Klobuchar: Minn. Senate Race Will Be Over By July 4 -- Or "I'll Just Be Mad"
Sen Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), who has been the only Senator from Minnesota for the last five and a half months, is now predicting that the heavily-litigated Senate race between Al Franken and Norm Coleman will be over by July 4 -- or she'll be mad.
"I have predicted the 4th of July, when the corn is knee high on the 4th of July," Klobuchar told Minnesota Public Radio. "I've already predicted that it would be done when the ice melted on Lake Minnetonka. That was incorrect. And I've now predicted the 4th of July. And if that is incorrect I will make no more predictions. I'll just be mad."

Sen. Cornyn threatens "World War III" if Al Franken is seated.
Sen. Klobuchar says she'll "just be mad" if Coleman is able to continue delaying the outcome.
Quite a contrast. Does anyone really appreciate the Democrats' unilateral disarmament? Why is it that observing decorum only matters to one party and not the other?
I hope when Al finally does get in the Senate that he doesn't tiptoe around the Republicans the way all of the other Democrats do. He doesn't have to be rude or mean. He just needs to be straightforward and say what needs to be said. Al's a pretty sharp guy. I'm sure he can find a polite way to point out that someone is being a lying, hypocritical jerk.

Cornyn made that blowhard threat months ago but isn't saying anything even remotely close to that now. He was the yapping dog that didn't bite.
Klobuchar is just joking. Why should she or any Democrat be foaming at the mouth when it's clear we've won?

You'd have to know Amy to appreciate the joke, or at least be familiar with her.
She's pretty diminutive, with that nice high voice and cute smile... and so I can just hear her starting out like she was going to make a threat and then trail off with "I'll just be mad".
OTOH, people underestimate Amy at their own risk. Amy Klobuchar saying "I'll just be mad" might be like Don Corleone saying "I'm gonna make you an offer you cannot refuse."

You got that right about misunderestimating Amy. Mark Kenneday, formerly known as "The Dragon Slayer," found that out the hard way. >:-)

This would be "universal healthcare is unrealistic", Amy. This would be the Amy whose staff answers "I'm not sure" when you call to ask her current position on healthcare. This would be the Amy who sticks out her neck far enough to say that she wants "more" Minnesotans to have heathcare.
I don't like Lieberman but at least I know what Lieberman is for and what Lieberman is against. With Amy, it's all about what is good for Amy today. Stay tuned. You never know what that will be tomorrow.
I'm mad Amy was elected. I chose to vote against her when she told us "universal healthcare is unrealistic". I have not had reason to second guess my vote.

I love Amy Klobuchar!

If you love Senator Klobuchar, call her and ask her to support a strong public option for healthcare. She is sitting on that fence right now and needs a push. 202-224-3244

I do know her. She's a nice person. She does some great work, but she's got a bit of blue-doggishness in her. I realize she's got the entire state as her constituency and the views vary from one side of the state to the other, but at some point you need to lead public opinion instead of being led by it.
My point is about the two parties in general. Tell me you have the utmost confidence in the Senate Democrats backing Obama on the healthcare plan. Or on energy. Or on EFCA. I don't.

Like it or not, Democrats do not march in lock-step the way Republicans do and never have. They have a wide range of ideologies and are prone to arguing amongst themselves. Things might be messier, but on balance it's a GOOD thing.

Not if they blow our only chance for health care reform.

Prediction #1: Some form of health care reform will get done.
Prediction #2: Every liberal group there is will moan and complain about having too much of this or too little of that (i.e. it's not perfect from their narrow point of view).
The Republicans serve far fewer masters, which makes their job much easier.

On a Democratic scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the bluest of blue dogs and 10 being the purest of progressives, I'm a 5. I work with the party. I'm very much a part of it. But, I can only take so much of this back-sliding and back-pedaling and backroom deals with corporate interests.
If a Democratic senator would rather make deals with insurance companies to ensure a steady flow of campaign cash than serve their constituents, many of whom are suffering immensely, then could they at least be up front about it and say that they've made that choice?
This isn't a game. I just have to wonder sometimes why the hell some of these Democrats ran for election in the first place. I know why the Republicans did. That's no mystery. It's a business deal for them. But, I tend to think of the Democrats as actually wanting to help people who really need help. If they can't take their seat in the Senate without getting all soft and squishy or getting sucked in by the lobbyists, I just wish they wouldn't go there in the first place.

An initiative of this magnitude will inevitably require compromises. Just like the stimulus bill, there will be something for everybody to dislike. Face it, it might start out as steak, but it's going to come out as sausage. As long as the final result is nutritious and not too high in fat, I can live with that.

Prediction 3: no matter what they do, the Republicans will equate it with Stalin collectivizing the farms and slaughtering the Kulaks. Most likely while simultaneously drawing a comparison to something they say Hitler did.

She has more than a little blue dog in her as does Claire McCaskill.
Why are these folks so damned scared of being just a dem and not a blue dog dem

I get what people say about underestimating her, but I mean, the comment seems to imply that she's not mad now.
