Poll: If Coleman Loses At State Supremes, Minnesotans Don't Want A Federal Appeal

A new SurveyUSA poll, conducted for the ABC affiliate in the Twin Cities, finds that Minnesotans don't want Norm Coleman to take his case against the Senate election results to federal court in the event that he loses his appeal to the state Supreme Court.

The poll asks: "If the Minnesota Supreme Court upholds a lower court ruling that certified Al Franken as the winner of the U.S. Senate race, what should Norm Coleman do? Appeal the decision? Or concede the race?" The numbers are overwhelming, with only 27% for an appeal, to 70% who would want him to concede.

Democrats would quite understandably want a concession by a 94%-5% margin. Republicans are for an appeal, but by a weaker margin of 58%-37%, showing some fatigue with even the GOP base. Independents would favor a concession by 65%-29%.

"I'll keep fighting to make sure that every last vote for me is counted, no matter how long it takes. I'm doing this for the people of Minnesota and it'll take more than a huge majority of Minnesotans telling me to stop before I stop. I owe the people of Minnesota nothing less. Whether they want it or not."

(Sigh!) Why can't Norm Coleman implode the way Arkansas State Sen. Kim Hendren just did, and publicly refer to Al Franken, not by name, but as "that Jew"?

user-pic

I doubt that would have much effect seeing as Coleman is Jewish.

Minnesotans need to stop sitting on their hands. Angry mobs hounding Coleman at his home would do the trick.

The will of the people was decided back in November, 2008. The will of Norm Coleman and the GOP, unfortunately, is being dragged out in the courts with quasi-legal gambits that most of us don't understand.

I empathize with the citizens of Minnesota; you can't realize a damn thing out of this election until Coleman concedes or self-immolates.

Give it up already!

A federal appeal would continue to erode the Republican Party, which might explain the 5 percent Democratic support.

I'm perfectly fine with Coleman continuing his appeal - in fact, I think he should - as long as Franken gets seated once Minnesota Supreme Court rules, ending the state process.

I don't think at this point, or ever really, Coleman really cares what people in Minnesota think.

I can just see Norm standing in front of a camera when the decision comes out, that he is appealing "for the Minnesota people." I wonder if he will even be challenged by the person holding the mic.
