House Budget Drama Finally Over
The House GOP budget was up for a vote a few minutes ago and it...failed miserably; 137 in support, 293 (including 38 Republicans) against. Those are the only 38 Republicans in the House who don't think we need a spending freeze and tax cuts for the rich at this particular historical moment. However, none of those 38 civic-minded souls voted for the Democratic budget, which just passed 233-196.
How do I know that? Because as with the stimulus bill, zero Republicans voted with the Democrats on this major agenda item. Not surprisingly, though 20 Democrats voted with the Republicans against the Democratic resolution
I'll post roll calls later tonight or tomorrow, depending on when they become available.
Late update: Roll call on the GOP budget here, on the Democratic budget here.

So
- When's the Senate vote?
- Is the health... reconcilliation.. care... thing... in there?

Wow. So the Democratic budget actually bled less support than the Republican one. So there was some sanity left after all. (A smidge anyway)

Watching this budget debate on CSPAN is incredibly frustrating. Bayh's Senate bluedog cabal just teamed up with Republicans to force an amendment to the budget granting an increased estate tax exemption. The fact that these guys will talk all day about deficits and fiscal responsibility, yet they'll take every opportunity to give tax break after tax break to the wealth is insane. Yet for some reason, despite the fact that the Democrats dominate Republicans numbers-wise, there's 51 Senators willing to continue with fiscal policies that have proven to be detrimental to our country over the past 35 years.
These guys are right to be worried about being targeted. What good are they if they're going to act like mini-Republicans everytime a vote comes up?

I don't think the estate tax exemption is what you think it is.

Well, Brian, in fairness, some of those 38 Republicans who voted against the GOP substitute voted for the Republican Study Committee substitute, which cut spending even further.
That said, the GOP substitute budget couldn't get 218 votes when George Bush was in the White House.

Cao hints he'll vote for the Budget then doesn't. Clearly he has no intention of serving more than 1 term.
Walt Minnick (D, ID-01) on the other hand seems fully intent of serving a second term, as he hasn't voted with his party yet I believe.
