RNC (Belatedly) Supports Coleman Appeal
The RNC has (finally) released a statement in support of Norm Coleman's (predictable) decision to appeal last night's court ruling in Minnesota. We were wondering whether behind the scenes the RNC might be on the verge of throwing in the towel...but no. It's the Michael Steele Show now. It's just very, very slow.
Full statement below the jump.
RNC CHAIRMAN STATEMENT ON MINNESOTA SENATE RACE COURT RULING
WASHINGTON - Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele released the following statement today.
"I am glad that Senator Coleman is appealing the recent court order in Minnesota. More than 4,400 voters remain disenfranchised because judges ignored equal protection concerns and the facts from Election Day. The Republican Party will continue to strongly support Senator Coleman's appeals until we are confident that no voter is left behind."

Good God Steele is an idiot. 4,400 voters cannot be disenfranchised under equal protection because equal protection doesn't apply to Minnesota absentee voting. Minnesota statute clearly states that absentee voting is considered a privilege rather than a right. So unless they're going to try to attempt to say that absentee voting in general should be considered a right (which they haven't even come close to saying), Steele can go suck an egg.

No, he's not an idiot. He has divined correctly that if you keep saying it over and over, louder and louder, that there is a segment of the population that will buy it. Rush and Drudge will tell them it's true. They will never know or want to know anything more, but they can be guaranteed to repeat with feeling and frequency and carry a grudge until the next time Steele and Assoc. need to pop them out of the box to support some Repub cause.
(Roar) Disenfranchise! (Roar) ACORN! (Roar) Stolen election! (Roar) Cheats! (Roar) Baby Killers!
Then Palin and Bachmann can get going with the need to take up arms or whatever stupid thing they say next. No, Steele isn't stupid, but he is showing definite signs of lacking any moral compass.

Steele isn't lacking a moral compass. His compass points directly to whatever moral magnetic source is strongest at the moment just like any good compass should...

Yes, but will the Minnesota Republican Party support it? They are the ones who might feel the backlash from this.

There's hardly enough of the MN republican party left to be relevant. Their down 85-49 in the lower house, 44-23 in the senate. They republicans lost an incredible number of incumbents in the last election.
Didn't they have the national convention in MN because they thought the state was ready to flip? How'd that work out? Heh heh.

Former Senator Coleman is now claiming his appeal won't be filed until "sometime next week".
I've seen some allegedly neutral commentators claiming that they don't have enough evidence to conclude that this appeal is anything besides a bad faith effort to delay Senator Franken's seating.
Those allegedly neutral commentators can now show their true colors.

I figure he will file his appeal 9.5 days after yesterday. Delay, delay.
