Gingrich Walks Back Calling Sotomayor A Racist -- Not
In a sign that the Republican Party's right wing could now be attempting to walk back the over-the-top rhetoric that has been used against Sonia Sotomayor, Newt Gingrich has put up a new post on his Web site saying he shouldn't have called her a racist -- and then proceeds to go into detail about how she's a racist!
"The word 'racist' should not have been applied to Judge Sotomayor as a person," Gingrich says, "even if her words themselves are unacceptable (a fact which both President Obama and his Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, have since admitted)."
Then he goes into all sorts of details about the "wise Latina" comment, the intricacies of the New Haven firefighters case, and other objections he has to Sotomayor. At each juncture, he borrows a line from Fox News: "You Read, You Decide."
"The stakes are very high with this nomination," Gingrich concludes. "Has President Obama nominated a conventionally liberal judge to a lifetime tenure on our highest court? Or a radical liberal activist who will cast aside the rule of law in favor of the narrow, divisive politics of race and gender identity?"
So he shouldn't have called Sotomayor a racist -- he's just saying she makes her legal decisions based on race!

We need to redefine the words integrity and ethics in this nation, since they were discarded a long time ago as any measure of a politician.
These clowns nowdays will say and do ANYTHING to remain in the spotlight so they can continue to dominate the common, hard working folks in this country...
The saddest part of this fiasco is that it seems to be working. They can say something one day, completely change their mind the next... and THEIR team will not even skip a beat to support them.
Too bad the Simpsons continues to rate higher than the news. I guess as long as our rulers continue to allow us to watch junk TV and feed us pablum, we will go down in ruin without a struggle....

Again...the GOP is desperate to walk back the BS and somehow enable its elected leaders to regain control of a nomination process they cannot stop and now only hope to limit further damage to the "brand"
That's what Leahy's line in the dirt and Sessions plea for extra time are all about

Newt Gingrich is a pasty, bloated hypocrite that little children should fear as a pedophile.
Wait, I spoke too hastily. What I meant was that if Newt was a pedophile, then little children would fear his pasty bloatedness. That should settle things.

It's interesting that Gingrich didn't do what Jeff Sessions insisted that Sotomayor do: apologize for using incindiary language. Well, at least hypocrisy is a consistent trait in the GOP.

I believe it was Lindsey Graham, not Sessions, who demanded the apology from Sotomayor.

I think you're right. Still, I don't expect that Graham will demand an apology from the Neutered Gingrich.

Is it just me, or has Newt excluded himself from the group who want "an open and honest consideration" of the President's choice for the Supreme Court?

"We understand that the job of a justice is to enforce the law" - Newt's "maybe a retraction" blog
Of course that premise is false, he's telling a lie.
"This Spring I taught a course at the University of Georgia School of Law on the proper role of the judiciary in interpreting the Constitution"
How can someone who is a teacher of the Constitution lie so glibly about Constitutional justice?
