interview?

Please, someone explain it to me, or point me in the part of the interview where she said it.

user-pic

Never mind, it's at the end.

user-pic

Enough. Enough. Enough. I don't care who we run, I don't care, I just want her out of the congress, end of story. I want her gone. Enough, we must all put our might into getting this woman out of congress.

user-pic

If people like Bachmann, Beck Limpbone, inSannity, etc were out there critisizing Bushco and their policies, they would have been removed from their soapboxes through the notorious Patriot Act. I'm all for Freedom of Speech, but come on! How dangerous do they have to get before someone tells them to tone it down a bit?

user-pic

The thing to remember about Bachman and all her little friends in the House Republican Conference is that most of them are not demagogues or crazy they truly believe the stuff they spew is gospel. Bachman and company do not think they are right they know, with exact certainty, that they are right. They consider themselves God’s agents in place and anyone who does not tow their particular line has to be corrupt or agents of the Devil.

P.S. Is there anyone out there who can tell me what an “orderly revolution” is?
