National Dems Join In On Bachmann-Watching
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) seems to be emerging now in a very important role for the Republican Party: To be the leading bogeyman for the Democrats, now that folks like George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Rick Santorum, Jesse Helms, etc., are all long gone and out of office.
The DCCC is now getting in on the Bachmann game, launching BachmannWatch.com:
Rather than focus on the easier target of Bachmann's record of extremism, McCarthyism and talk of revolution, the Dems are instead setting out to pro-actively debunk things she's said that simply aren't true. An example:
$1430 for Everyone in the World?
BACHMANN CLAIMS...
"The amount of money that's been committed by this Democrat government already, the amount of money that they have committed, your tax money to spend, would equal, and I'm not making this up, a check in the amount of $1,430 written to every man, woman, child in the world."

THE FACTS Basic math: dividing the $789 billion recovery package by the estimated world population of 6.7 billion only equals $116.

DCCC Launches "Bachmann Watch" WebsiteThe DCCC announced today the launch of BachmannWatch.com, a new website dedicated to highlighting Congresswoman Michele Bachmann's extreme rhetoric and false claims she makes to bolster her outrageous statements.
"Michele Bachmann isn't just out of touch with Minnesota families, she is out of touch with the truth," said Gabby Adler, the Midwestern Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Michele Bachmann will say anything to support her extreme agenda, even if it means lying and twisting the truth. While Michele Bachmann may play fast and loose with the facts, BachmannWatch.com disproves her lies and provides voters the real story.
The website, www.BachmannWatch.com, features "Michele Bachmann vs. the Truth" where Bachmann's lies and misstatements are fact checked. The website will be regularly updated as Congresswoman Bachmann further proves how out of touch she is with the hardworking Minnesota families who are looking for common sense solutions to the challenges facing our country.

Why stop there Mrs. Looneytoons.
The entire Universe!

Good idea, but would be better if they supplied links for the correct statistics at factcheck, etc.

"Michele Bachmann will say anything to support her extreme agenda,..."
No, Michele Bachmann will say anything to get herself more publicity. So far, it's working quite nicely.

For all political junkies out there, Campaign Diaries has just published the first part of its 2010 House ratings, devoted to a detailed district-by-district analysis of 62 GOP-held seats. The quick take: 6 races are rated as toss-ups, 12 as lean retention and 44 as likely retention.

Bachmann is from the 6th district of Minn. On the list you post, it "leans" to retention.
She only won 46% to 44% in a solidly Republican district. I gave her opponent 10 bucks in the viral "Dump Bachmann" wave -- it's not clear to me that she will be as vulnerable in 2010.

I hope they have more than "dividing the $789 billion recovery package by the estimated world population of 6.7 billion only equals $116" as a response.
I doubt the wingnuts would be any happier to learn the %789 billion recovery package is doling out only $116 checks to everyone on the planet instead of $1,430 ones. For anyone who actually takes Bachmann without a mountain of salt the size of Mt. Everest you have to spell it out very clearly.

We here in Iowa note that Michelle was born here and we are glad her parents moved with here to Minnesota. We also think that in the spirit of equal protection from the wack jobs in the House of Representatives that the DCCC should give us a watch site for our own Steve King. We also request that it be in more than one language to suit his personal distastes.

Most of what King says sounds better in the original German anyway.

... the Dems are instead setting out to pro-actively debunk things she's said ...
Debunking a claim after it has been made is reactive, not proactive.
I'm just sayin'.
