Newspaper That Endorsed Coleman Last Year Now Calling For Him To Concede
The Albert Lea Tribune, a local newspaper in Minnesota that endorsed Norm Coleman for re-election last year, has an editorial telling him in no uncertain terms to give it up:
This newspaper endorsed Republican Norm Coleman for senator, but now it is time for him to step out of the race and let Minnesota have two senators again.
...
Coleman is now only delaying the seating of Franken and in doing so is not servicing his staff, his financial contributors or the people of Minnesota.
For a time many Minnesotans followed the case closely, but now, after five months, they mainly see stalling. As for the rest of the country, at first, Americans thought Minnesota looked like a diligent place for vote recounts. Now, it's starting to seem like an election laughingstock.
And Coleman, who rails against career politicians, is looking like a career politician who is losing his career.
The editorial was published this morning, before Al Franken picked up another net 87 votes, now leading by 312 votes out of about 2.9 million.

Hopefully the Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press follow suit. The only thing that can end this case sooner is public pressure on Coleman and GOP Senators to quit obstructing the seating of an elected Senator.

Will this really matter to them? I mean, what does Coleman, or the GOP for that matter, have to lose at this point by digging his hole any deeper? If they anger all the newspapers in Minnesota-- are these people they really plan to be impressing at any point in the future?
On the other hand, behold! Even the liberal NRO The Corner is now calling for Coleman to concede.

Even if Coleman doesn't care, Pawlenty might, because he has the ultimate power to bring this to an end if Coleman refuses to.

Pawlenty has his finger in the wind even more than Coleman. If he wants any support for his 2010 re-election, he'll issue the certificate.

Once the MN-SC denies Coleman's appeal, Pawlenty is the next line of defense. The DFL would be smart to get out in front now and start ratcheting up the pressure on Pawlenty to not delay signing the certificate.

He just said it would take several months, though, and he was crowing about the delights of having the most thorough count/recount remotely imaginable.
He is laying the groundwork that will allow him to obfuscate, if he feels the political price for such is one he afford.

Time to start hitting the MN newspapers with the truth that Coleman and Cornyn are putting their party ahead of the good people of MN. And Pawlenty of time has been wasted, while they go unrepresented!

I hope Minnesotans speak up loudly for Coleman to step down and put that pressure on T-Paw to get his act together.
