DSCC Chair Menendez: Minnesota Supreme Court 'Needs To Be The End Of The Road' For Coleman

DSCC chairman Bob Menendez released this statement tonight, regarding Norm Coleman's appeal of his defeat in the Minnesota election trial:

"It is sad, but not surprising, that Norm Coleman would continue to drag this process out any longer. While it is certainly within his right to appeal, given all of the challenges facing this country right now, we'd hope that he would put the interest of Minnesotans above his own and allow all of us to move on. It is 167 days since the election - it is time for Republicans to stop holding this seat hostage as a way to obstruct President Obama's agenda. We should all let Senator-elect Franken get to work for the people who elected him. The Minnesota Supreme Court needs to be the end of the road."

The Dems have been steadily drawing a line in the sand, that Al Franken should be seated after he presumably wins at the state Supreme Court, without this getting further bottled up in the federal courts. We'll find out in due time how successful they are.

Sadly, unprincipled, cringing, liberal Democrats can think of nothing to do in this matter but whine, wring their hands, and address unctious, lame appeals to Coleman.

Of course, Franken and the Democratic majority must wait for the MN Supremes to rule. That is how it is done in MN. But, once they rule, the Senate should take swift, decisive action.

They should seat their member from MN.

If the Republican Governor or the puffed-up SCOTUS attempt to interfere (a) with the voters, (b) with the state court, or (c) with a majority of the Senate, then it is time to start fighting.

Democrats should fight not for some obscure or improvised "process" but for (a) the sovereignty of the voters, (b) the separate powers and collective responsibilities of the US Senate, (c) not the perogatives of blow-hard individual members thereof, and (d) what is left of the written constitution, (e) not the pretentious writ of Federalist Law Lords.

A federal lawsuit should be dimissed or, failing that, should be ignored by the Congress and the President -- enough already!

So far, Republican elected officials have simply ignored the outcome of the 2008 election and used money and media to obstruct anything and everything but the "earmarks" they keep getting even as a minority in Congress since 2006.

What is that? "Hold Harmless!", "Jes' He'p Ever'body" cornpone Democrats keep throwing money at the GOP in reciprocity for what? Where is any accountability for the GOP minority? Where is responsibility for the Democratic majority?

Is every Democrat hog-tied by lobbyists, wire-tapped, and blackmailed into submission, or are they really just as stupid and cowardly as they look?

Ab-so-frickin'-lutely.

Righteous rant - and dead on too.

The pressure should be directed at MN's GOP Gov, to certify the election. This is especially true once the MN S Ct decides in Franken's favor -- after all, how can the Gov continue citing state law about holding off until election is decided once the State's Supreme Court has spoken on the matter?

Of course, logic is one thing; politics another
