Graham: Republicans Have The Leverage To Delay Sotomayor Confirmation
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) appeared on Fox News this afternoon to discuss Sonia Sotomayor and the time frame for her confirmation hearings.
Two things to take away from his appearance. First, he said Republicans don't intend to obstruct her nomination. Second, he said Republicans have enough clout to at least delay her ultimate confirmation. Time will tell how Republicans actually respond, but just because Republicans probably won't filibuster Sotomayor doesn't mean they won't drag the process along, raising money and attacking the nominee along the way.

I'm sure they'll talk, a lot, about how they need more time, etc, but if they start boycotting the confirmation hearings? There isn't an upside to that. At least, not a long term upside. Short term, perhaps.
But it will just be portrayed as Republicans don't like the Latina.

Well, they've shut down the wingnuttery (actually Sotomayor and Obama did they just don't know it) so the GOP "Leaders" are back in control of an inevitable process, doing what they always planned to do before Limbaugh and Gingrich rang the dinner bell in the nut house

I'm not smart like Lindsey Graham. What the hell is the upside for them in doing this that outweights the harm they're doing themselves with Latino voters, moderate women, etc?

Brian, Brian, Brian....
You and other like folk in the media are paying much more attention to the Republicans in Congress than you really should. All you are doing is helping them get noticed and to raise money.
Stories with a lot more meat would be appreciated. I will no longer be clicking on absurd stories about the Republican do-nothings in the Senate.

So how's he going to delay the Sotomayor confirmation if he's shut down the senate over torture photos? :P

Mr. Graham and his Republican cohort MAY have the leverage the headline claims, but if the Democrats, who own the Senate, House and White House find some backbone, I'm sure they have the leverage to our lever the Republican's leverage

I'm confused. They don't intend to obstruct the nomination, just delay it. And the difference would be....?

mans,
the Republicans have to do something, anything, regardless of how asinine or self-defeating, in order to show they aren't irrelevant.

Not a lot of coherence, is there?
But hey, CNN told me, on their chryon, that Palin "stole the show".
They didn't mention which show that was, though.

Sotomayor will be confirmed regardless of what the GOP do. As far as the fundraising, it is at a all time low. They raised $14 million at their dinner the other night, but that was way down. You have to go back five years to see the GOP fndraising at this low point.
The GOP only have one game plan: everything obama suggest is going to be met with GOP whining, complaining, lying, scare tactics and grandstanding.

Fuck 'em. Call their bluff. Give them enough rope to hang themselves. The Dems need to grow some goddamn backbone. Without a doubt.

When Lindsey says, we've got clout, what he is really saying is, we've got several Democrats in our back pocket that will help us drag this nomination through the mud!
