Cantor: "It's Not A Rebranding Effort"
CNN reported last night the GOP was launching a new initiative, the "National Council for a New America," as a push to rebrand the party's image away and counter the label that the Democrats have put forward calling the Republicans the "Party of No."
However, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) appeared today on Fox News, and he said it is not a rebranding effort, but is instead an attempt to engage with the American people:
"Jane, it's not a rebranding effort," said Cantor. "What this is, is an attempt to engage and begin a conversation with the American people. what we're looking for on the National Council for a New America is to involve all the American people for wide-open policy debate about the issues confronting this nation, on the issues confronting the families and the communities across this country."
So did CNN read in too much, thinking that an effort to alter the party's image was tantamount to rebranding -- or is it that Cantor is walking the idea back?

All the American people had a "wide-open policy debate about the issues confronting this nation, on the issues confronting the families and the communities across this country." Then we had a referendum on said issues. We won, you lost, suck it, Cantor.

Well, we are "fake" American people and therefore not counted there in their mind...

This is the party of Norm Coleman. They'll keep re-doing the policy "debate" until they win.

I don't blame Cantor one bit. This "marketing" lingo is patronizing and makes a lot of us cringe. I'll never forget how creeped out I was a few years ago when the NYTimes did a big article on Nancy Pelosi's interest in George Lakoff's book on "framing." It's just not something you can talk publicly about, unless you want to look like some string-holding mass political manipulator.

Didn't we just have and opportunity "to involve all the American people for wide-open policy debate about the issues confronting this nation, on the issues confronting the families and the communities across this country"?
If memory serves, I think it wrapped up on November 4th.

P.S. It will be interesting to see if this new rebranding (or whatever) effort is the GOP's come to Jesus meeting or just New Coke.

If they're going to rebrand, I think they should get rid of the "GOP" moniker. A new "handle" could be the Southern White and Male Party, aka, the "SWaMP".

SWaMP. I like it. Think I'll join.
NOT

And all the SWAMPies 'll be right out there behind, (under, on top..etc.) of the Palin/Prejean ticket in 2012.

This is just another group set up to bash Obama and his policies. In time we will see quotes and ads from the NCNA - total BS.

Embarrassing Eric, we *have* a "New America" now thanks to the President Obama and the Democrats spanking you and your ilk last November 4th. Your "America" failed us completely. And the idea that John McCain can be on a council for a "New America" is absolutely laugh-out loud-able!

McCain is below the average age for a Grand OLD Party member, isn't he?

If you have to deny that it's not a "rebranding" effort, you've already lost the battle.
How is this grand and glorious conversation with American People going to take place?
Evidently not via Twitter.

Just using The Google to see if NCNA was already taken as a domain name:

O/T: I wish you had left a link to the blog you posted because I couldn't find it when I went to look for it.

lol, it's my first real one. I posted it at night and it disappeared by early afternoon--I had no idea it would vanish so quickly in the flux... I kind of was of the thinking that posting a link was too, um, advertisement-like:

I recently emailed my horrible representative, Mr. Cantor, and asked if he condoned Michelle Bachmann's recent hateful diatribes or not. I received a form letter reply with the best part being "You may be assured that I will keep your views in mind should any related legislation come before me in the House of Representatives." LOL!!
BTW, I expect Eric will show up at a coming festival around town. If I see him I intend to directly ask him my same question re: Bachmann. I am sure he will give me his standard deer in the headlight look and stupid George Allen-like smile. Bet on it.

When Ford produced the Edsel and it flopped, they didn't try to "rebrand" it and push it back on the public.
Until Republican learn to stop blaming everyone else for their sorry state and make significant policy changes, all the marketing in the world isn't going to help.

The question I have is how do people without health insurance, whose savings have been wiped out, who have lost their jobs do to Republican mismanagement have freedom and oppurtunity. This freedom and oppurtunity slogan is Orwellian in it's oppositeness.

I guess I am going to be hearing this freedom and oppurtunity nonsense for three more years. Maybe the Republicans should supersize it. Super freedom and super oppurtunity.
