David Vitter: The Week In Review
It's been a fun week for Sen. Vitter (R-LA), the Christian-right champion whose career became bogged down in the D.C. Madam prostitution scandal in 2007. Here's what happened:
• It was briefly floated that former state Elections Commissioner Suzanne Terrell (R), who narrowly lost the 2002 Senate race to Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu, was considering a GOP primary challenge after Vitter had delayed the confirmation of the new head of FEMA.
• Just as quickly as she'd put her name out, Terrell put out a statement endorsing Vitter -- just as previous potential primary challengers like Tony Perkins or John Cooksey have done before her.
• Porn star Stormy Daniels formed an exploratory committee to run against Vitter. Daniels has said in the past that people are looking for honesty and integrity in their leaders -- meaning that her campaign would likely be a platform to remind voters about Vitter's indiscretions and hypocrisy.
A Republican source told me that they're feeling fine about Vitter. "We're confident he's gonna be fine, we're confident that he's gonna win," the source said. "He still enjoys high approval ratings, he spends a lot of time in the state talking about what's important to his constituents."

Is that true, or is that yours? It's very funny either way and thanks for sharing it.

LOL - to the best of my knowledge, it's mine. Hmmm...maybe it's time to put in a marketing call to the Daniels campaign?

Guess the Candidate wouldn't have used the "W" word, come to think of it! Cheers!

I suggest: "You can Depends on me" for Vitter. Horrid grammar, but remarkable honesty from a gooper hypocrite.

I'm pretty sure that porn stars would have a problem with the 'whore' characterization.. it's funny but I doubt it'd show up on a bumper sticker

Don't confuse being a porn star (legal profession) with being a prostitute (illegal profession.) Stormy, to my knowledge, has never been on the illegal side of the line, and in an interview she pointed out that, unlike her prospective opponent, has never done anything illegal.
And don't think for a moment that she's some dumb bimbo. In the interviews that I've seen she has handled questions with aplomb and has shown a good bit more intelligence than a lot of politicians that I've seen. I suspect that she is a lot more in touch with reality than most of the famous Republican base, and as such, will probably be a senator who would actually accomplish something, unlike Vitter.
As for the family values crowd, remember that the family values states have the highest subscription rates to internet pornography, the highest divorce rates in the US, and are the most faithful watchers of the racier TV soaps. She just may be able to pull it off.

Surely he'll have a Democratic challenger? WTF?

Yes the article linked from Ms. Daniel's twitter states that her spokesman is a career Democrat although she has not decided on party affiliation.
TPM states that it's largely accepted she would be running the primary against Vitter.
So...????

Let's think about this for a moment. Why not consider an honest-to-goodness porn star for the U.S. Senate?
After all, Stormy Daniels is very forthright about her past, and sounds eminently more sincere regarding her political intentions than 99.9% of that bayou rogues' gallery which Louisiana has repeatedly entrusted with public office.
Bottom line, the State of Louisiana could certainly do a lot worse than elect Stormy Daniels to Congress -- and as its well-checkered history shows us, it all too frequently has.

Maybe Stormy Daniels can help negotiate a rapprochement between the Larry Craig and David Vitter wings of the GOP?

That's easy--just add a Koala baby changing station to the men's room, and let the fun begin.

It's official, every Vitter story will now also include, or be dominated by, Stormy Daniels.
Talk about Karma.
