NCLR Spokesperson: Not The First Time Tancredo "Doesn't Know What The Heck He's Talking About"

I just got off the phone with Lisa Navarrete, vice president of the National Council of La Raza, getting her take on Tom Tancredo's assertion that the longstanding Hispanic civil rights group is the "Latino KKK" and that their slogan is "All for the race, nothing for the rest."

"It's not the first time for Mr. Tancredo when he doesn't know what the heck he's talking about," said Navarrete. "I don't know what he bases the assertion on, since he didn't provide any facts or evidence to that effect, as to why he calls us the Latino KKK. But I can assure you our motto or logo as he phrased it, is not what he says it is. It's not the motto of any Latino group."

"We've urged the [Republican] party to not allow people like Tom Tancredo to dominate the debate, as he has on the immigration issue," she added. "And he has, and it's cost them."

Dia de la Raza is Spanish for Colombus Day. So it's about a mixed blood people initiated by the arrival of the Spanish.
Pura raza means pedigreed or purebred as with cattle.
It has nothing do do with race.
What dumb f**ks.

The wikipedia article on NCLR states that a different wacko Republican accused La Raza of having that motto, and that La Raza stated that had never been its motto and renounced the motto in any event.

I guess Republicans really do not want the Latino vote any more.

Anyone who went to college where there was a la Raza group knows better than to give Tancredo's claim any credibility at all. My memories of la Raza are that their moms made really excellent tamales for fundraisers - spoiled me forever more on the subject of tamales.

Let's have a look: the KKK's function is to maintain "white purity" by snuffing out those who don't meet their requirements. In my experience, la Raza engaged in advancing opportunities for Latinos by bolstering student success and self-confidence. Good for them. Good for me.

On the other hand, Tancredo's audience (Fox newsies) is unlikely to have ever attended college and will believe anything. The Dems should create a group called, oh...Great Conservative Opportunities or Mom and Apple Pie Homesteads... and sell them some lovely ocean front property for white folks only right near McCain's place. Cool, great fundraiser to fund the 2010 elections.

Can't they sue the stupid *ss for libel unless he makes a public apology? These slime will keep spewing lies unless there is some penalty for it.
