Hoekstra Spokesman: He Wasn't Comparing Iranian Demonstrators To House Republicans -- Though They Are Similar
Here's a fun epilogue to Rep. Pete Hoekstra's (R-MI) phenomenally entertaining Twitter post yesterday, in which he said, "Iranian twitter activity similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut down in the House."
The statement generated lot of ridicule in the blogosphere, and some really funny jokes in the Twitter community.
Yesterday afternoon, Hoekstra's spokesman gave this statement to CNN:
"Congressman Hoekstra did not compare the ongoing violence in Iran to when Democrats shut down the House chamber during the energy debate last summer," said spokesman Dave Yonkman. "The two situations do share the similarity of government leadership attempting to limit debate and deliberation, and the ability of new technologies to bypass their efforts and allow for direct communication. That's the only point that he was trying to make."

He's claiming that the GOP couldn't get their message out of the House chamber, so they had to use Twitter to speak to the free world? What Bizzaro world do these people inhabit?!?

What Bizarro world do the Republicans inhabit? A one in which they have to be accountable for what they say and do. It's a big shift from the last eight years. Good thing they don't get that yet; I need a good laugh on a hectic Thursday morning.

I read a public statement by a Republican the other day. Now I know what it's like to be Alex DeLarge who was strapped into a strait jacket and forced to watch violent movies in A Clockwork Orange.

They just don't seem to be able to adapt to a world where not all of their BS is accepted. MSM still swallows most of it, but with the rise of TPM and others much more of it is being called out for what it is.
Nice job holding your own on the Colbert Report Josh. Interesting to see if you get a bounce in hits to the site.

hoekstra is michigan's bachman. almost as crazy and almost as stupid. but just as much of an embarassment.
biggest difference: hoekstra has bucketfuls of seniority over bachman.

I was going to say no, he isn't, but on reflection, maybe he is. Not as stupid, but pretty crazy. But if Alan Cropsey ever makes it to the House, move over Hoekstra!

I love how even when these bungholes admit they are wrong about something, they still hold this passive-aggressive position that they were actually right. Kinda like a 3-year old.

Kinda like a "stupid" 3-year old . . . . apologies to any 3-year olds that may be reading this.

Yes, yes; masters of the non-apology tautology. You know; Hoekstra wasn't comparing, he was just saying how the situations were similar, or maybe correlating... no, no, just juxtaposing, but definitely NOT comparing.

No, clearly he was not comparing or juxtaposing, or contrasting or correlating. He was, well he was pointing out the slight similarity between the two situations to demonstrate that they are slightly less different than, say, dolphins and parking meters.

"the ability of new technologies to bypass their efforts and allow for direct communication."
Uh, I wasn't aware FOX News was a new technology.

Ya know, there are similarities in this situation for the Republicans. Their party is run by mullahs and now they are out of power. End of story.
That said, I'd give $10 to watch Nancy Pelosi on a motor-scooter cruising around the Capitol hitting Republicans in the head with a rubber baton. I'm down.

When the motion on this question is called, you can count on my vote. Which is kind of like you being the Majority Whip of the House of Representatives...

The GOP are oppressed? In what way?
1. Do they have to park their cars a mile away?
2. Do they have to use the dowstairs bathroom instead of the upstairs bathrooms?
3. Are they driving GM cars instead of BMW's or Mercedes (ouch!)
4. Do they have to queque behind the Dems for time with Obama?
Hmmmmm? Is this oppression? I think not?
