Another Poll Shows South Carolinians Saying Sanford Should Resign
A new Rasmussen poll finds a plurality of South Carolina's likely voters saying that Gov. Mark Sanford should resign in the wake of his recent disappearance to Argentina and subsequent admission of an extramarital affair.
The numbers: 46% say he should resign, to 39% who say he should not. Only 40% think the legislature should impeach him if he does not resign, compared to 48% who disagree. These numbers are not much different from an InsiderAdvantage poll yesterday, which was of registered voters.
At the same time, 55% of respondents in the new poll said that Sanford is about as ethical as most politicians, with 18% saying he is more ethical than others, and 18% saying his ethics are lower than average.

O.T. sez: This guy has no intetion in the world of resigning. That's for all you good folks who quite understandably have believed he will ("He obviously can't continue as governor," etc.).
Mark me, he plans to tough it out if he can get away with it.

If his wife leaves him he may need the money.

You know, I try to be all European about politicians' personal lives, but these are the assholes who made consensual sex acts between adults a basis for trying to overturn the results of a valid election in the most powerful country in the world a few years back.
So, to hell with Sanford and all the other Elmer Gantrys that make up the Republican Party leadership. Hound them out of public life and never let them return.

It's what they trade in, you know, our Elmer Gantrys?
"You want a Congressman who will go into other people's bedrooms, rip off the sheets, and check that they are acting the way your Talibangelical preacher says they oughtta?!
Is that what really matters in life to you?
THEN VOTE FOR ME!"
When they make a joke out of that commitment (itself being ridiculous), I think you have a right to be disconcerted.

He's not going to resign. Republicans have his back. The insanely right wing citizens of SC do not appear to be particularly upset with him. Democrats are not attacking.
Make no mistake, this was to be a 10 day fling in Argentina after being thrown out by his wife. After being caught red-handed, he has successfully re-framed the incident into a confession of an ended affair and an apology. And Democrats and the media have let him.

You're right on all of this. 10 days - yep, changed his tune for TV - yep, won't resign - yep.

You know, I don't care if he left the country to get sprinkles for his ice cream, he flipping abandoned his job. I left Charleston SC about 3 months ago and Sanford should send me a thank you card for that. I'd be running petitions around the state on my bike to get him out of office for that alone.
I also hope he suffers a lot for what he has done to his wife and children.
