Inhofe Turns Down Meeting With Sotomayor -- Mind Already Made Up

It may be saying something that of the two Senators from Oklahoma, Tom Coburn is the calm and open-minded one.

The Oklahoman reports that Coburn met yesterday with Sonia Sotomayor, and walked away form the meeting with an apparent friendly attitude, describing her as "a bright lady, very smart and well-coached." He added: "She's got the demeanor of a judge."

Coburn's co-Senator Jim Inhofe, meanwhile, turned down an invitation to meet with Sotomayor -- on the grounds that his mind is already made up to vote against her. "That was a foregone conclusion," Inhofe told the Tulsa World, noting that he'd already voted against her for the appeals court back in 1998. However, he also predicts that she will be "definitely confirmed."

Wow! That's just shockingly stupid! Isn't their one criticism of Judge Sotomayor (well, the one that isn't essentially the cleaned up version of "THEM MEXICANS... THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!!!) that she's predisposed toward making decisions based upon her gender and ethnicity without consideration of the facts at hand? Isn't that at the heart of their opposition (well, setting aside the fact that racism and sexism is at the heart of their opposition). Senator Inhofe, I'm confused... in so many ways, according to your own world view, she's just like you!

user-pic

Projection. It's the GOOPer way of life.

user-pic

Goobers On Parade.

user-pic

And still the champ!

Despite fierce competition to be The Nation's Worst Senator, competition ever more heated since Obama's election, Jim Imhofe continues to dominate.

As Imhofe explained on Late Night with David Letterman "I'll do whatever it takes to keep my crown. Those other guys can't come close to my imagination and audacity." A spokesman for Imhofe later clarified that Imhofe meant to included women Senators in "those other guys."

user-pic

I heard something entirely different. Didn't inhofe say my denseness and stupidity instead of imagination and audacity?

user-pic

Well, I've already made up my mind that Inhofe is a blithering idiot and a jerk on top of that. So I guess in some odd way we're even.

user-pic

heh heh, the scales are now in balance.

user-pic

He's made up his mind. She doesn't fit his narrow criteria, she's been nominated by a President of the Enemy Party, so he's not interested in learning anything.
Don't get in the way of him being stupid.
Okies- do you REALLY want this guy representing you?

user-pic

He's from Okiehomo. He's a hick.

user-pic

"When Judge Sotomayor entered the room, Senator Imhofe dropped to the floor, closed his eyes real, real tight, stuck his fingers in his ears and said, "LA LA LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEEEEAAAR YOU!!"

The vote for confirmation was approved over his objections.

user-pic

Wow, that's like a dictionary definition of "prejudice", isn't it?

user-pic

Inhofe is too busy working on issues that matter...to wingnuts. Y'know, gay marriage, illegal immigrants, Obama's birth certificate, and denying global warming.

user-pic

Asshole.

user-pic

Inhofe is a douchebag and a TOTAL embarassment to my state!

user-pic

Well then I'm not meeting with her either.

user-pic

His parents must be so proud.

I don't care if he intends to support her or not, it's simply rude.

Crasshole.

user-pic

Really - you mean this guy has a mind to make-up - I'm astonished. This guy has been eating so much gas and oil dollars for his reeeeeeelection campaigns that he has blown the gasket that has kept his mind sealed, and he spews political pollution where ever
he goes. Obama said it correctly when he described the health care opposers as robots speaking to themselves in their echo chamber. Always anti and never pro - the republican motto!

user-pic

Maybe they're trying to recruit the PUNKROCK vote as well as the HIPHOP vote, but all they end up with is... the SOAP RADIO crowd.

user-pic

Mr Dick with a capital D!

user-pic

Makes me glad I have nothing to do with a party or political philosophy that celebrates ignorance, entitlement and prejudice.

user-pic

Maybe he's refusing on ethical grounds, like those men who refuse to be alone in a room with a woman because...because...well, I'm not sure why. Ask Rick Warren and Pat Robertson.

user-pic

Wow, Senator Inhofe is really easily scared, isn't he?

user-pic

Anyone want to take bets on how long it will take before a day passes when a member of the Republican party doesn't do or say something so outrageous that you find yourself scratching your head and wondering how you can be from the same planet as this person? And Coburn is not completely off the hook. I'd bet good money that "well-coached" was meant to be a backhanded compliment.

user-pic

Yup, my take on "well-coached" also.

user-pic

I bet Sen. Ensign would meet with her!

user-pic

This is a totally un-PC and rude thing to say, but I've always had the impression that Inhofe is a closet case. His hard-core conservative stances may jibe with his voters, but they also smack of overcompensation.

user-pic

Imagine you are an oil executive. You have "raised" (spent?) hundreds of thousands on campaign contributions for the ever reliable Senator Imhofe. Imagine that you are smart enough to realize that some day you might have a real case in front of the U.S. Supreme Court and that case could be worth billions. Today you read in the Journal that Inhofe has gone out of his way to dis Sotomayor, announcing that his tiny little mind is already made up so he can afford to be rude to her. Imagine you realize that everybody, including Sotomayor, will connect your company to Inhofe. I don't know about you, but my first move would be to call my K-Street lobbyists with instructions to distance my company from that rube.

user-pic

Jerk. He is just bat sh*t nuts.

user-pic

As we say in our family, my mind's made up, don't confuse me with the facts!

user-pic

Great manners for a class gentleman to decline a simple meet and greet. I think the Senator was afraid he might actually like Judge Sotomajor.

user-pic

Typical NO CLASS repub Okie!!!

I Saw hundreds when growing up in that State...So glad to have been able to leave!

Coburn's co-Senator Jim Inhofe, meanwhile, turned down an invitation to meet with Sotomayor -- on the grounds that his mind is already made up to vote against her.

At least he's consistent. He's already made up his mind that human-induced climate change doesn't exist.
