Franken Campaign Plays It Safe On Specter

Al Franken's campaign seems to be playing it cool regarding the ramifications for them of Arlen Specter's switch to the Democratic Party -- that if Franken is seated, he would officially be the 60th Dem in the Senate, seriously raising the stakes of this whole fight.

I asked Team Franken for comment about Specter's switch, and the prospects of being that 60th Democrat. Spokesman Andy Barr told me: "Sen.-elect Franken looks forward to working with Senators of both parties to make progress on President Obama's agenda and move our country forward."

Al Franken might be looking forward to working with Senators of both parties, but chances are the Senators of the other party aren't looking forward to working with him -- or too eager to even let him have that chance.

Sounds like no quarter given or asked.

Franken, unfortunately, is in no position to make comments other than ones similar to this one. To come out with anything stronger just fuels the GOP fire of "It's not over until we (meaning the right wing dominated SCOTUS) say it's over!"

Franken is a class act! Coleman is a spoiled brat. After a fair and honest process counting the ballots, he continues to deny his state 50% of their representation. Although on the other hand, I wish Texas would lose 50% of its representation. They are so gung-ho to support their base which is dreadful here that they seldom represent anything moderate Republicans to moderate Democrats support, including most of the independents. sigh......

The badly wounded GOP still has lots of bucks and clout with the Supreme Court to throw the election in Minnesota. A wounded animal is very dangerous. If the Minnesota Supreme Court rules in Franken's favor, Reid better seat him post haste, so the question becomes mute. The pressure on Governor Pawlenty to sign the certificate will be intense from Minnesotans, who are fed up with this charade. If Pawlenty thinks he has a the power to "review" the Minnesota court decision, he would be acting outside his constitutional powers and state law. He is NOT the decider.

Unfortunately there ae some Democrats who aren't embarrassed to vote the social agenda of the Republicans. They may not defect but it makes no difference if they do not vote for cloture.
