Limbaugh On The Sanford Affair: It's Obama's Fault!

On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh offered his own explanation for the Mark Sanford scandal: That Sanford flew out of the country to have an affair because President Obama drove him over the edge:

"This is almost like, 'I don't give a damn, the country's going to Hell in a handbasket, I just want out of here,'" said Limbaugh. "He had just tried to fight the stimulus money coming to South Carolina. He didn't want any part of it. He lost the battle. He said, 'What the Hell. I mean, I'm -- the federal government's taking over -- what the Hell, I want to enjoy life.'"

"The point is," he added, "there are a lot of people whose spirit is just -- they're fed up, saying to Hell with it, I don't even want to fight this anymore, I just want to get away from it."

A year ago when he started bopping her, Obama was a Senator and Sanford was eyeing the VP slot next to McCain.

Why waste electrons printing what Rush says on his show.

user-pic

"A year ago when he started bopping her, Obama was a Senator and Sanford was eyeing the VP slot next to McCain."

Also, Dubya was in the White House and things really were going to hell in a handbasket. So I guess Rush was right after all. Sorta.

user-pic

That's the really crazy thing. The guy's under consideration for the VP slot and he's doing the horizontal tango with a foreign citizen?

Wow.

user-pic

O ye of little faith! Do you seriously doubt the ability of The One to travel backwards in time?

Actually I am a Psych nurse with many years of working with really troubled patients. Frankly, I am beginning to worry about Limbaugh. He seems to be allowing himself to get further and further out of control. Aside from that, his ability to think straight seems to be very much at risk. Poor thing needs our compassion since he seems tpo be coming unglued these days. No doubt, it is being out of the loop so far these days. Someone with his gigantic ego surely seems unable to take the fact that he is becoming so irrelevant. I almost feel sorry for the guy. He is to be pitted.

user-pic

Holy douchebags... this is gold.

user-pic

Argentina is the new Canada!

user-pic

So what's Limbaugh waiting for?
He doesn't want to be here, I guess; most of us don't want him here. Why doesn't he head off to Antarctica or somewhere where he won't have to worry about creeping islamo-facist-socialist-nazi-marxist-leninist-Obamaism?
And as a bonus, it's cold down there, so he can keep railing to nobody about how that "proves" the climate isn't changing.

user-pic

I was just coming here to say the same thing: Rush, honey, you look tired. Here's a ticket to a remote island where you can get away from it all. When you want a ride home, just pick up the special Batphone. Off you go now. You scumbag.

user-pic

Naw, he's stayin' for two reasons: he makes good money here and he scores good drugs here. Of course, hookers stay in the business for the same reasons. Although without the, y'know, hypocrisy.

user-pic

Guatanamo style issue. What other nation would allow him on their soil?

user-pic

he's such a disingenuous turd

user-pic

I wonder, does Rush come up with all his blather on his own or does he have a stable of writers? Cause if it's all him, he is probably certifiably insane.

user-pic

Makes about as much sense as blaming gay marriage for high divorce rates.

user-pic

Close, blame gays for high school pregnancy rates!

user-pic

Fits the Republican pattern though.
Bitch about it, and blame someone else for the problems you create.

Nothing new here.

user-pic

No, gay marriage is the reason we invaded Iraq.

user-pic

Gay marriage is giving me athlete's foot.

user-pic

Gay marriage turned me into a newt.

I got better...

user-pic

Geez, it's getting so tough to defend the Republicans anymore, Rush is just phoning it in. This is so weak, sloppy, dumb--what's the point? Playing to a base that's so desperate to hear something bad about Obama since they can't find anything good about their own party? So detached from reality that they could actually make themselves believe that Rush is making sense with this crap?

This stuff is just embarrassingly pathetic now.

"The point is," he added, "there are a lot of people whose spirit is just -- they're fed up, saying to Hell with it, I don't even want to fight this anymore, I just want to get away from it."

That sounds like a good plan for you and your dittoheads, Rush. Go for it.

user-pic
"The point is, there are a lot of people whose spirit is just -- they're fed up, saying to Hell with it, I don't even want to fight this anymore, I just want to get away from it."

America. Love it or leave it. Next plane to Argentina now boarding.

user-pic

they will all have to get passports first.

user-pic

Ohh oohh...does this mean Rush is gonna leave too?

user-pic

The stoopid. It burns.

Um, Rush? The affair started sparkin' a year ago. When your hero was in office.

In any event, if Rush wants to pull Obama, with his obvious love for his wife and girls into this, I say: go for it. Makes Republicans look even worse.

user-pic

Co-sign. Give him a microphone every chance you get.

user-pic

Hey Rushbo.... love it or leave it.

user-pic

it's also obama's fault that rush is morbidly obese...

user-pic

I'm sending Limbaugh twinkies. You know, he probably feels bad about the country too and the hell with it - he may as well just eat more sugar, fat, salt and food just to try and do something to make himself feel better. When he dies because he is so overwieght it will be all Obama's fault right?

user-pic

Plus, Twinkies worked as a defense for Dan White for the murder of Harvey Milk.

user-pic

Just a matter of days until he's blaming the prostate problems and ear hair of aging Republican white guys on Obama.

user-pic

Did he really mean to suggest that a GOP politician sought refuge in Argentina based on his political beliefs?

Isn't that a self-inflicted Godwin violation?

user-pic

Can I curse here? Please indulge me this one time:

Bullshit.

user-pic

C'mon you can do better than that.

user-pic

Limbaugh:
Mr. IOKIYAR

user-pic

Can I curse here? Please indulge me this one time:

Bullshit.

user-pic

That was twice. Foul! :)

user-pic

Rush is pretty large, so twice might not cover it.

user-pic

Yeah, sorry 'bout that! I had internet connection issues!

user-pic

That's fine, Rush...keep talking your crap. Your crazy base loves it!!!

But the vast majority of American citizens WON'T buy into this argument.

Keep shooting holes into the bottom of your boat.

user-pic

Quite understandably, some Democrats said they'd leave for Canada if W. were reelected in 2004. In the end, few did.

GOPpers are different. Rushbo may claim that Sanford is leaving in despair, but it won't be the start of a trend. A more likely reaction from Repubs will be a growth in militias and a continuing rise in gun sales. Why should they leave when they can use force drive out all us peacenik, pro-gun control, soft-headed, softhearted libruls. Force is, after all, the preferred Republican response.

user-pic

Rush just invented the perfect excuse for everything.

user-pic

We really need to fan the flames on this one. "To Hell with it . . ." should be plastered on billboards, bumper stickers, coffee mugs--anywhere that gets public exposure. Let Limbaugh be known as the man who pulled the cork on his own dinghy.

user-pic

Put it on tea bags.

user-pic

I know you meant "dinghy" but "thingy" works, too. Oh ... wait, that was O'Reilly.

user-pic

Sooo, I guess Limbaugh knows a lot about going overseas for "enjoyment".

user-pic

I was going to say something similar. Wasn't Little Georgie in office at the time?

user-pic

Rush knows a thing or two about leaving the country to avail himself of some ... hiking.

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0706062rush1.html

It remains unclear whether, like Limbaugh, the Luv Guv requires a prescription to erect his tent.

user-pic

Damn you. Now I have to clean the coffee off of my keyboard and monitor.

user-pic

This is what's become of the Party of Abe Lincoln, the Party of Teddy Roosevelt??? I mean, damn, even the Party of Eisenhower would be a huge improvement on this!

user-pic

Are you kidding? Republicans haven't improved on Eisenhower in the 48 years since he left office. If Ike had been born fifty years later, Jim Webb would look like a neocon pansy next to him.

user-pic

RUSH!

Jerry Falwell took the honorable way out. It's time, my friend, it's time. Just lay down next to your desk. Someone will be along in an hour or so.

user-pic

A massive stroke on the air followed by aphasia would be karma for all the lies he tells.

user-pic

Heh. Sad.

I dig the picture of ravin' rush-bo that's on the front page right now. Please TPM, make that the new default Limp-baugh picture.

It's up there with the now-classic 'Palin biting her tongue' picture....

user-pic

Yeah, that's why he left his family, Rush. Sound theory.

user-pic

That's a great point. Rush apparently thinks it's acceptable for someone who's fed up with their job to up and leave his family mired in the same bad situation. Wow. It's ok to abandon your family when you're having a tough time dealing with things.

Family Values (tm)!

user-pic

Don't forget Personal Responsibility(tm)!

Of course, Rush has never had a successful marriage/relationship himself, so it's easy for him to imagine chucking it in a fit of rage.

user-pic

I would like to suggest that Limbaugh run off to Argentina with Michelle Bachmann to live happily (and insanely) ever after. Now THERE's a match made in Republican heaven! Rubber room for two!

user-pic

Actually I like the "Somalia" idea - no government + everybody has guns and can shoot whoever the fukc they don't like.

user-pic

Somehow, I can't wish that even on Michelle.

Sean Hannity, maybe . . .

user-pic

OK, didn't need that image. "Squeal like a pig, Sean!"

user-pic

I'm sure Mrs. Sanford is heartened that an ideological fellow traveler is making these kinds of excuses for her husband's terrible behavior.

user-pic

Is Rush Limbaugh still on probation? If so, and if a condition of probation was periodic, random tox screening, this might well be a good time to show up on his doorstep. "Uh, Mr. Limbaugh? If you'd kindly drop tou and aim for this here cup, we'll be on our way."

user-pic

So Sanford was just "going Galt". It all makes sense now - he went to Buenos Aires to hook up with an Argentinian Dagny Taggart.

user-pic

Ah, yes. Argentina . . . the final destination of unrepentant Confederates and Nazi war criminals.

user-pic

"I'm going to cheat on my wife--that will show Obama!"

user-pic

Wait... I know where I've heard of this kind of thinking before... Oh!! Right!!! Rush... you call it "Moral Relativism"... as in "Thinking Up Weenie Excuses and Blaming Others, No Matter What!."

And Rush.... don't you remember? You HATE moral relativism! You LOATHE moral relativism! You DETEST moral relativism! Moral relativism is for left wing commie nutjobs!

Unless, um, it's to your benefit.

user-pic

Actually, the affair story is a cover. He was down there hunting the Hitler clones manufactured by Gregory Peck. O no, wait, that was Brazil...

user-pic

As long as the Republican party continues to let crazy racist Limbaugh be the face of their party, than they will never again have a majority in this country. So rant on old fool!

user-pic

Can you believe this shit? since when does a sexual affair need a political motive. Maybe it's just that the GOP is having trouble screwing the American people so to compensate, they need to find subs, boys, women, anyone to fulfill their insatiable need for self gratification.
Limp Baugh just wishes that he could still get it up, but even the Viagara doesn't make him attractive, only makes him a grotesque dancing fat man with a raging hard on.

user-pic

Apparently, the era of personal responsibility is indeed over.

user-pic

This might sound funny, but in a twisted way Rush might be right. Let's review. Sanford told the world that South Carolina didn't want stimulus money. On behalf of South Carolina and its well above 10% unemployed he would turn the Federal government's stimulus money down. When the citizens of South Carolina heard Sanford they say "bullshit, we need the money." Sanford, sticking to something he calls principle vetoed 8 bills. All eight were overridden by the South Carolina legislature. Essentially he and his hard right conservative principles were utterly rejected. He needed a shoulder to cry on. At that point his wife knew about his Argentina honey, so her shoulder was unavailable. What is an utterly rejected man going to do? Take 5 days off to hike. No he is going to flee to his favorite soft shoulder in the world.

Of course, it isn't Obama's fault. It is Sanford's fault for not realizing that the time of Rush Limbaugh, hard right conservatism and the lamebrain dittohead base started to end in 2006 and came crashing down for good last year when the economy tanked. People are demanding solutions not slogans. Republicans are very short on actual solutions.

user-pic

What's that saying ... when you're in a hole, quit digging.

user-pic

I can't wait for his head to explode once the author of Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations finally takes his seat in the US Senate.

user-pic

His wife threw him out two weeks ago, I guess she was fed up and didn't want to fight anymore. Way to go, Barack.

user-pic

Actually (and this is a true story) it is the reason Limbaugh left NYC.

Jon Stewart covered this on his April 1, 2009 show and Huff Post covered it on March 30, 2009.

This search phrase "rush leaves nyc" at google puts those in the top three results.

Come to think of it; I wonder if the gasbag actually did sell his space and leave, or was he just gasbagging?

user-pic

Republicans just wanna have fun!*

*Cindy Lauper was just on the radio and I couldn't resist. I love Cindy

user-pic

I guess he blames Obama for his OxyContin addiction!

user-pic

That would have been Hillary's fault.

user-pic

Actually...it's Sanford's contention he went to BA to break up with Maria. So it's a reverse Galt deal; now that the Stimulus has been forced upon South Carolina, darn it, he wants to be back home!

user-pic

Listening to the press conference, I DID have a bit of a warm spot that he went to break up in person rather than over the phone or via email.

However, taking five days to break up sounds a bit strange. They cried and prayed together for FIVE DAYS!?!

user-pic

Five days of praying, huh? Right. As in ...ohgod...Ohgod...OhGod...OHGOD...

user-pic

Of course it's Obama's fault. And Obama is God's fault.

Of course, when Limbaugh wants to get laid, he flies to Bermuda with someone else's Viagra in his suitcase.

user-pic

A babe, a one way plane ticket to another hemisphere and big so long sucker for every dittohead?

Well, maybe we can do the plane ticket and the farewell.

user-pic

If Rushbo thinks it's such a good idea for Sanford to have run off, could he run off to a foreign country too then, please? Oh, and stay there!

user-pic

Don't let Texas hit you in the ass on the way out.

user-pic

He also said Sanford was their answer to JFK. Really? Sanford is charismatic and suave? If Sanford wilted dealing with Obama, how has he manage to govern? Better still, how could he be POTUS

user-pic

Limbaugh and other wackos are showing more outrage over the fact that liberals are showing joy over Sanford's affair.

Here is an article that explains how the happiness of liberals is misinterpreted. It's a good read.

http://progressnotcongress.org/?p=1939

user-pic

Boss Limbaugh, you are SO pathetic.Since MSNBC is driving you over the edge, why don't you just disappear.............................forever.

user-pic

I'm sure Sanford's wife will really appreciate hearing from Rush just how much a hindrance she was to her husband enjoying his life.
Nice tact and sensitivity there, Rush.

user-pic
On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh offered his own explanation for the Mark Sanford scandal: That Sanford flew out of the country to have an affair because President Obama drove him over the edge:

Your facts are no match for an entertainer like Rush Limbaugh.

They pay Limbaugh over $60,000 per hour to deliver just exactly this sort of 'entertainment' to millions of people across America every day.

What he really needs is another tax cut.

user-pic

For once, I'm in agreement. When Bush was president I was a sad bear and fled the country to enjoy life in Honduras with young women who never complained about my bearectile dysfunction because I had a lot of Bearagra with me on my private jet.

What?

user-pic

And Clinton was just embracing the insurgence of "Greed is Good" of the 90s.

user-pic

Sraight from "the party of personal responsibility."

user-pic

So Rush Limpball is stating that this Repubelichen was too much of a pussy to handle a Democrat? Wow, how pathetic would he have been against an ACTUAL bad guy like Kim Jong Il, or Amadickinajar?

user-pic

Sanford should have secretly gone to the Dominican Republic with a stash of Viagra and Oxycontin to consort with underage male hustlers. That would have shown his true contempt for the President.

user-pic

Rush is as adorable as Jabba the Hut can be...

user-pic

Rush's next revelation:

Obama was born in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor in is Hawaii ....

user-pic

How is it that a guy that fat, can spin so fast?

user-pic
Sraight from "the party of personal responsibility."
The thing about having high standards like personal responsibility is that sometimes they aren't reached. But better to have high standards and fail, then have low or no standards and go untested.
user-pic

"The point is," he added, "there are a lot of people whose spirit is just -- they're fed up, saying to Hell with it, I don't even want to fight this anymore, I just want to get away from it."

OK, Rush, we're just waiting for you to say this and run off to whatever sweetie will let you indulge yourself and your massive infusions of Viagra. Did you ever consider that if you stopped taking enhancing drugs your blood pressure might go down and maybe you could be a decent human being? Slim chance, I know, but, hey, it's worth a shot.
