NRCC Fundraising E-mail: "Don't Let'em Pull A Franken"
The NRCC has has sent out a fundraising e-mail suggesting a full-scale legal fight in the NY-20 special election, with the subject header, "Don't Let'em Pull A Franken." Key quote:
We need your support to ensure we can overcome the Democrats' legal maneuvers.
Democrats have almost succeeded in stealing the election in Minnesota and seating Al Franken. We cannot allow them to manipulate electoral results to seat another tax-troubled liberal.
We need your support to make sure the will of the residents of New York's 20th district prevails in the final outcome.
Full e-mail after the jump.
Don't Let'em Pull a Franken
I just stepped out of a political meeting...
Don't let the Democrats steal this election. Less than 80 ballots separate Republican Jim Tedisco and his Democrat opponent. We cannot afford to allow the Democrats to steal this election.
Please contribute today and together we can ensure a fair and accurate count of the remaining ballots.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Guy Harrison, Executive Director
P.S. Democrats will do whatever they can to hold this seat. Do not allow them to steal this election. Please contribute $25, $50, $100 or more NOW so we can ensure a fair and accurate election.

This sort of mal-PR is why I was distressed this morning at my local paper's coverage of the MN election. The last thing the San Diego Union-Tribune had to say about MN was an announcement of the MN Supreme Court decision to not issue Franken a certificate before this appeal had played out. The paper characterized that as a blow to Franken, that the MNSP refused to seat him.
This morning the paper has 3 short paragraphs, about half of which is a quote from Ginsberg. The rest says, "...Franken's bid for a Senate seat received a boost from a Minnesota court opinion yesterday limiting the number of votes still to be counted,...." If the only other thing San Diegans hear about this election is that Franken stole it, what will people in general think? Just what the Republicans want them to think: Franken doesn't want votes counted, the whole thing was badly run - you know, the Coleman (AKA Ginsberg) talking points.
The Democratic party may have bigger things on their plate at the moment, but they need to hit back hard and quit letting the Republicans stand alone on the stage spouting their propaganda.

Look. I know how you feel. I grit my teeth everytime I read an AP headline that refers to Obama. But the times have changed. No one (at least not critical thinkers-and somewhat critical jag offs like me) are buying anything the MSM is selling these days. There was a time in the 90's and early 2000's where that was true but now there's an overwhelming load of information to suit ones desire to weed out a different point of view. Plus, the person that takes as gospel everything the MSM says, they probably didn't vote Dem/Obama anyway. As far as Republicans go, let 'em rant. They sound like idiots from a bygone era and a majority of people see that. Have you seen their latest approval ratings?

Plan69, you are right. I often lose sight of that. I hate the AP stories, the cable jackasses, the whole 'wired for the GOP' cast of the Beltway, as Josh called it. But then I see in poll after poll that all their bullshit just doesn't affect people that much anymore. If it did, Obama would be at 30 percent and Bush would have left at 60.

I guess it's because I live in almost-brain-dead-USA. I live in Issa's district, for crying out loud! Unfortunately, most of my neighbors get their news from the TV. Local TV news is heavily stories about who got chased and shot, who crashed their car in a spectacular fashion, fires (annual excitement), and that perennial favorite, "Oh no! Lindburg field is too small-let's move it to Miramar AFB!" Besides the TV, there's always Rodger Hedgecock on the radio, the ex-San Diego mayor who left office over some "irregularities," but who is highly regarded nonetheless. Sort of Rush, Jr.
So I'm headed outside to continue working on a set of footed arrows. I'm good at regular arrows, but the footing is giving me some trouble. It's good for one's balance in life.

OK, gotta ask. What's a footed arrow?

In times past, an arrow shaft had a harder wood spliced into the bottom 8 inches or so. This makes them less likely to break when they hit something hard like deer bones or armor. Or, in my case, rocks. So you taper the the main shaft down to a flat point and fit it into a 4-6 inch slot you've cut into the hardwood. Glue and make it all cylindrical, which is easier said than done.

Ah, thanks. I was picturing you out in your backyard replacing the feathers with some sort of exotic toenails or something. Happy footing!

If Republicans couldn't engage in blatant projection, they'd hardly have anything to say at all.

See what I mean about them not having the ability to be embarrassed?
If the NY thing drags on, I hope that the Dem will hang on as well. It would be interesting to hear the repubs act all indignant about it.

I think they mean, "don't let them pull a George W. Bush." Bush used legal maneuvers to stop the Florida recount. Franken supported having a Minnesota recount.
Projection...projection...projection...

You got that right. And Coleman's lawyers actually repeatedly cited Bush v. Gore as a precedent.

That email is deeply offensive.

and thoroughly expected...

So how should Dems respond to this crap? Even with the facts on the Dems side, the Republican strategy seems to have traction in the MSM. If the Dems respond in a way that calls the Repubs on their BS, then it is often then cast as he said she said politics.
