Poll: Bush And Cheney Still Unpopular

A new Gallup poll tests how former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney have fared in public opinion since they left office. The answer: Badly.

Bush's favorable rating is only 35%, with 63% unfavorable. Cheney is at 30% favorable to 62% unfavorable.

Bush's popularity had been inching up a bit over the course of the 2008 campaign and as he was on the way out -- up to a high of 40% favorable and 59% unfavorable in early January -- but his numbers now are back near the all-time low of 32% favorable and 66% unfavorable from April 2008.

Honestly, how can 30% of the population actually be dense enough to view Dick Cheney favorably?

Clearly, the polling data questions were skewed:

Question: Do you think Dick Cheney should be dropped in a vat of boiling oil in Times Square on Super Bowl Sunday?

Answer: No dude, the game's on!

Taken as a favorably rating.

LOL!

These poll results aren't that surprising, really. Cheney's ratings had nowhere to go but up. It's not as if he could have gotten a 0 favorability rating, is it? Sheer statistical noise would prevent that. . .

user-pic

Now if Cheney went on Dancing with the Stars, would his favorability improve, or would he tank the show? (an aside, I'm imagining Cheney doing the tango and feeling a bit, um, ill)

user-pic

Damn it! Is there a way to scrub my brain of that image?

Thanks.

No, really, thanks.

Just so you know, I'm plotting my revenge.

user-pic

heh heh, I probably deserve it. But, just so you know, I'm also tortured by that image in my imagination. It won't go away!

user-pic

Heh. Dickwad Cheney on DtwS in a wheelchair!

user-pic

with a rose in his teeth....

user-pic

STOP IT!

Would he be wearing red tights, as well?

user-pic

And with his assassination squad/chorus line he'd be sure to win.

user-pic

Long for the day that critical thinking is well taught in our schools. Then we will get the percentage down into the single digits (some people are hopeless after all).

user-pic

Excellent point. Another republican strategy. Keep the population uneducated by cutting off education funding so that they don't realize that the republicans are robbing them blind and taking away their freedoms.

user-pic

Bu$H who? Cheney what?

user-pic

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This may go to prove that the American public actually do understand the it was Bush, Cheney and Co that got us into this mess. The R talking point that it's all Obama's fault, since he is now the president, has no legs...

Amazing...first the American people actually elect the best candidate, and now they aren't blaming him for things that are not his fault...is it possible that we are not as dumb as we look...?

user-pic

Polls that ask that question directly show the same thing. Americans blame Bush for the mess we're in, not Obama, and the GOP's "who you gonna believe, me or your lyin' eyes?" campaign is going nowhere.

user-pic

It's great that Americans are realizing what jerks these guys are.

user-pic

Americans still have not acclimated to the smell of a steaming turd in their living room.

user-pic

Ok, Ok, where's the turdblossom?

user-pic

Who?

user-pic

o/t but somebody asked this in the comments of a post yesterday - What happened to Elana Schor?

user-pic

Who?

user-pic

Or how about Matt Cooper? He hasn't posted in ages.

Ok, I know I know. "Who?"

user-pic

I noticed that her name and photo no longer appears at the top of this page. Hmmm....

user-pic

Those numbers are too high. No way those guys deserve anything over 20% approval. Particularly Cheney and his tone-deaf, extremely inappropriate of Obama since his election.

user-pic

inappropriate TRASHING (meant to say)

user-pic

For my part, my general impression of Bush has gone up since he went away...at least in the narrow aspect of his choosing to keep his mouth shut and pretty much disappear. Of course, the disastrous policies regarding torture and the economy continue to come to light but just in general, my impression is no worse.

Cheney on the other hand.... As Jon Stewart said, "Can I offer you a big cup of STFU?" Someone said he had nowhere to go but up. At least for my part, I disagree.

News Flash: Poll: Bush And Cheney Still Unpopular

In other news: Franco still dead and shit still stinks.

user-pic

There should be 3 categories: Favorable, unfavorable, the worst leaders in the history of our republic.

user-pic

Why would anyone think things would change? The only way Bush and Cheney could get a favorable rating from me is if they were to set themselves on fire.

user-pic

From your comment to God's ears!

user-pic

All you really need to know about the Bush legacy is that questions like this are being asked about him and his VICE President. Think about it...are people asked to re-evaluate Poppy Bush AND Dan Quayle? Do historians consider a re-appraisal of Harry Truman AND Alben Barkeley?
The fact that W's legacy can't be taken into consideration without throwing Cheney into the mix is tacit admission of what a fraudulent enterprise his governance was from the beginning!
This whole thing was an updating of the famous comment about history repeating itself, first as tragedy then as farce. This was tragedy and farce simultaneously! (The quote may have been Marx...I'm just not sure if it was Karl or Groucho).

user-pic

We still have people proudly driving around with Bush/Cheney 2004 bumper stickers, W stickers, "We support our troops" magnetic ribbons, next to NRA membership decals. . No matter how horrible the last 8 years were, there is a significant portion of the population that is immune to reality and reason. The current US House GOP members are the distillation of that segment of population. These polls numbers will never go lower for Bush/Cheney. This lower one third is a sad legacy.
