Michael Steele On Health Care: "Do The Deal. It's Not That Complicated"

Check out this amazing line from RNC chairman Michael Steele this past Friday, via Matt Yglesias, explaining how we don't need the government to be involved in health care -- we just need get the interested people in the room and "do the deal":

STEELE: So if it's a cost problem, it's easy: Get the people in a room who have the most and the most direct impact on cost, and do the deal. Do the deal. It's not that complicated.

If it's an access question, people don't have access to health care, then figure out who they are, and give them access! Hello?! Am I missing something here? If my friend Trevor has access to health care, and I don't, why do I need to overhaul the entire system so I can get access he already has? why don't you just focus on me and get me access?

This sounds kind of like Kenan Thompson's "Fix It!" routine from Saturday Night Live last fall, explaining the solution to the financial crisis. "Take it one step at a time: Identify the problem -- fix it! Identify another problem -- fix it! Repeat as necessary until it's all fixed!"

He and Sarah Palin would make a great team.

That SNL comparison is spot on.

Uh, yeah Mike, you're definitely missing something here. In fact, I'm having trouble remember what exactly you haven't missed the past 4 months.

Yo, bro!  Howzit hangin???

If it's an access question, people don't have access to health care, then figure out who they are, and give them access!

That's exactly what the Public Option would do.  Glad to hear Mikey is on board with Obama's plan!

Maybe the DNC could use that in an ad spot. Use that Steele quote, explain that's what the "public option" is all about, and thank Steele and the RNC for being on board.

I wonder if Steele has a freezer full of money also...

lol.. that's a solution that would melt the heart of john mccain.. remember his sunni/shiite solution?

"One of the things I would do if I were President would be to sit the Shiites and the Sunnis down and say, 'Stop the bullshit,'" said Mr. McCain, according to Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi, an invitee, and two other guests.

Yet another illustration that Republicans don't do nuance. Or reality.

That's exactly the same kind of brilliant commentary I heard from a Fox News fan at work today as he held forth on the 'myth' of global warming. He had simple, common sense (as he called it) explanations for why the earth's temperature would be rising, although at other times he claims that it's not. And the most amusing part of it was that he thinks that the whole discussion of heightened carbon dioxide levels is referring to carbon dioxide that is exhaled by people and animals.

I think I've seen enough now that I can say with no uncertainty that all Republicans are complete and utter fucking imbeciles. The burden of proof is upon them to demonstrate that they're not.

Chimp,

There wouldn't be Republicans if there weren't arrogant jerks.

Say you take a three year trek through the north pole, documenting the melting cap. You come back, publish a book and Republicans will 'rebut' the book based on their incisive use of 'logic' gained through sitting in front of the TV and listening to hate speech.

user-pic

I didn't think Keenan's sketch was particularly funny. Until now.

user-pic

That's the way we roll in the intestinal tract.

user-pic

I'm not adding so much by saying it, but this *truly* is an idiotic statement by Steele. It's like, "You got brain damage? Go to the brain surgeon and have him fix the damage! How simple could it be?!"
