Steele: Republicans Should Be Like Me -- "Unconventional, Unpredictable"

The Baltimore Sun reports that Michael Steele told a GOP fundraising event in his home state of Maryland that the Republican Party needs to stop all the infighting -- and be more like himself.

Steele told the crowd that Republicans should be "unconventional, unpredictable...to do from time to time the unexpected."

Steele also noted the flack he's taken as chairman. "Someone told me this whole chairmanship thing would be a cakewalk," he said, adding that he's managed to "tick off" a lot of people.

I've been thinking: is it possible that Michael Steele is actually doing his patriotic duty to help advance Obama's agenda by marginalizing the Republican party and making himself look as ridiculous as possible? Because he's doing a pretty good job so far!

user-pic

Interesting theory. He is certainly doing his patriotic duty of giving me a good laugh on a regular basis.

user-pic

Well, the McCain campaign frequently looked like it was being run by Obama moles -- maybe enough of them got RNC membership to vote Steele in!

user-pic

I think the GOP's taking his advice to heart. I certainly found it unexpected when they proposed a "budget" without any numbers.

user-pic

I can't imagine what is unexpected about that. When has there ever been any actual substance behind anything they do?

user-pic

Yeah, but usually they're better at making it look like there's some substance.

user-pic

Heh heh, Um, wouldn't being unpredictable and unconventional kind of create more infighting? Having to count on Steele has to be like counting on Batman's Two Face.

Did the coin land on heads? Uh oh.

user-pic

Steele is the perfect face and voice of today's Republican Party.

He's got us right where we want him.

user-pic

He doesn't just make himself look ridiculous, but the Republican party as well!

user-pic

If the GOP really wants to be unconventional and unpredictable, they should nominate Palin for prez in 2012 and Joe the Plumber for veep.

Do it, GOP! You can't lose with that ticket!

user-pic

Even better - Joe the Plumber at the top, Michele Bachmann for VP.

Somewhere, right now, Jon Stewart is praying for this...

user-pic

Is there a grown up in the GOP leadership? If so, can they take this nut, Ohio's Fake Tan, insane from Minnesota, screaming a-hole from Texas and Mike "this is just like an Indiana market" Pence behind the woodshed to just get them to shut up and let the adults try to get something done? The Dems were boring and splintered in 2000-06, but I don't remember this level of collective insanity/inanity. Dems seem, at least at the highest level, to have less tolerance for embarrasing behavior - after all, Dean had one embarrassing scream and basically imploded. Maybe its all the Dukakis in a tank/Bubba with his pants down scarring.

user-pic

Seems to me that the 'grown ups' in the GOP are either retired or pretty much spouting the same old same old that was dogma during the Bush years. They have few new ideas, leaving the young ones to try out new things. Problem is, that the new crop seems to be a bit, um, problematic (Jindal, Steele, Bachman--I'm talking about you!).

user-pic

Pfeh. I knew he would say something like that...

user-pic

What an egoist --- he thinks it's all about him. "Hey, everybody, be like me because I'm so great."

user-pic

He reminds me of a circa pre-head shaving Britney Spears, constantly doing something "unpredictable" to stay in the press daily. I think he should definitely consider wardrobe malfunctions next, really spotlight his work. Wait, what IS his work? Beyond the obvious Campaign Gotcha!?

user-pic

Yeah, just do some random shit, for strategic reasons, just to see what happens. That'll show who should be trusted with power.
How about a big elephant tattoo on Steele's forehead. That'd get the kids' attention.
And Rush Limbaugh thinks Obama's causing chaos to pass his agenda!

user-pic

It's hard to believe this is the same party that made me wake with night sweats a mere three years ago. A clown car now.

user-pic

Michael Steele isn't unpredictable; he's just unstable. His behavior seems fairly easy to predict. He consistently takes whatever position he thinks will most please the person he is talking to at the moment. He's a social chameleon.

user-pic

Unpredictable? He means Erratic! Why not get a glass pipe with multiple hoses and turn the whole party into some lame brained whacked jobs.

user-pic

"Dare to be stupid!"

CAUGHT BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA

In order to gain the political control they’ve enjoyed over the last ten years, Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians, bigots and misanthropes) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. They made a strategic decision to manipulate and exploit the ignorance, fears and hatreds of dysfunctional and vulnerable voters in order to win elections rather than lose them by being intellectually and morally honest.

Today, those who conspired with the devil are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and or casting out the devil they empowered and the karmic reality that they don’t have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without continuing to accept and “advocate” the immoral values, hypocrisies and corruptions that are dividing and destroying their party.

The survival of today’s shrinking Republican Party has become so dependent on extremism that they have no significant power left WITH or WITHOUT the support of America’s increasingly pernicious lunatic fringe.

The idiom “caught between the devil and the deep blue sea” is certainly appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are suffering the consequences of their treachery.

Their irresponsible propping up of George W. Bush cost them their credibility, and their disgraceful and shameless licking of Rush Limbaugh’s storm trooper boots is costing them their viability.

What a card Michael Steele is! I almost believed him until I realized this was April 1st.
