Lieberman: We Have A Responsibility To Our Troops...Unless My Amendment Gets Stripped
I noted last night that Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) are threatening to grind Senate business to a halt--and even filibuster the war spending bill--if the amendment they authored (which would allow the White House to suppress detainee abuse photos) doesn't become law post haste.
Whatever you think about the photos, or the wars, or the emergency supplemental bills, though, you've got to marvel at Joe Lieberman circa 2007:
We in this chamber have a responsibility to make certain that-no matter what our disagreements and differences here in Washington-our men and women in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan are not caught in the political crossfire.

Could someone please explain to me, using small words so I don't miss anything, just what the Democratic leadership have gained by sucking up to this asshat?
I just haven't seen an upside to it over the last six months.

I really don't think they thought they were going to gain anything. It's just the chuminess of the good ol boys and girls club that is the U.S. Senate. Once you get in, you're assumed to have the seat as long as you want it.
See: Arlen Specter. He switched parties and now they are all falling over themselves to help him keep his seat. Their good buddy switched sides so now they'll go to the mat for him. One of my minor disappointments with Obama is that he's playing along even though he was only a member of that club for 4 years.

Way to support our troops there, Joe.
Hoestly, why not do something adult like hold your breath until you get what you want.
