Epstein: 'Diversity Can Be Good In Moderation' As Long As 'Trends Do Not Overwhelm The Dominant Culture'
Earlier this year, a New York Times editorial blasted Marcus Epstein for a report he authored as executive director of The American Cause, arguing that Republicans ought to embrace anti-immigration extremism if they still dream of an eventual renaissance.
In the course of their digging, the Times editors came across an online archive of Epstein's writings which contain gems like:
"Diversity can be good in moderation -- if what is being brought in is desirable. Most Americans don't mind a little ethnic food, some Asian math whizzes, or a few Mariachi dancers -- as long as these trends do not overwhelm the dominant culture."
There's much, much more, if you care to browse.
Here, for instance, is a long defense of the infamous Ron Paul Letters, complete with a sideways defense of the Los Angeles police officers who pummeled Rodney King. And here is a remembrance for paleocon Sam Francis who once said whites must "reassert our identity and our solidarity, and we must do so in explicitly racial terms through the articulation of a racial consciousness as whites . . . . The civilization that we as whites created in Europe and America could not have developed apart from the genetic endowments of the creating people, nor is there any reason to believe that the civilization can be successfully transmitted to a different people." And here is a piece supposedly slaying the "Myths of Martin Luther King"
Epstein took issue with the Times op-ed for attributing "white supremacist" views to him and insisted that their cries of racism were off base. Two years before that, he drunkenly karate chopped a pedestrian in Georgetown and called her a "nigger."
He now works for both Tom Tancredo's Team America PAC and Pat and Bay Buchanan's The American Cause, each of which have called Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor a racist. On his Facebook page Epstein lists Taki's Magazine as one of his favorite publications. It's owned by Taki Theodoracopulos--a self-described anti-semite.

Why isn't MSNBC feeling some heat for their connections to Epstein via the Buchanans?

Why isn't MSNBC feeling some heat for their connections to the Buchannans???? Pat Buchannan is every bit as bad as Epstein.
Did you read that column he wrote after Obama's race speech in which he said black folks should be grateful for the food stamps and welfare they've received from the government. A few hundred years of slavery is nothing compared to that.
It was his idea to have Reagan launch his presidential campaign from Philadelphia, MS (site of murder of 3 civil rights workers) to talk about states rights.

Hey, he's not a white supremicist. He's a black inferiorist. Totally not the same thing.

Pat Buchannan, Rush Limbaugh & Sean Hannity are living rebuttals of white supremacy.

No surprise that he works for the racist Pat Buchanan. But why is an open supremist working as an aide in Congress?
June 1, 2009 2:50 PM | Reply | Permalink
he is executive director of former representative tancredo's team america pac. don't see how that translates to 'aide in congress', present tense.
but beyond that, he's no more an 'open supremist' than any number of current members of congress so i'm not sure i get your question.

Buchanan needs to be called on this, on the air, on MSNBC. (Preferably by Rachel Maddow, assuming she even speaks to him anymore after last week's bit of racism.)
After he defends this kid's obvious racism - which he will inevitably do with some roundabout, national-purity argument - that should then become his last on-air appearance.
(Even better person to call him on this: Lawrence O'Donnell. That guy needs a show.)

That guy had a show. West Wing. Brilliant from start to finish.

This piece of work is being admitted to Virginia Law!?
His alleged hate crime arrest by the secret service yet was 7/07 and his guilty plea sentencing is 7/8/9! (yep we need BETTER lawyers if it takes 2 years to bring THAT to sentencing, but not this guy).
Let Virginia Law know what you think about that? Admissions, then Alumni.

sorry. can't help the snark. asking for links supporting references to obscure bits of info or data is one thing but the info is everywhere. i googled 'marcus epstein' this morning and in ten minutes already knew more than what tpm's been 'reporting' all day.

Fair enough. Most the links I found had this information in the comments section. Turns out our champ had a linkedin profile. Here's the cached version (http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:9yypc3UbbBYJ:www.linkedin.com/in/marcusepstein+marcusepstein.com+university+virginia&cd=5&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us)
I guess it makes sense. UVA was also Macaca Allen's law school, right?

and then: brian/tpm get it from uva that epstein will NOT be attending after all... (go figure!)

Good point. Every now and then I venture out and eat something ethnic-like a bagel or or some Korean barbecue--but then make for it up by eating extra helpings of tuna casserole and lime Jello with marshmallows and carrots. I was going to say macaroni and cheese, but macaroni sounds kind of ethnic, too, doesn't it?

Good point. I'm Asian, so I think it would probably be ok for me to use some kung fu to kick Epstein's ass so long as I play some football afterwards. Right?
June 1, 2009 3:42 PM | Reply | Permalink
Exactly. You can kick Epstein's ass, but not the entire dominant culture's ass. Moderation, you know. Also, football would be good, or baseball, but not anything like lacrosse (American, but Native American), or soccer, which would be a violation of the Alien and Sedition Act.

If this clown did indeed make it into UVA, I'll remember not believe any of their bull about looking at "the person behind the numbers." Sheesh.
Then again, maybe he's a diversity admit - every law school needs a few raging racists, right?

I'm always amazed at the shortsightedness of bigoted Jews (or Blacks or Asians — Hello, Michelle Malkin!). Don't they realize that treating racism as acceptable puts them and their loved ones in the sights of other bigots? It's like fanning a wildfire and forgetting your own home is made of wood, too. Idiots.
"The civilization that we as whites created in Europe and America…" is the SAME "civilization" that tried to wipe out his ancestors. Bizarre. Just bizarre.

Wow. on Vdare.com (named for the first British baby born on American soil) you can read vomit educing articles like this one "Race Differences, Immigration, And The Twilight of the European Peoples".
This on nicely states as it's goal: "I want to examine the changing nature of Britishness resulting from the immigration non-Europeans, particularly in the light of IQ differences between immigrants and the native white population. My approach differs from current debates about immigration which are normally concentrated on whether it is good or bad for Britain, and whether we need more of it or less, and not on the quality of the immigrants or their racial identity."
Mr. Epstein sure fits right in there. We really need to push on MSNBC to dump Pat Buchanan now. We can't just let "Pat be Pat" any longer.

Morcilla
Directions
Make a pot of white rice a lo Rican, but omit the oil.
Add the pork blood, salt, cilantro, chili peppers, and garlic.
Mix everything well.
Stuff the sausage casing by inserting a funnel but do not squeeze the stuffing or the sausage casings.
The casings should be a little loose and not tight.
Boil the morcilla in salted water for about 25-30 minutes.
After 25-30 minutes, drain the water from the sausage. (Morcilla)
Now you can either fry it or you can freeze it after it cools down for later use.
When you are ready to eat the morcilla, cut it in small pieces and fry it in vegetable oil on moderate heat setting until golden.
Drain the morcilla on paper towels and let it cool before you bite into it.
¡¡¡Ay que ricas!!!

But ITALIAN food, now that's not ethnic at all, Senator Tancredo. I didn't mean food like YOUR Mama used to make. Or mine either, for that matter. Latkes? Gefilte fish? Those are just part of the "dominant culture."
Jerk.

My best guess is the pudgy little Epstein suffers from the same identity complex as Michelle Malkin. Epstein believes he can highlight his "Americanness," indeed his "whiteness" (at least half whiteness), and mask his "otherness" by striking out at those who mirror his otherness. Like Malkin, Epstein thinks that being a nativist will erase from people's minds the fact that their otherness is obvious to the eye. It's a smoke and mirrors attempt to persuade other nativists not to look at the object of their otherness, i.e. their skin color, facial features, etc, by turning up the racist rhetoric. Epstein and Malkin scream, "Look, I don't like brown people so I'm as nativist as you! Like me, please, like me!"
