Stormy Daniels Forms Exploratory Committee To Run Against Vitter In 2010
Adult film actress Stormy Daniels has officially announced that she has formed an exploratory committee for the 2010 Senate race, in which she is widely expected to run in the Republican primary against Sen. David Vitter -- the Christian right conservative whose career became mired in the D.C. Madam prostitution scandal of 2007.
"I do not take this step lightly," Daniels said in a statement. "While I have been humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response my potential candidacy has generated thus far, my decision to run for United States Senate will only be made after I have had the opportunity to discuss this prospect with as many people across the state as possible. Too many in government ignore the voices of those whom they claim to represent. I promise you that I will not."
If she does run, Daniels' campaign would be widely viewed as an effort to remind the state's conservative voters about Vitter's own indiscretions.
Full statement after the jump.
Stormy Daniels Announces Formation of Senate Exploratory CommitteeNEW ORLEANS, LA. - May 21, 2009 - Today, Stormy Daniels issued the following statement announcing the formation of a committee to explore a potential campaign for United States Senate:
Today, I am excited to announce that I am taking the next step in exploring a possible run for United States Senate. Two weeks ago, I embarked on a listening tour where I had the pleasure of hearing the thoughts and concerns of my fellow Louisianans. These conversations were highly encouraging and convinced me to officially explore the possibility of running for the United States Senate. To this end, I have formed an exploratory committee to gauge Louisianans' support for my potential candidacy.I do not take this step lightly. While I have been humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response my potential candidacy has generated thus far, my decision to run for United States Senate will only be made after I have had the opportunity to discuss this prospect with as many people across the state as possible. Too many in government ignore the voices of those whom they claim to represent. I promise you that I will not.
Forming this committee will allow me to raise the funds necessary to explore a possible run and will provide Louisianans an opportunity to continue sharing with me their concerns and ideas. I invite you to visit www.teamstormy.com and join me in taking this next important step.
In the coming months I will continue my listening tour and am eager to visit western and northern Louisiana. I look forward to discussing further the vital priorities facing our state and nation--including reforming the tax code to a system that rewards, rather than penalizes, success, protecting our children and promoting personal responsibility as an alternative to government intrusion.
We are excited by the prospect of Stormy taking up our challenge. Now we ask you to carry on the momentum by visiting Team Stormy, signing up and making a contribution today!
Thank you all for your support of the DraftStormy movement.
Sincerely,
The DraftStormy team

As hilarious as this is, and it definitely is, I'm just hoping people remember, she's running as a REPUBLICAN. For those hoping to unseat Mr. Vitter, this may get a hypocrite out of office, but a republican remains.

Not necessarily, if the Democrats come up with a viable candidate.

Is Carol Doda still alive and if so, will she move to LA?

Carol Doda is still alive and visible in SF/North Beach. She sings a bit and "sits in" with various jazz/swing oriented club bands and also owns lingerie shop.
Don't think she'd be as good a candidate as Stormy for obvious reasons.

This just in; Vitter's wife won't allow him on the same stage as Stormy.

Kinda makes you want to move to Louisiana just to vote in this election, doesn't it?

And to campaign for Stormy in the primary!
She is against kiddie porn! Doesn't that mean Vitter is *for* kiddie porn?! Are we going to let the Republicans embrace kiddie porn when they have a powerful voice (throat, set of lungs, what have you) like Stormy's instead?!

Stormy is honest, and I applaud her entry. If nothing else, it provides the opposition and the media with a non-stop story. This kind of antagonism has legs, and it's very telegenic.
If nothing else, I expect the RNC primary will become a ridiculous travesty. I hope her heart is in the right place. It's hard to tell from this angle.

It was a dark and stormy night when the boisterous rejoicing over an honest, but tawdry, porn star is universally acclaimed as being a better alternative than an ivy-league, privileged, and wealthy person awoke the whole barnyard; which made the chicken exclaim: (of course) "Wotever happened to Noblesse Oblige--or the idea that to whom much is given, much is expected?"

I predict that if they debate, she will give him a good spanking, and he will enjoy it immensely. His wife and Stormy will then run off and get married in one of them librul NE'ern states.

I could double entendre myself to damn near death on this one. Even that's kind of a crack-up.
Legs isn't all this story has.

I wouldn't worry about Stormy as a Republican.
Hey all republicans aren't bad in fact a lot of them are right but so few haven't sold out on ether side of the isle.
Personally I like true Americans that stand for truth and justices I kind like democratic ideas until they start taking corporate money.
Unlike Ron Paul
Stormy doesn't talk like a politician[say one thing and do another]she is who she is,doesn't have much to hide from us.
Who is anyone kidding porn is a 14 billion dollar a year business in America its not like we don't love our Super Bowl and our Porn kind of a American girl seems to me.
Its not like she will sell out for some congressional page or something.
Got to just love it.

Travesty? I don't think so. Unless the Republican party is not around in 2010, the Democrats will still have the work with them and I'd think she would be a great addition.
Perhaps the USA could then catch up with the powerhouses like Brazil, Thailand, Argentina, and the Netherlands which all offer reasonable public sex services unlike the lone counties in Nevada which offer the most obscenely priced legal prostution in the world.
We all know the frenzy that exists around sex offenses, sex offenders, the supposed 1 in 3 woman have been raped statistic from the completely outdated feminism movement. The solution is to resolve the sexual angst and have someone like Stormy Daniels if office.
I'm sending $25.

Can I ask tpm to correct this most certinaly accidental error. TPM claims that she would be challenging the senator in the R Primary?
On the story linked from Team Stormy's twitter page, it names Brian Welsh as her spokesman who has worked for Democratic campaigns.
It also states that Ms. Daniel's effort so far has nothing to do with the state or national party; presumably the Democratic Party, but nonetheless she has not decided on any party affiliation at this time.

Come now.
Does it matter what she runs as? She gets to choose.
That's the way it works. Unaffiliated may be best.
She originally announced or suggested she would run as a Republican, was the impression I got. I expect she will, because its the publicity she wants & its pretty funny in any event.
The hypocrisy of self-righteous moralistic Vitter gets noticed in whichever way she chooses.
When they call "moral high ground" on someone else despite being neck deep in behaviors & foibles they would accuse & denounce, they have it coming.
The Republican Party was welcoming of Palin, at least at first - just on the basis of looks & Stormy trumps Palin on looks from the tiny picture here.
To maximize her impact, I think she ought declare whatever keeps her name alive the longest in the news or entertainment cycle.
