Koh Held By DeMint
Just a quick update on the nomination of Harold Koh to be the State Department's legal adviser. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee was supposed to hold a vote today on whether to favorably report him to the full Senate, but was prevented from doing so by Sen. Jim DeMint (D-SC) who's placed a hold both on his nomination and on the nomination of Susan Burk to be the President's Special Representative for Non-Proliferation.
The holds will last until at least the committee's business meeting next week. DeMint didn't cite any particular reason for placing them, but I've placed a call to his office asking for an explanation.

It's hard to keep track of who's a Republican and who's a Democrat in these crazy times--but I'm pretty sure DeMint is still on the conservative team.

It is obvious that Republicans are now the party of "NO" and we will have to knock down their numbers again in the next election to see if they get it. I am a 'has been' Republican who left the party because of their stupidity and hate filled rhetoric and because they refused to stand up to G. W. during his reckless, illegal behavior. The Republicans deserve to be out out of control of anything for years and years to come. Ignore them, President Obama and that will be the best for our country too.

He won't be satisfied until President Obama nominates the crazy preacher Phelps. Or someone like him. He will have to be a white male, from the south, an evangelical proselytizer, oppose the Voting Rights Act, oppose gay marriage, oppose Roe v. Wade, hunt with an AK-47, fish with hand grenades and have Rush limbaugh's approval.
