Franken: "I Deeply Appreciate" Opportunity To Meet With Biden

The Franken campaign has released this statement on Al Franken's meeting today at the White House with Vice President Biden:

MINNEAPOLIS [05/06/09] - This afternoon, Senator-elect Al Franken visited the White House to meet with Vice President Biden. Franken updated the Vice President on the state of Minnesota's second U.S. Senate seat, and discussed the administration's agenda and its potential benefits for the people of Minnesota. Franken was accompanied by his wife, Franni.

Al Franken:

"I deeply appreciate the administration's ongoing support and the opportunity to meet with Vice President Biden today. Minnesotans are eager to see Congress make progress on the administration's agenda - and I'm eager to do my part in that effort. From investments in alternative energy to the expansion of high-speed rail to the Twin Cities, we have a lot to do to help Minnesota's working families, and I was pleased to discuss these important issues with the Vice President."

Late Update: Vice President Biden has released this statement:

"The election process and recount in Minnesota have lived up to the state's reputation for organization, transparency, and bipartisanship. The officials have been meticulous and every ruling has been unanimous.

"While Senator Amy Klobuchar is one of the hardest working members of the United States Senate, Minnesotans deserve their full representation.

"Once the Minnesota Supreme Court has issued its final ruling in this case, the President and I look forward to working with Mr. Franken on building an economy for the 21st century."

Once the MSSC rules (in favor of Franken) Team Coleman will find a Bushie Federal judge to issue a stay on Certification until an appeal to the USSC has been heard which will probably happen sometime in November with a ruling in 2010.

Walrus, I have posted this here a half-dozen times: if a Bushie Federal judge actually stops certification, then at that point, Harry Reid needs to seize his own authority as Majority Leader of the United States Senate, and simply say, "We decide who to seat" (which he can do!). And then, seat Franken.

The problem with that is twofold:

[a] Harry is already on record as saying they won't make a move until MN issues the certificate. He has to reverse himself, if it comes to this, the threat of the Republican filibuster be damned, and;

[b] it's Harry Reid :-(

But the bottom line is that, like a dog who wishes to lick himself, he could do it and this would all END.

My hope is that once the MSSC rules in favor of Franken, the MN Sec.of State immediately signs Frankens certification. If Pawlenty doesn't sign it, so be it. The Senate seated Burris with only the Gov's signature, not the Sec.of State of Illinois, if I recall. So let's just let MN turn the tables on what IL. did, and let the Senate seat Franken and see the s**t hit the fan.

Sounds like Biden has already decided the outcome for them.

This is excellent news!

And that's the other thing:

A Federal court may well issue a ruling which attempts to put Franken's seating on hold, somehow.

But for Minnesota to accede to that Federal ruling would not merely codify the theory that the Federal government could interfere with a state election (Northern secession, anyone? :-), but more gravely, it puts the Federal judiciary in the pants of the Legislative Branch.

That cannot stand. The Senate has always possesed the sovreignity to determine who it seats. So if Harry (see my post above) said he was seating George Schmidlap from Your State Here, and the Judicial Branch tried to step in and tell him to cease and desist, for whatever reason... that's called a "Constitutional crisis".

Bottom line: that will never happen.

So as soon as the MN Supreme Court rules, Reid needs to seat Franken immediately, regardless of certificates, filibusters, or the price of tea in China.

The worst that will happen is, the R's will launch the most unpopular filibuster in American history, gumming-up the works of government at precisely the time when the Amucun peeple want ACTION.

Bring it the fuck on. I never wanted the Republican Party to survive the first decade of the 21st Century, anyway.

Yes, this is excellent news... for Hillary!

Bet almost everyone in the country knows good ol al now thanks to the buck shot from the other guy.
This has been blast after blast from the other guy and good ol al keeps walking straight into it.
Take this much heat, stays mellow, in the spotlight for months.
Looks like a winner at any level he likes.

Exactly! Al Franken would have been a Jr Senator from MN and probably melt into the woodwork, like Burris did. But Coleman has elevated him into a household name!
