Ensign Apologizes To Fellow GOP Senators
Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) apologized to his Republican colleagues at a caucus lunch today, the Politico reports, in the wake of his admission of an extramarital affair that took place in late 2007 and early 2008.
Sen. Dick Lugar (R-IN) said Ensign "apologized to everyone who had been hurt, indicated that he had certain deficiencies in his own character and outlook and was going to make substantial improvements."
Sen. John Thune (R-SD), who is likely to take over Ensign's former leadership position as chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee -- a post that Ensign has resigned -- said that "He basically told us that he was sorry, and he's going to continue to do his job as a senator from Nevada."

Would that be that, in his short time as a Republican Senator, he hasn't screwed nearly enough people nor been nearly wacky enough?

So why is it this guy has to issue a fulsome apology, but Diaper Dave doesn't?

Because that's how they roll in Louisiana, I guess... (that, or he read somewhere that it's now good to "reclaim your inner child").

He did, though.
Diaper Dave receives thunderous applause from Republican colleagues after heartfelt apology
They must be tired of all that applauding at this point.

I wonder how many apologies Bill Clinton gets from the jackasses who
1)impeded Clinton from acting against Bin Laden
2)felt the most important work of congress was the president's affair, instead of enacting legislation.
3)chronically blathering about the mote in Clinton's eye while simultaneously neglecting to mention that their own beam was getting extramarital action.
Hallmark should come out with a card that says "Gee, sorry for the Hypocritical Fuckheadedness in my destroying your marriage and tarnishing your legacy while simultaneously carrying out in secret the very acts I was castigating you for."

Their moral standing obviously hasn't changed any with their views on any issue.

Not so fast, Slick. First, is Ensign going to report his extortionists to the FBI? Or has he officially retracted that bullshit story (It's so hard to keep up with chronic liars)? Did he remark to you guys what an amazing coincidence it was that the people who were in a position to potentially ruin his career and expose him for the monumental hypocrite that he is got jobs for themselves and their 19 year old kid with firms that are run by Ensign's close friends and the NRSC? I'm guessing no. Apart from the blubbering apologies, I doubt that little of substance came up at the GOP senatorial confab.
I don't care that it affects the GOP's ability to obstruct meaningful legislation. That's tough shit. If you guys lose your 41st vote because some idiot couldn't keep his dick in his pants, that's your problem. Just because losing him fucks you up politically, it doesn't mean you have the right to keep him in the Senate. Ensign needs to resign right now!
