Tomorrow: RNC Could Rename Democrats As "Democrat Socialist Party"
The Republican National Committee could potentially take a very bold, politically momentous move tomorrow. I am speaking, of course, about the upcoming vote on a resolution to declare that the Democratic Party should be renamed the "Democrat Socialist Party."
The Politico reported last week that, at least as of that writing, the resolution was expected to pass. If it does pass, it will be against the wishes of RNC Chairman Michael Steele, who had opposed bringing this vote up at all -- and would thus be something of a blow to his command of the party organization and its overall message against the Dems.
This morning, Steele appeared on Fox News and couldn't suppress his laughter at the idea when the subject came up.
"No (laughs), well I don't -- I don't know how that resolution is gonna turn out," Steele said. "We have members who have very strong passions about the direction the Administration is taking with our economy."
When Steve Doocy asked whether Steele is for or against the resolution, Steele made it clear. "No, I am not for that at all," said Steele. "And I've mentioned that to folks inside the party and said, you know, I think that we should be smart and strategic about that. But a lot of people have passions, and the beauty of the Republican Party is you get to express those passions in various ways."

How freakin' silly is this? Well, fine, if they wanna call us Socialists, then GREAT -- I'm a Socialist!
And if I wanna call them asshats, then GREAT - they're a bunch of asshats!
Idiots...

Don't you love it? I actually wouldn't mind having that socialist medicine they have in Europe! AND why don't we have the right to cap the pay of bank CEOs whose businesses we have bought!

Should we sink to their level and re-brand the GOP as the Grand Old Asshat Party, (GOAP)?

Why...yes! Yes we should!
But Steele has apparently already diffused that, judging by my read of Josh's latest blog post, dammit.
There goes ALL our fun.

The DNC must rise to the level of maturity now driving the decisions of the RNC. Accordingly, I call upon them the DNC to pass a resolution Officially Renaming the Republicans the "Big Stinky Doodyhead Party." I also strongly encourage the DNC to use the word "cooties" as many times as possible in that resolution.

I guess if I wanted to be an immature little jerk, as well, I'd say let's change the GOP to the WCL: The Whiny Crybaby Loser party.
But, I'm not gonna say that.

... unless of course those passions have to do with being pro-choice, pro-stimulus, pro-gay marriage, pro-evolution, pro-science, pro-sex, anti-Limbaugh, anti-crazy, etc in which case you need to get the hell out.

Do it! Do it!! Do it!!!
If they do, I predict that it will set a record for (negative) attention given a party resolution. They will turn off even more Republicans and independents than if they passed some polarizing-yet-substantive amendment.
DO IT!!!!

Only if the Dem's and the media allow them too...Otherwise it will be just another failed attempt to divert attention from their poor performance the past 14 years!

I wonder if they have designed an armband for us to wear too, or some other convenient insignia?

Well, I'm pretty sure the OVP was working up something involving color-coded triangles to be sewn onto all of our shirts and coats during the middle part of the Bush Administration.

Michael Steele would be thrilled if that Social Democrat resolution passed, as long as his financial-handcuffs resolution goes down. (And by goes down, I'm not speaking jive!)

While they're at it, they should also rename themselves the Whig Party.

Steele then promptly apologized for saying that Republicans were free to express their passions and that Republicans need to be smart and strategic.
"The truth is that real Republicans are neither smart nor strategic. And expressing passion is too close to expressing empathy, and you know how we feel about that. I apologize if anyone ... okay, if Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich were offended by my choice of words. Looking back on it, well I mean not looking forward, what I meant to say was exactly what Rush told me to say and that is I embrace the rebranding of the Democrat party as the Democrat-Socialist Party. And if Rush likes, we can tack on Communist-Muslim-Feminazi-"that Jew-and-Negro-loving-wetback-amnesty-giving-abortionist-Darwinist-gay-marriage-believing-business-hating-tax-and-spend party. If that's okay with Rush."

Gee I thought they already rebranded the democrat party. I didn't realize they held meetings and took votes when they did this. How 'democratic' of them... um... I meand socialist...no...um... fascist... um....communist of them...?
Ya know, we don't have meetings like that, so I am just going to go with thinking that the people involved in this exercise are 'idiots'.

Isn't it the Republican Party they need to be worrying about rebranding at this point ?!

Let me see if I understand this correctly. In comparing the ideology, policies and practices of the Democratic Party to their own ideology, policies and practices, the Republicans consider the Democrats socialist and want to so name them.
Putting this in perspective, the G.O.P. claims to speak for "the individual" when in fact they almost exclusively represent corporate interests; they practice the politics of fear, repression and endless war in the name of the state and have perverted faith to suit their agenda. So I suppose that makes the G.O.P. The Republican National Socialist Party.

The GOP had no good ideas for social security overhaul, for fixing the health care system, etc. but they can manage a vote to "rename" the Democrats. What absolute morons. No wonder they have no electorate anymore.

This must be one of them there great new ideas the republicans always talk about.
With 20% of the Americans calling themselves republican the only way republicans can get elected is to reach out to democratic voters. This renaming plan is masterful. Bravo its a stroke of pure genius

I am sooooo disappointed that this resolution failed. I was looking forward to the Republicans continuing their campaign to normalize and mainstream socialism. The more the GOP says Democrats are socialists, the more likely we might get to actually election some real socialists and the less scary socialism will be.
On the other hand, I don't want us calling this gang of thieves, thugs, hypocrites, kleptocrats and war criminals anything but Republican. I want the word Republican to be saturated with the taint of their corruption. Let's not be idiotic and weaken the brand by calling them fascist since the fascist party is not going to be running candidates. Let's make sure the Republican party is firmly identified with these republicans.

Hmmm... Elitist Always Cry Socialism!
“There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.” - Warren Buffet
1) Upper Class... Empowered!
Deregulation, Global Economy, Tax Advantages.
2) Middle Class... Distracted!
Healthcare, War-on-Terror, School Prayer, Sex Education, Abortion Rights, Gay Marriage, Immigration.
3) Lower Class... Controlled!
Minimum Wage, Entitlements, Law Enforcement.
"America wasn’t founded as a nation where winner takes all but over the last couple of decades, that’s the way it has turned out. The central vision of “We, the people” has been distorted and manipulated by the powerful and privileged doing their damnedest as they wage class war to sustain their way of life at the expense of everybody else, even in this current crisis." - Michael Winship
