RNC Site: "ObamaCard" Expires In ... January 2012?
A new Web promotion by the Republican National Committee, the "ObamaCard" -- parodying the national debt built up by the stimulus bill -- seems to be a bit confused about exactly when a presidential term ends:

Note that the ObamaCard is listed as being valid through January 2012 -- as opposed to, say, January 2013, when the current term will actually end as laid out by the Constitution. The card could have also potentially gone for November 2012, as an allusion to when Republicans hope to unseat President Obama on Election Day 2012.
But no, they went for January 2012, the month when we can actually expect the Republican Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary.

Now we know why their first budget didn't have any actual numbers in it. Numbers are hard, obviously.

Wow, pretty devious. Race card, maybe? Ugh.

I think that's a serious stretch. And while there certainly is bigotry out there, we should avoid jumping to the conclusion that a particular attack on Obama is racist, for two reasons:
1) You don't want to cry wolf.
2) In a democracy, people have to be free to say that they think the president is an idiot without automatically getting accused of being a bad, immoral person.

Relax, Eric. Just Google "Obama race card", look in "Images", and you'll see what this guy's getting at. Whether or not this is close to that is up to you, but considering the racial attacks he's endured from the GOP to this point, I'm not sure that's such a far leap to make.
When you consider the source, I think we also don't have to make any assumptions about the character of those that would publish this nonsense. The date's wrong, let's all have a laugh - but to me, it's pretty alarming that less than six months into Obama's presidency, folks are trying to unload Bush's history of free-spending nonchalance onto Obama with cheap, dumbed-down gimmicks in order to burnish their legacies and grasp power. That is pretty immoral in my book, Eric.

I think you might find it hard to convince the type of people who might exploit racial issues in cases such as the one you mention that they are racist. In fact I would be almost certain that the people in this case will just blow you off or say that you are the one who is racist.
I am not saying you are wrong, I am just unsure what sort goal you might have in mind. I am also sure that many such as myself do not debate the veracity of racist talk in the GOP in general, rather I believe you are essentially accurate.

Ugh. I wasn't aware of any of those "race card" images. Thanks for the education.
I'm not as concerned that Republicans are trying to pass off the last eight years onto Obama. I think people have been hurting long before the financial markets collapsed--why else would the "Right direction" ratings keep dropping month after month after month after month until this spring? In spite of everything coming out of Republicans, Bush, and the media, people knew things were bad, and getting worse. I don't think the "THE DEFICIT IS ALL OBAMA'S FAULT!" is going to resonate beyond the shriveled up group that is the Republican base at this point.
And I'm not typically an optimist.

Keep in mind that when Michael Steel commits a gaffe, it only appears to be a gaffe: he actually has a plan.

And oh, yeah - Michael Steele. Whatever.

I second that.
And also include Dick Cheney and his favorite Republican.

Hey, don't forget Michelle Bachman! Didn't she refer to Bill Clinton being in office in 1992? Or Bush in 2000?
Seems to be a serious flaw in the Republican madrassa curriculum.

...I think the more serious error is the "prepaid" part. Although so far as I see GOP policy is rooted in the "pay later" philosophy, rather than paying first, so it may be correct to their intention as-is.

Don't mean to get you all down, but the "card" is valid until that date. Could be when they expect the chickens to come home.
I'm sure this is a representation of our country putting everything on credit, and the bill will start to come due... when?
Surely you can find stuff dumber thatn this.

Now, now. Let's give them some credit. If John Ashcroft's intelligence cover sheets are any indication, they only discovered photoshop about half a year ago. They're still getting used to this whole "quality graphics" thing.

Rest assured that Michael Steele (or anybody in the GOP) isn't going to apologize. Nosiree. Those GOP-apologizing-days are so over.
The good news is that we're all pre-approved for the ObamaCard.
The bad news is that the card starts with $500 billion balance (the 2008 budget deficit we inherited from the Bush administration).
