Bachmann: Our Freedoms More At Risk Now Than Any Time In Recent History

Rep. Michele Bachmann appeared last week on the right-wing talk radio show of Jan Markell, where she spoke out forcefully against the Obama Administration for not wanting to go after foreign terrorists -- and for targeting conservatives through the Department of Homeland Security's report on right-wing extremists:

"It isn't that they don't want to use the word 'terrorism,' it's who they're using this word against," said Bachmann. "And as you had stated correctly, in this report -- which I have read, it's about a nine-page report I believe, if I recall correctly -- the right-wing extremists report, they include people who believe in End-Time prophecies, pro-life. It is appalling the people that they named."

She later warned: "People need to realize that truly, our freedoms are more at risk than they have been at any other time in recent history."

This woman is so superficial and so stupid that it takes my breath away. I cannot fathom how the hell she has gotten as far as she has----the people she represents must be just like her....ignorant.

user-pic

True but her real problem is that she has lost track with reality. she is so totally confused that even her rank partisanship takes a back seat to her silly statements. We should pity the poor thing.

user-pic

She is completely correct:

People need to realize that truly, our freedoms are more at risk than they have been at any other time in recent history.

From the mouths of babes and all that...

user-pic

All of nine pages?

Did you spend a weekend on that, Rep. Bachmann?

user-pic

That's the funniest part. She seems so proud that she actually read the nine-page report she's explaining to us (and that she's been obsessing over for weeks now).

user-pic

She remembers turning all 9 pages and thinking, "Wow, that's a lot of words. I wonder what they say!"

user-pic

If you look at the actual report (link below), one page is the cover page, a second is an explanation of what the Branch does) and the last page has a reporting note. So it was really 6 pages of lotsa words. Not 9. I was wrong.

GOOD ONE!! :)

(snark) Because people in these groups have never engaged in violent actions against the citizens of the US... (/snark)

When I look at that picture of Bachmann on the soundbite icon I begin to imagine her head beginning to spin and pea soup projectile vomit coming at me.

Well, you'd better read it again, imbecile. There is absolutely nothing about "End-Time prophecies". And, it doesn't mention pro-life people, which is understandable, since it's warning of violent extremists who may commit acts of terrorism, hardly what you could accurately describe as "pro-life". Here's the only mention of the abortion issue:

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

Of course, we all know that the anti-abortion folks would never commit acts of terrorism, such as setting off nail bombs at abortion clinics or assassinating doctors.

Just keep on giving us good copy like this, Michelle. You're going to have it jammed back down your throat during the 2010 campaign. That's a promise.

Eh. Like the lakebillies and jahoos of her district care. She's won, what, three elections now? Or is it only two? Despite being the most unabashedly loopy member of an unabashedly bonkers party. And that's cool, Clearwater. Go on with your bad selves and keep electing comic relief for the rest of us.

user-pic

Before you go on a tear bashing Minnesotans, please keep in mind this woman wins with less than 50%. MN has a strong Independence party whose candidates usually nail down vote percentages in double digits, which is precisely what happened in 08.

user-pic

By the way, in case you haven't read it:

DHS Extremism Report

user-pic

She has an immutable set of preconceptions dicated by her bias and ideology, she filters all she sees and hears through those preconcptions, anything that fits into the preconception filter sticks and gives rise to alarm and bemoaning, anything that doesn't fit gets washed through the filter, never perceived or grasped.

Much as I'd love to join in a good pile-onto-batshit-insane-Michelle unity thread, that pattern is just too depressingly familiar around here, of late for me to enjoy it.

user-pic

Who'dya mean "our", wingnut? Get back in the FEMA camp!

user-pic

Michelle Bachmann do you know what projection means?

user-pic

She is faulting the Obama administration for being concerned about anti-government madmen such as Timothy McVeigh. (One may refamiliarize oneself via the sloppy but informative writeup, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_McVeigh)

See, the Bachmanns of the world hold views surprisingly close to those of such mass murderers (they find herself strongly agreeing with many of McVeigh's malevolent "concerns"), and it upsets them to have their dark paranoias examined in government reports -- too close to home.

user-pic

It's so TRUE, Michelle! I mean, where do these people get the idea that people who stockpile weapons and speak in self-righteous apocalyptic terms might possibly represent a threat to anyone?

Sheesh. It's like these people are trying to out-Taliban the Taliban.

user-pic

Well, if it wasn't for the tendency of some pro-lifers to blow up abortion clinics and murder doctors, and of some end timers to stockpile weapons and blow up federal office buildings, I guess she would have a point.

user-pic

I can understand her concerns. They say that due to the recession, there will be a cutback in the production of tin foil!

user-pic

She was on Lou Dobbs last night in one of Lou's regular floggings of ACORN. She claimed that ACORN "has access" to $8 BILLION in the new stimulus package. Of course, they're actually getting less than $2 MILLION, but never mind that. They HAVE ACCESS to $8 BILLION. I guess she could have said that the federal budget is $3 TRILLION, and they have access to that. But that would have been ridiculous.

user-pic

Michelle Bachmann is terrorizing my brain with teh stupid! And imperiling us all: I'm willing to bet that the majority of her followers are fully armed and ready to snap.
