Dem Governors Association: "Our Thoughts And Prayers Are With Governor Sanford And His Family"

The Democratic Governors Association has released this statement on Gov. Mark Sanford's (R-SC) resignation as chairman of the Republican Governors Association:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Governor Sanford and his family, and I wish them the best as they try to heal this wound," said Nathan Daschle, executive director of the Democratic Governors Association.

... Daschle closed with the rhetorical question, "OK, who's next?"

This is a time when, "Now who wants some hot wings?" would actually have been appropriate.

And then he said "Are there any God-fearing, Christian-values Governors out there doing "the sparking thing? If so, please do have a press conference real soon".

Sanford assistant: What's that Mr. Governor, did you say Argentina tail or Appalachian trail?

Pardon me while I puke.

At least his wife didn't have to stand there by her man while he apologized for fucking her over.

That was classy.

However, the cynic in me notes that it's probably pretty easy to be gracious, given the last two weeks of the Ensign-Sanford love fest.

I was wondering how they managed to type that statement in between high-fives.

My thoughts and prayers are with Gov. Sanford's wife and kids. I really don't give a rats ass about the Governor. It seems the hypocrite finally found a stimulus package he could get behind.

Huh. A Republican possible candidate for president caught having an affair. Who could have seen that coming?

While we're at it, I don't see why Palin should be completely off the hook. A little more digging into that 'affair with hubby's business partner' story might yield some pay dirt.

So Sanford decided the weekend of father's day was the weekend to go to Argentina to break off an affair? And does it take five days to end an affair, cuz if he had done it a little faster he could have returned in time to be with his kids on father's day. It seems the mistress was worth a lot more to him than his role as father to these young boys. I don't feel at all bad for Sanford, I feel bad for the boys to have such a selfish father.

The timing is interesting, certainly. I wonder if he was tipped off that the media in SC was about to spill the beans on his affair, and he was forced to end it sooner.

What I don't get--I really don't--is why he needed at least 4 days to break off the affair. I'm impressed that he was so candid in discussing the affair--but something still isn't quite explained. I hope his sons didn't see that press conference, at the very least.

If you were giving up apple pie beginning on Monday, wouldn't you eat a whole pie on Sunday?

To be fair, we don't know for certain that he wasn't spending time with his other kids down in Argentina.
