Poll: Public Disapproves Of Pelosi's Handling Of Interrogation Controversy

A new Gallup poll confirms what has been a general political consensus: Nancy Pelosi has not handled the controversy over interrogation/torture techniques very well.

The respondents were asked this question: "Do you approve or disapprove of how each of the following has handled the matter of interrogation techniques used against terrorism suspects?"

President Obama gets a 59% approval to 29% disapproval, consistent with his high favorability on pretty much any question. The CIA weighs in at a healthy 52%-31%. Congressional Democrats just manage to be in the black at 44%-40%, and the Congressional Republicans are behind at 40%-45%.

Nancy Pelosi, however, is at 31%-47%.

Do we need a poll to tell us what is written in giant neon lettering?

"NANCY F'ed UP"

Yup, we know.

Big whoop! I'm sure Nancy is among the 47% who don't like how she handled this.

That said, it's still a stupid story. Nancy was not complicit in torture; she's had one position on this for the past 6 years.

Narrow polls are trash.

There is no "interrogation controversy", it's a made up notion. There are many points of possible controversy or contention. Pelosi is unpopular for various reasons including standing up for what's right.

"Although there are no trend data on this particular question, it appears that Pelosi's attempt last week at damage control did not do a great deal to bolster her image on the interrogation situation." -- Gallup

That wasn't damage control, that was a political attack and so far she's on strong ground.

Getting all lathered up about optics is just buying into the spin game. In this case the Gallup report shows its bias and muddling quite clearly.

In a time of universal deceit telling the truth will get you low poll numbers!

With all the foaming at the mouth in the media over this lately, it's hardly surprising that she has low numbers. I think the truth will out pretty soon, and suspect she'll be partially or fully vindicated.

Not surprised. Before Bob Graham came out with evidence she was telling the truth, I was among those calling for her resignation.
